    That singer, Ronnie James Dio, his band before this was named Rainbow, with the guitarist of the classic band Deep Purple. I recommend either “Stargazer“ and its thematically/lyrically linked follow-up song “Light in the Black“, or “Gates of Babylon” from them.
    Deep Purple too if you haven’t heard them yet. From them I would say “Child in Time“, either the live or studio version, or “Highway Star“, live version from the *Made in Japan* album

    The first Black Sabbath song you listened to ('War Pigs') had Ozzy Osborne at lead vocals. This song ('Heaven and Hell'), has Ronnie James Dio at lead vocals. Both had great solo careers after leaving Black Sabbath. You should check out some Dio songs when you get a chance. I consider Dio one of the top 5 metal singers of the 80's. Dio's 'Holy Diver', 'Rainbow In The Dark', 'Dont Talk to Strangers', 'Last In Line' are a good place to start.

      Just curious....who would be the other four? You said metal, so I’m thinking David Lee Roth would NOT be on your list? Or would you classify Van Halen as metal? Personally, I think of Sabbath and Van Halen as hard rock, because the term “metal” wasn’t really used back in the seventies, and Sabbath started in the seventies so I think of them that way. Not disagreeing with you.....just curious...

    • @allisterfiend_2112
      @allisterfiend_2112 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@w.geoffreyspaulding6588 Hello Geoffrey, I was thinking more in 80's metal terms, 70's for me would be a whole different list (probably a lot tougher for me as they had soooo many great vocalist in that era. so you are correct, David Lee Roth would not be on this list of mine. (though I think he one of the best front men of the rock genre). These list are my opinion so I'm sure others will disagree with me. Geoff Tate of Queensryche is my number one pick for best metal vocalist of 80's metal. of course Rob Halford of Judas Priest is up there along with Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden and David Coverdale of WhiteSnake. Like I said, this is just my opinion and even though they have tons more great vocalist from 80's metal, that is my top five.

    Because of Dio's complete influence over the resulting sound, I always have a hard time really slotting this as a Black Sabbath album. It sounds like a lot of Dio's solo work to me. The band itself really came to play and stepped up to it though, and Ronnie is great as always. It worked out very well.

    I remember wanting to go to a Ronnie James Dio Holy Diver concert because Dokken opening for them. I was disappointed because I couldn't go because I couldn't afford it. Also when I was on the phone my mother told me my father was coming to pick me up to go home for Thanksgiving. I hung up the phone disappointed. I heard a song by Ronnie James Dio and thought just maybe it was a give away. I picked up the phone and called the radio station. I was the fourth caller and I won tickets to the concert and a Holy Diver tape. It was exciting. I right away called my parents. And they thought I was lying, but said they would pick me up later after the concert. I always think of that when I hear Ronnie James Dio singing.

    DIO had a song called LAST IN LINE that you oughta check out. Not a priority by any means, though. Thing is, there are so many rock/pop songs you need to be exposed to it makes me draw a complete and utter blank. But that's just me being eager. Wait... Try STRANGLEHOLD by TED NUGENT. It's pretty groovy and contains the bestest guitar solo in hard rock history. In my opinion, anyway.`
