    You know its a good scene when you film it with a 90s cell phone through a telescope pointed at your neigbors living room tv through a screen door then upload it to youtube and it gets half a million views.

    I saw this in the theater when it first came out. I remember that I and pretty much every other person in the theater pretty much held our breath from the opening to the credits. Certain scenes brought forth gasps and bursts of nervous laughter and it was just like seeing no movie we'd ever seen before. People just couldn't believe it. People didn't walk out at the end discussing the movie or favorite lines They walked out just stunned and shaking their heads. It was that mind-blowing.

      I actually hate to say that I missed this in theaters. But when I finally saw it years later at home, this whole final scene was such an amazing tension builder. By the time he was quoting the Bible, I was up out of my seat and nearly shaking because I thought I knew what was coming next. And the "I'm trying real hard" line broke that tension instantly. It was an amazing experience.

      It’s funny you say that. Most people don’t even recognize Jackson’s character was the protagonist ( the movie started and ended with him). Part of that was because Travolta also hit it out of the park. He really enhanced his role to the degree one could consider him the lead in the movie. It’s subtle, because Jackson was so compelling that nobody could ignore that performance. It’s one of a handful of movies where both guys had a primary narrative the audience needed to follow.

    What is cool about this scene, is the Biblical metaphors. That Samuel L Jackson pays for Ringo's life with something from himself. He doesn't pay to take it but that Ringo may live, almost like a free gift, it makes Ringo realize that he is weak and is powerless and in that moment worthy of death for his crimes. He has met his maker in some ways, because the Tyranny of evil men have driven him to despair and a life of crime. And his conclusion of him being the Tyranny of evil men, is in some way a point of acknowledgement and repentance, a 180 degree turn from his ways. Brilliant writing.

    In all movies where someone pointed a gun close to somebody's face, my father went like "why doesn't he just grab it?? He'd have zero chance of reacting" etc. In all movies, except Pulp fiction. I can still hear him almost yelling "YES! That's the way it's done!" when Jules grabbed that nimrod's gun.

    • @VegetaLF7
      @VegetaLF7 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Especially for someone as skilled and lethal as a professional assassin. Ringo put the gun directly in reach of Jules' face and let himself get distracted by the case's contents, leaving the opening for Jules to snatch the gun and take control of the situation. Had Ringo stayed a couple feet back and not put his gun inches away, that move wouldn't have worked.

      I know there's a cut someone made that is entirely in chronological order, kind of like what Coppola did with an abridged version of Godfather 1 & 2 in the mid-70's; but I don't think it was produced by Tarantino or Miramax, and I don't see how it could legally have been broadcast. But...I could be wrong.
