  • New Honda Jazz Crosstar 2020 Review. Recently I spent a week with the brand new 2020 Honda Jazz. Overall I was very impressed by Honda's new Hybrid supermini - there was just one thing that put me off. Have a watch to find out what that thing was! Also a big thank you to Jake for the help with filming.

    Hi everyone, just a quick one to say that I am wrong when I say this car has a CVT. Instead it is a fancy fixed-gear auto transmission that adds 'steps' to make it feel like its changing gear (I believe). My bad!

    • @linovieira5260
      @linovieira5260 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You were right it has a CVT they just changed the name because everybody knows they are crap

    • @ronaldwhite706
      @ronaldwhite706 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Spot on! No CVT gearbox! Electric motor driven and the gear change noise it to make you drive gently by letting you know! And as you said in the review it sounds bad when you boot it but drop the speed and it is back to a nice quiet drive! :)

    • @JUANKERR2000
      @JUANKERR2000 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@linovieira5260 No, it is not a CVT, it has a single gear ratio when the engine clutch engages. There is no ratio change as one accelerates, the noise is a sound effect.

    • @DementedDog
      @DementedDog 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JUANKERR2000 Agreed - though Honda refer to it as an eCVT, which may be causing the confusion. Nothing wrong with CVTs if you drive them properly.

      @@DementedDog Agreed nothing wrong with well-designed CVTs - Nissan take note (pun not intended) but they must be serviced by the book. Why, oh why, are they referred to as CVT transmissions?

    Excellent review, well done. I love the Jazz, just ordered an EX Style!

  •  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    This is probably the best review of the new Jazz I have seen so far (and I think I saw "all" of them). Most other reviewers are constantly bitching about the noise at full throttle acceleration (like they always drive their cars F1 style, 100% throttle, especially between traffic lights). You mention this (as it should be mentioned) but the focus is on all the right things. Great job Blee!

    Hi, greetings from Finland! This was the first time I watched your review. Absolutely well done job, thank you for that. I am interested in the new Jazz and it was possible to receive good information about the car. Special points for your natural presentation and genuine fresh approach, I quite liked it! Keep up the good work, stay healthy and keep those reviews coming up!

    Nice review. One thing that I find odd though is that the Crosstar offers a bigger sound system and at the same time lacks some of the safety features, such as the cross traffic warning,whereas the EX offers all safety features but you can't order it with the better sound system. I think that's a shame and does not make sense at all. Did you also test the sound system in the Crosstar?

    • @BleeCarswell

    I have been asked about range and fuel economy. In mainly town stop/start driving we are achieving around 450 miles per tank and average 50-52 mpg.

    One thing I hate about my Jazz Crosstar is that the road departure mitigation cannot be disabled, needing to be cancelled at each start up. I drive a lot on narrow country roads and the mitigation system constantly nags me and "corrects" the steering, other than that and the lack of full voice control for the heating/air-con that my last Honda, a Legend, had, I am very happy with the car.

    From what I've heard, the CVT is simulated. There's no actual CVT. At highway speed it's using a single gear. The "shifts" while accelerating are simulated.

    Don't floor it, won't do that with an EV (all the time), shouldn't do it with a CVT either and with this system it's the same. Learn how to drive and understand, the road is not a racetrack and cars are for transport, not toys

    Quite expensive 2 years ago ? Now it's from £25 900 / £18 985 to £28 145 / £22 635 ! It's about £6 000 to £7 000 more. The Jazz is an awesome car, but doesn't Honda play us for a sucker ? Inflation + new bumpers + new code for power increase (torques are the same). Other hybrid cars, same category are now less expensive. They might don't care about us as customers, or don't expect selling any ?

    As a postscript here... my wife drove our new Crosstar for the first time today , parked up and left the car. When she returned to the car she found that all of the car windows had inexplicably opened themselves completely. A nice little gremlin to work out a reason why for?

    This is quite an interesting car and certainly is much better than the old one. I hate automatic gearboxes these days. Most of them are jerky and I don't see why CVTs are used! They are so unrefined. More and more cars are automatic only these days and they are just horrible. I have recently taken on a Peugeot 2008 with EAT8 gearbox and it's sort of draggy. Very noticeable when it drags itself into gear!
