My headcanon is that the Callisto's hesitancy to reveal his father coupled with the spell that transformed her into a monster (which prevented her from saying the real name) made Kratos realize that his father was a God, thus making him a demigod, which for the time explained a lot of his life to him. He just didn't know whose God he is a spwan of, so from that moment he started harboring a hatred for the gods in general. It was up until Athena reveals that his father is none other than Zeus, that he then finally directs his fury towards him (plus the fact that Zeus had just betrayed and killed him)
Way to mess with my brain, GoS. It is poorly done. It REALLY looks like Kratos got told he _IS_ the father or some shi. That surprised picachu face he makes got me actin' up.
It's possible that she was saying "your..... father.....is" and that Kratos's facial expression was perhaps The face of someone who's anxious to know and he was about to hear it after so many years not knowing him during his childhood but then she turned.
it is just that simple, the curse was to keep her from saying it not punish her for doing so Another standout Prequel issue is how kratos in gow1 seems to be in need of pandora's box to kill "a" god while he already did it before in acension/chains But multiple times in the cutscens kratos phrase it as "pandora's box will help him kill ares" As in he needs the box to kill ares specifically since he is stronger than any god he faced before The issue is when he slaps that "a" god from time to time "Ares" and/or "the god of war" couldve worked way better imo
I'd say that Zeus' Gauntlet and the primordial fire(the one you find in Caves of Olympus) in Chains of Olympus can be considered a similar "mortal to god" upgrade as Pandora's box.
@Merphin Sky that's not just the problem, the fact that in gow1 they say that's the first time a god has been killed. so I guess Persephone wasn't a god? oh wait a minute she's a goddess, that's okay then no issues. No GoW chains defending here.
True, All this time I've always thought the same. The fact that Kratos eyes go wide is probably because she said that your father is a Olympian God, which can definitely trigger Kratos curiosity but there is when the curse activate. Cause as we know now they are many gods in the GOW universe so naming a specific group is important. If she said a God it can be an Egyptian god, aesir or vaniher god or even Hindu god. But precisely saying Olympian will directly get Kratos attention
Man, thank you, really. It was one of those plot holes in the series that was left to me to decide, what exactly i believe is happened here. And i thought it was Callisto, not only because of the whispering, that could be hidden (maybe for plot reasons, to hide the reveal for the players who's going in chronological order until Athena's scene, idk, i didn't think too much about it) "Zeus", but also because of Kratos' reaction (eyes wide open, anger towards the gods afterwards). I even thought, she only managed to said something like "God of Olympus..." before turning, so Kratos knows it's one of the Gods, but don't know who's exactly. Probably he could've figure out he's a demi-god even without it (or did he believed, he's so overpowered due to Spartan training alone?), but now he has a real confirmation and a real reason to hate at least one God, who is his father and who's cursed Callisto. And even watching this video i thought "well, why did he got shocked, if she didn't said anything". But then you said, he opened his eyes like that in ANTICIPATION to actually hear the name of his father, and i was like: 🤯. How did i never thought in this way.
Watch the bonus cutsceens in the Treasures in GOW 2005. The screen with his mother is a reference to one of the bonus movies in the extras from the 1st game. Technically, that seen was set before GOW 2 was even released, they just adapted it for GOW:GOS
@@MidChronicler I wouldn't really say they're non-canon as much as not really fully realized yet. A lot of the general story beats remain the same in GOW:GOS. It was the first game, peaces were still falling into place, Hades was an open-mouth fire demon with horns. By your logic, Does that mean Hades was non-canon in 2005? Look, narrativlly speaking, I actually do want to believe your theory is true. It would make the most sense story wise. Just wanted to point out that the Devs of GOS actually drew inspiration from the 1st game in the franchise. However, I do think they're at fault for not tweaking it slightly to fit the content of the games after. I think there are plenty of good arguments you could make for ether side.
@@norggongadorg7498 they are officially non-canon. Cory said outright that he changed the mother twist to the Athena twist because he wanted to in the gow2 documentary. What about the Cronos helicopter scene? It's literally impossible because canonically, he was moved to Tartarus. They're just fun secret scenes that were all retconned later. We can't rely on them at all.
Kallisto could've tried saying the name and because she tried to, she turned into the beast Kratos had to kill. Kratos knew it was an Olympian and Athena confirmed it.
I can agree with the idea that Kratos mom tried to whisper who his real father is but the curse Zeus put on her triggered before she could finish her sentence. Thus why Kratos rationalized he had no father that does explain why he didn't bring up his up in later games in chronological order in terms of canon.
It’s possible Kratos could have been in denial after his mother told him and his reaction to Athena could have been him being forced to accept the truth, and that would make a better reason for him to get piss off at the revelation. Although while I think that works better for him being enrage after Athena told him he’s son of Zeus, I think him being told his father is God and then being left wondering who, while the gods of Olympus estranged themselves from him would add a level of believability to his actions in GOW 2 novelisation and GOW 2. Finding out you’re a demigod and after they force you to take the job of the god who killed your family while not holding up their deal, and after all that, they then treat you like a plague.
I didn't even watched the video yet, but i assume that Kratos discovered that Zeus is his father at the end of GOW 2. And i have just the right evidence: -Callisto was cursed and she did not had the time to say his name. She was cursed to prevent her to say the name, not in case she said it as punishment. Kratos seemed shocked maybe because of his mother dying breaths (?) -Also, in GOWGOS, the grave digger, known as Zeus in disguise, never showed up to Kratos in his true form. -Oh, and Athena did not call Kratos "brother" face to face once. She only said "forgive me, brother" at the end, after Kratos was already gone; -all of these events implying that they wanted to keep their "relationship" or "identity" with Kratos hidden, as he did not knew at that time that The Grave Digger was his papa and that Athena was his big sis. Man, gotta love the lore in this game. Aight, back to watching the video.
Unless the comics somehow take place after Ghost of Sparta? I never did find out which comes first. Also, I didn't finish watching the video yet, so for all I know, he didn't really find out in GoS, and if that's the case, you might be right... or perhaps even Kratos assumed Gyges meant "a son of Zeus" in the same way all mortals are "children of Zeus" simply because they worship him as their version of a "All-father". It's a stretch, but there's many ways you can spin an inconsistency such as this one.
Or it's either a plot hole, or he means it in the way that the children of Olympus are the "children" of Zeus too, or that Zeus had way too many children, but clearly, he means that Kratos is his son
first of all everything is canon, novels, comics, instrn manual, artbooks. If the games contradict it then games just take preference, also here isn't a 100% contradiction.
