This game only gets remembered fondly because it was out during quarantine so everyone was playing it all day long… X factors and abilities were cool at first until you realize how broken they were and still are
This is arguably one of the worst games in the series because: A: It came after they went to the Frostbite engine. And B: The minor improvements that have occurred in the last three games hadn’t happened yet. I’d say it could be better than Madden 19, but that’s about it.
I remember playing this game before Covid and enjoyed it tbh. During the NFL season I played that and Spider-Man. Then around December onwards it was NBA 2K20. Madden 21 through was trash imo tho.
I liked Madden 20 back then cause it was the first thing brought me in contact with football(I'm from Europe so football is not really popular here) . When I found you're channel I thought it cant be that bad. So I started playing NFL 2k 05, Madden 08 and Ncaa 14 and realized you where right. Today I can't imagen that I liked that game,but due to the fact it brought me to the Sport I now love and play it has a special place in my heart.
I think what makes Madden 20 special was because everyone was playing it during quarantine. It was during Covid where everyone was staying in and playing online. I played Madden 20 more than any other game and the soundtrack gives me nostalgia now.
The sad thing is that for all the criticism of 2K NBA games for holding players hostage money wise, (and rightfully so especially in MyPlayer) at least the gameplay is realistic and worthy of being called simulation
Literally playing 2k right now and seeing how pay to win myplayer is. I swear it used to be at least fair a few years ago and now it's a flat out grind. And important skills like midrange shooting are ridiculous. I think it would be 250k to bring my guy up to 83 on mid range and that's like 40 bucks. That being said, the gameplay is still very realistic and fluid. When I play against the warriors curry plays just like curry. It sucks they're exploiting the player, but madden doesn't even have a solid framework

Playing Madden 25 on RPCS3 while watching this, and I literally just had something I've never seen happen in modern Madden happen. My QB threw an inaccurate pass, and a receiver running a different route happened to be close to the ball.. And he caught it. I'm pretty sure in modern Madden it just bonks them on the helmet
This is the game where a Madden championship was won with a punter at QB and only running the ball. The last time I played this game was an Eagles Franchise, but I remember prior to then I lost an exhibition match to a potential game-winning touchdown being ruled out of bounds even with challenge.

One thing I always hated about modern Madden (besides everything else) was how every player looks like they're built on the exact same frame as one another. I mean pardon me for wanting a Wide Receiver, Linebacker, and Left Tackle to have different body types. In any case, still a banger video as usual.
I bought’22 on clearance because the last one I played was ‘19 and I haven’t even played 1 quarter yet because I have better games that are holding up my interest. I even fired up 2K5 on my OG Xbox today and played and had a blast! 😊
Never stop making these videos, people need to keep being reminded how EA keeps letting everyone down with these Madden games, I still continue to play Madden NFL 07, ESPN NFL 2K4/5 on my PS2/PCSX2, and I don't think I will ever go to a new Madden ever again, last one I got was this Madden-I picked it up for $5 at a local game store, I turned it back in and was able to use that $5 for a copy of ESPN NFL Football (2K4) at same local game store...crazy that these PS2 era games are still better than new Maddens after 3 console jumps, PS2 to PS3 to PS4 and now to the PS5, it is really sickening that people still defend EA, again keep up the great work SDTV
Madden 20 was the first Madden I bought day one in 7 years or more. I fell for the hype, my friends sold me on it, the little CFB mode sounded amazing, I had a job so I figured lets buy it day one. I played it for 4 days and thought about returning it to only get half my money back. I couldnt believe how much it sucked, I was blown away. As a kid I loved the older 360 maddens and like I said I fell for the hype. I played it for four days and didnt play it ever again, and since I have not even thought about playing a new madden other then when I got Madden 23 for free last week through EA play, played for an hour and realized even paying 0 dollars for that game was too much money. Joke of a franchise now and I'm glad you are doing videos dunking on them.
I remember a few months before COVID I said very nicely that this game was bad on my show. I suggested to play Madden 2003, 2004, and 2005 instead. You know a game series is shit when games on the 2600 beat its brains out
The play that made me hate tackling animations was when I did a fake fg and there was a hole open so I ran threw it but my player started running more towards the left into a tackle even when I tried going to the right

This was my last madden I played all year. Played a little bit of 21 then i gave up completely. I then sold all my owned madden games from m17 through 21. I will never play madden again until a new developer rises.
I'm not a huge sports fan, but I do love all of your insightful videos. These days, when you can easily play the old PS2 games on a laptop or even on your phone, who needs the new Maddens? Just get one of the old games where your favorite team had a good season, and have fun once again- with all the modes you've praised back in the game....like they were never dropped! :)
the issue is that the people who want madden 20 gameplay back are the ones who want it back bc it made ultimate team more arcade-like. the leaping linebackers and completely busted x factors made it fun for them. madden won't be realistic. likely ever but bare minimum until a competitor forces their hand. fingers crossed maximum or 2k can be that challenge, personally

This game was absolutely horrible but I have good memories from my own simplicity. I was in college and on a big time grind at the time and only had like 30 mins a day to myself in my room to play video games. I’d play like one or two quick games of a mycareer with a QB. Did a full 15 seasons with him and had a great time. But the game is bad
What’s so crazy is that today…I was looking through my old games on ps5 and when I found madden 20…somehow I put 850 hours into madden 20…I was thinking to myself what tf I was doing putting 850 hours in madden 20?! Good times
@@jamiie78 That's what I noticed from this video. It's all "this thing is bad!" and "that thing sucks!" Madden 20 was my second Madden game after 19, so you could say I was born into modern Madden. I still play 20 to this day. You can genuinely have a good time and enjoy playing the GAME. I feel like that's what people are missing. It's a GAME. People think back fondly on 20 because we didn't care. The world outside was shit, but the game was FUN. That's all that mattered then, and that's what matters to me now.
@Floating Cabal I can confidently say this is the worst Madden and maybe 2K soundtrack I've ever listened to. I at least enjoy a couple of songs in 22 and 23, 20 is all obnoxious rap with 0 flow in sight. Nothing in this even compares to N95 or Ambessel.
I got this game because it was my first modern Madden game. The only other one I had was Madden 06 for the GameCube. I had my fun with it in the beginning, but once I started seeing the issues, I came to regret buying it. Never bought another new Madden since.
Playing this now for the plat and I’m laughing my way through it. If it wasn’t for the GameStop $5 monthly credit to ‘buy’ this game for $5 then I’d be more pissed about the years-on issues this game can’t shake.
I have never rage quit a game where I will never play it again until I got my hands on this game. I was doing the mycareer aspect of this game and after my 4th season, I didn't resign with my team or choose one of the 5 teams that offered me contracts during the offseason because I thought I'd be able to have more options after a certain week. I did not. It legitimately forced me to retire without warning. 4 seasons and my career was over. No warning, and no chance to continue.
@@nicocollins4101 I'd say same if i hadn't had very similar things happen to me. Not just in 20, but also in 21 and 22 and even 23. I'd make a QB who by his fourth year was a 99 overall with the Jets (after being forced to ONLY be drafted there as a QB), win 3 or 4 rings in that time with the same number of MVPs, amazing stats, literally everything you could ask for. And I decided to not resign with the Jets because I want to play on a different team. But what do ya know, a 25 year old, 99 ovr QB with 4 rings, 4 mvps and amazing stats did not get a single contract offer from ANY other team and was forced to retire. I don't know what world that happens in, but I guarantee teams would be flocking that guy with contract offers irl or any decently made simulation football game.

X-factors will end up being maddens downfall. I hate how in MUT now it’s not based on numbers or overall it’s based on abilities so a 95 with better abilities will play better than 99 overall. Miss the older days of madden
11:40 That's such a good point. I used to play sports games ONLY when growing up. In high school I started playing Fallout: New Vegas and was impressed with the detail and choice. Then I made the mistake of playing NHL 18 expecting the same level of depth. Not even close and that's why I barely play sports games released after 2012
the NFL didnt care about how their brand looked in 2005, they wanted to make the most amount of money, the price for an exclusive license is more than double that of an in-exclusive license

Years ago I use to be astonished by the lack of quality in FIFA games and this was in the mid-2000s, same with Madden even their PS2 versions were far inferior to 2k. EA has been making trash forever, its just that they have gotten worst/better? at it.
Great video 💯 The leaping linebackers have been a problem since the PS3 era Madden's ball trajectory is too low in a lot of Madden games. Linebackers will leap 10 feet in the air to pick you off. The last great Madden game to me was Madden 2005.
You know this is a failed franchise when the world winner of the Madden tournament is someone who literally had a punter as QB and used offensive tackles as WRs to win. This game is insanely broken.

One of my memories of this was their MUT mode lacked 99 overall cards for good players, and all they gave it to was players who were hurt all year or theme diamonds

Did the same with their soccer game FIFA 22, bought it played twice and deleted from my pc. Never played it again! I've played EA games for two decades and they have always been sub-par experiences.
long time subscriber here. I really wish you would do more on this channel than cover Madden and NBA. For example: You must've really hated MLB and baseball videogames (besides the vastly overrated MVP), while growing up. All the past MLB The Show vidgame titles continue to go unrecognized..
I remembered that Eric Dickerson's 94 NFL 100 dominated with that broken Freight Train 100 X-Factor. Until they had to nerf it in February before his Ultimate Legend came out. Only for someone to make a golden ticket for Bo Jackson and Michael Vick, not knowing they would get another 99 in Ultimate Legends.

Major problems I can think off: Running was Op and the abilities Corner routes Bazooka A glitch with one of the dead-eye ability where if you left go off the running trigger while throwing it’ll let you have running dead eye WR op abilities and X-factors (double me and Moss lmaooo)
I’m happy you made this cus I was just scrolling thru your vids tryna find if you made a one on madden 20. In my honest opinion(since playing madden 99-20) madden 20 is by far the last ALRIGHT madden. Once EA included X-factor I was completely done with madden. Haven’t bought madden since!!
I have no plans to get Madden NFL 20-23 anytime soon. I'll stick to Madden NFL 2002-08 on the original Xbox. Christ, even Madden NFL 10-14 were better than Madden NFL 20.
When entering the PS4 & XBOX ONE era of sports video games, you're lucky enough to find those that are at least decent & worth replaying again on PS5 & Xbox Series X. While wrestling fans were luckier with WWE 2K16 & WWE 2K19 as well as NBA 2K16 for basketball fans, American football & soccer fans were forced to accept bad sports games year after year with barely any improvement. Not sure about the quality of MLB The Show series every year though.
For me, Madden 19 was the wake-up call that Madden wasn't going to get better and progressively get worse or stale. Madden 20 just put the nail in the coffin for those doubts, and EA was going to keep riding off the name of Madden to make money off of
Only reason I loved madden 19 was because it was my first next gen madden ever. Before that I had a ps2 with Madden 08 and NFL2K 5. The amazement of seeing the jump in graphics and visuals clouded the lack of depth and polish compared to other titles my little brain couldn't comprehend.

As someone who love simulation football, I like how arcadey madden was, superstar KO was really fun

I was doing the mycareer aspect of this game and after my 4th season, I didn't resign with my team or choose one of the 5 teams that offered me contracts during the offseason because I thought I'd be able to have more options after a certain week. I did not. It legitimately forced me to retire without warning. 4 seasons and my career was over. No warning, and no chance to continue.

@@nicocollins4101 I'd say same if i hadn't had very similar things happen to me. Not just in 20, but also in 21 and 22 and even 23. I'd make a QB who by his fourth year was a 99 overall with the Jets (after being forced to ONLY be drafted there as a QB), win 3 or 4 rings in that time with the same number of MVPs, amazing stats, literally everything you could ask for. And I decided to not resign with the Jets because I want to play on a different team. But what do ya know, a 25 year old, 99 ovr QB with 4 rings, 4 mvps and amazing stats did not get a single contract offer from ANY other team and was forced to retire. I don't know what world that happens in, but I guarantee teams would be flocking that guy with contract offers irl or any decently made simulation football game.

X-factors will end up being maddens downfall. I hate how in MUT now it’s not based on numbers or overall it’s based on abilities so a 95 with better abilities will play better than 99 overall. Miss the older days of madden

11:40 That's such a good point. I used to play sports games ONLY when growing up. In high school I started playing Fallout: New Vegas and was impressed with the detail and choice. Then I made the mistake of playing NHL 18 expecting the same level of depth. Not even close and that's why I barely play sports games released after 2012
You def buggin about the soundtracks, Madden 20 soundtracks were amazing
the NFL didnt care about how their brand looked in 2005, they wanted to make the most amount of money, the price for an exclusive license is more than double that of an in-exclusive license

Years ago I use to be astonished by the lack of quality in FIFA games and this was in the mid-2000s, same with Madden even their PS2 versions were far inferior to 2k. EA has been making trash forever, its just that they have gotten worst/better? at it.

Great video 💯 The leaping linebackers have been a problem since the PS3 era Madden's ball trajectory is too low in a lot of Madden games. Linebackers will leap 10 feet in the air to pick you off. The last great Madden game to me was Madden 2005.
You know this is a failed franchise when the world winner of the Madden tournament is someone who literally had a punter as QB and used offensive tackles as WRs to win. This game is insanely broken.

I remember I bought this game at launch, played it for maybe two weeks, ejected the disc, put it back in the case, and haven't dusted it off since...haven't even touched a Madden game since 20
Did the same with their soccer game FIFA 22, bought it played twice and deleted from my pc. Never played it again! I've played EA games for two decades and they have always been sub-par experiences.

long time subscriber here. I really wish you would do more on this channel than cover Madden and NBA. For example: You must've really hated MLB and baseball videogames (besides the vastly overrated MVP), while growing up. All the past MLB The Show vidgame titles continue to go unrecognized..

I remembered that Eric Dickerson's 94 NFL 100 dominated with that broken Freight Train 100 X-Factor.
Until they had to nerf it in February before his Ultimate Legend came out.
Only for someone to make a golden ticket for Bo Jackson and Michael Vick, not knowing they would get another 99 in Ultimate Legends.

People ride this game sideways just because it’s the Covid-19 madden and it had the “super sexy superstar ko” which was the buggiest most over rated thing ever.
ngl next to madden 17 20 might be one of my favorite from that gen especially now that im on pc with mods hopefully with 24 most likely being next gen i can finally upgrade
Major problems I can think off:
Running was Op and the abilities
Corner routes
Bazooka
A glitch with one of the dead-eye ability where if you left go off the running trigger while throwing it’ll let you have running dead eye
WR op abilities and X-factors (double me and Moss lmaooo)

I have no plans to get Madden NFL 20-23 anytime soon. I'll stick to Madden NFL 2002-08 on the original Xbox. Christ, even Madden NFL 10-14 were better than Madden NFL 20.

When entering the PS4 & XBOX ONE era of sports video games, you're lucky enough to find those that are at least decent & worth replaying again on PS5 & Xbox Series X. While wrestling fans were luckier with WWE 2K16 & WWE 2K19 as well as NBA 2K16 for basketball fans, American football & soccer fans were forced to accept bad sports games year after year with barely any improvement. Not sure about the quality of MLB The Show series every year though.

Madden 12 was the last one I really enjoyed. Once the jump to ps4 happened I no longer liked the franchise.
For me, Madden 19 was the wake-up call that Madden wasn't going to get better and progressively get worse or stale. Madden 20 just put the nail in the coffin for those doubts, and EA was going to keep riding off the name of Madden to make money off of
Only reason I loved madden 19 was because it was my first next gen madden ever. Before that I had a ps2 with Madden 08 and NFL2K 5. The amazement of seeing the jump in graphics and visuals clouded the lack of depth and polish compared to other titles my little brain couldn't comprehend.
