Saffron is a costly spice crop. Iran, India, Afghanistan, Italy, France, New Zealand, Pennsylvania, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Morocco, Turkey, and some regions of China are among the nations that grow the saffron crocus. Since this plant is grown worldwide, planting methods for saffron production may also vary based on local climate, soil type, depth of planting, and corm spacing.
In the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, saffron is grown in Pampore, Srinagar, and Kishtwar. IHBT estimates that India needs 100 tonnes of saffron annually, but only 6.46 tonnes are produced on 2,825 acres. Due to its demand, people's interest in saffron farming is increased.
