MLB 10: The Show was a Masterpiece

  • MLB 10: The Show was a special game. Critics unanimously praised it upon release, with some going as far as calling it the absolute pinnacle of baseball gaming, and a video game worth learning a new sport for, if you weren’t already familiar with baseball. It really was that good. It was baseball perfection.

I loved this game SO MUCH bro. Like just going on road to the show and playing game after game after game after game after game was SO MUCH FUN for me. I could just sit and do this in the summer FOR HOURS. Like idk how to explain it. It like was really lowkey chill and boring, but in a good really fun way. It really felt like I was experiencing how it felt to be a real life major leaguer and play like a bunch of games day to day to day in the summer. I’ll never forget the nostalgia of waking up at like 10 in the morning in June, going straight downstairs, turning on my ps3 and playing like 25 Road to the Show games in the span of like 4 hours and feeling so content with my life.

I don't remember which Show it was, but I remember a game was in extra innings, and after an out in the middle of one of them, Matt Vasgersian was telling the "viewers" that because the game was going past it's normal length, a random cooking show would not be seen today.

I threw a triple play in this game. The best play I’ve ever made. I was 9 or 10 and I was playing as the Phillies (my favorite team) against the Nationals in franchise. When I made that play I was so fucking hyped, shocked, and of course fucking happy cuz I just made the best play of my life. Here’s the kicker, Nyjer Morgan was the one running to first base and he was out but probably less than a second it was soooooo close. God I love this game left me with nothing but great memories. One thing this game had that the new ones don't were player ejection and bench warnings. If you threw a fastball at a players head both teams were warned and if u did it again you'd be ejected. Now that's how online players intentionally walk ppl. Just throw at their head. There would also be human error elements. You could be called out at first but if you look at the replay you were actually safe. Just made everything feel more realistic.

I don’t think the game has a micro transaction issue. If you are good at the game you will be fine no matter what your team is looking like. Even if you do spend money on the game, stubs and good cards cost too much for it to make much of an impact. They also hand out 99s pretty much so you can get a stacked team pretty easily

Still amazes me how beautiful the older MLBTS games looked in comparison to the time they were released.
The fact that a game from 2009 got face appearances more accurate than games almost 15 years in the future is sad.
That’s not even including how much they stripped away at the franchise features over the years. They hyped up the fact they added the MLB draft, but this game went so in depth they been had the rule 5 draft. It’s such a shame to see the decline of the series.

About the MLB license it was MLB itself that decided to get rid of 2K baseball bc 13 sucked so much. 10-13 are all pretty damn similar. Franchise peaked in the 10-13 era BUT actually playing and it suffers from some issues where the AI teams operate pretty similarly in the long run spending a ton for lengthy contracts for older guys. Gameplay is not scripted like a lot of folks will have you believe. RTTS was the mark of these games up until 2020 imo. The addition of ball physics has added to the game exponentially from 17 through current day. I like the idea of ticket prices but I can prove that they don't matter a ton to how your team operates.

I feel like sports games have hit ceiling in terms of progression. Like what else is there realistically that needs to be upgraded in terms of basic game play mechanics? Using MLB the Show as an example, pitching has multiple pitch types and different ways that you can pitch(meters and analog). Fielders can move in 360 degree directions with additional sliding/diving functions. Hitters have different ways of hitting/running. The bulk of this was achieved back in the mid 2000's along with EA/2K games compared to games from the 90's At this point development teams are just fine tuning the offensive and defensive aspects on the human and ai sides. Other than that its just cosmetic bells and whistles from player likeness/uniforms to the game modes. Correct me if I'm wrong but there is no real technological barrier that need to be broken that evolves the game to the next step. I think this is why sports games are stuck in the whole "nothing but a roster update" rut.

They need collision detection the uniforms need wind detection. The atmosphere needs to be upgraded and spanish commentary like in soccer games

Never heard about MLB The Show until 16. Now it just seems like Maddien games for the past 15 years. New or half ass coat of paint not much changed or old stuff taken out only to be added back in years later.

Almost every years version of MLB is excellent, even in years that it’s just considered a good game for that year, they’re the pinnacle of sport sims, I wish every sports game had the kind of polish & realisms as MLB the show is every year

It’s almost as if having competition makes EVERYONE BETTER AND ULTIMATELY THE CONSUMER WINS. I guess that’s why EA decided it was just easier to create a MONOPOLY instead of ACTUALLY TRYING TO MAKE A QUALITY PRODUCT PEOPLE WANTED TO PURCHASE!!

I've been playing this through RSPC3 for the last month and a half and am having so much fun.
The only performance issue I have is some stadiums drop my fps to about 45-55fps. But it is still playable. I have an Outfielder RTTS character who just got called up to the majors and I'm doing a Texas Rangers franchise rebuild. Everything in the game still feels so smooth and all the little details this game offers makes it so much better.

I personally like the show 19 better than 16. How you perform in games on RTTS depends on how your player progresses. In 2016, I’m pretty sure you still gained points and had to move the sliders yourself. 19 feels more immersive.

Nah. Show still great. I'm good with the new announcers as Vasgergin (sp?) was very stale. I've been playing The Show since 08. At this point I'm not sure what can be done with sports games? Hell when I was a kid to see a baseball actually have stitches and rotate was amazing. But we're so far past that kind of improvement. I will say they've absolutely left RTTS for dead. That's the mode they can and should've massively improved. Show 23 is still the best sports game even with this year's seemingly lack of power.
