A lot of people are talking about what happens when the pool needs to come up and cost and time. This is my experience as I did the same thing about 7 years ago. My Intex pool is still alive and well, although in my neighbors yard. I took a few precautions with the old pool like having the frame sprayed and clear coated on the inside by a car body shop. The initial setup was 3500 dollars with the dig and the deck. Everything was Torx screwed, for easy removal. I bought the new XTR earlier this year. The inner pipes are already powdered coated. Hired two guys to unscrew the deck, remove pool, make sure everything was still level, setup new pool, screw deck back in place. They charged for 16 hrs of labor. Really only took them a day and a half. New pool 1550 plus the 750 in labor. If the new pool lasts at long as the other one, I am only out about 6 grand for 14 years of pool. So even if I replace the pool every 5 years far cry from what I was quoted for an inground pool that would need a new liner at the 25 or 30 year mark.

exactly, im doing the same thing currently with a smaller model and my all in costs will be around $5,000 , a inground pool same size was quoted at $32,000... i can buy the replacment liners from intex for $250.00 and they have parts for their pools going back 10+ years, on top of that i feel replacing the liner due to wear will never happen as the pool is shaded from UV light on the entire outside so the breakdown of the vinyl from the sun will not be a factor either, dont cheap out and buy anything other than the INTEX ULTRA XTR - and it will last 10+ years easy
I am thinking going this way, so long as you make space, replacing would not be a major headache. Just look at the $$$$$ saving, if you changed this pool every three years you will still be way ahead of a permanent build. Also the site can be repurposed easily if you no longer required the pool. That would be a difficult pill to swallow if you had shelled out 40k on a pool.
Very Nice finish, my only concern would be the pump motor not having any air circulation, I would think over time it will burn out for that reason. Other than that, it's a nice finish , well done. Enjoy.
Our soil is poor draining, we would have to have drainage around the pool or it would fill with water, but it looks good. Much cheaper than a real inground pool.
The pool has an automatic sump pump. It can be plumbed to pump the water through a number of sprinklers in the area so you don't have to worry about pumped out water pooling in one area.

Looks awesome. I'd love to see an update on how well the "wall" underground has held up. If I'm correct, he used decking boards with 6x6 every 8'. Seems like a awful long span on such a thin board. Any cave ins?

@@LightWatersLLC The drains are usually away from the house and in some instances, there are multiple pop up sprinklers in the yard tied to the sump outlet to disperse the pumped out water. Using the gallons per minute of the sump pump and the gallons per minute of the sprinkler heads, it is easy enough to determine the number of heads required.

I am not sure about your location, but over here in South Carolina, we usually just keep the pool filtration systems going as usual. Not much cost and a lot less effort in the spring.

You seem to know how to build, you maybe should have just built a pool with better materials to last as long as your retaining walls and deck. It is about a foot or so from the 6 x 6 to the pool edge. Nothing pulls the pool poles back. The deck sits just above the top of the pool. Nothing on the pool touches the retaining wall or the deck structure.

That pool is not designed to be dug in so the structure will probably suffer from the exterior moisture, the soil may move due to moisture build up and pressure making the system unstable ... etc ; All problems will probably relate to moisture some way or another. That said , you should get a couple a years out of it because you have obviously done a great job and fair play it's a good idea. It will be interesting to see the installation in a couple of years for reference. Take care.
It depends on what precautions he took, if any. I had an Intex pool that's still in service after 9 years. It's in my neighbor back yard right now. I did however have the frame inside clear coated by a car painter, so never had any problem with the frame. If this is the newer XTR model, which I bought earlier this year. He should be good. They finally powder coated the Inside of the frame. I don't have the outside fence, but hiring two people to remove the decking (use screws not nails) take out the pool and set up the new pool, and screw back down decking cost me 650 buck for about 16hrs of work. So even if he has to do it every 5 years with a 1500 hundred dollar pool he will come out in top.
If it rips in the ground at least you don't get a flood. But its easy enough to replace the pool still. Just take up the deck boards closest to the pool so you can get down there to remove the pool and install another the same size. Then put them back.

A buddy of mine used to work at an excavating company and he said that he used to fill in 3 to 5 pools a year when people got tired of taking care of their pools. I have seen many of these pools last well over 7 years. It is designed to be drained, removed and replace with a new one with no modification to the deck and retaining wall.
The total cost, including the pool, filters, deck, salt system, automatic sump pump was around $7,000. A friend contracted me to help him. So his labor was not accounted for.

BIGWOOD3160 it was $7K, as I saw in another video owner posted. Pool, wood, excavation, labor..... 1/5 of the price of a simple in- ground pool. I think it’s amazing and not out as much money or in debt nearly as long!
I've had that same pool for five years. I live in the north east been through five winters. It's still in same working condition as new. Great idea and excellent job bringing it all together.
You had the equipment, labor and knowledge yet you cheaped out on the pool. could've gone with a fiberglass drop in. What you did will be a maintenance nightmare, not to mention the critter infestation below your deck.
Intex 16x32 pool, $2500. Fiberglass drop in 16x32, $20,000+. Equipment, labor and knowledge are great as long as you have deep enough pockets to fund the rest.

Seeing people take these "soft" material pools and putting them below ground permanently/semi permanently. If one has the money labor and knowledge, they go for something with FAR MORE permanence and less maintenance in the long run or dont bother at all.
It is relatively easy to remove the old liner and replace it. Drain the pool, fold it in on its self, remove pipe along top and replace liner and reverse those steps and there you go.
If you can get 5 years out of it then replace it, you are saving a lot of money. Just inspect the poles occasionally for strength, just once a year is probably ok.

I'll see if I can get you an updated picture of the retaining wall. The wall was 2 x 6 and the post were about 84 inches apart.

The structure is free standing. It stands about 2 inches above the pool edge. It also overlaps the pool edge by 3 inches.

Just take up the deck boards closest to the pool so you can get down there to remove the pool and install another the same size. Then put them back.
To install a new liner, remove corner metal corners of pool, fold pool inward on itself, take the liner out, install new liner.

This is a mid sized excavator. It is eight feet wide so it will go in some pretty tight places.
