    For an adult beginning skater, even a recreational one, it pays to invest in good boots and buy the blades separately. I skated for a while in the 1980s and I bought really solid boots and good blades with good edges that were attached to the boot for my feet, because I tend to pronate. Maybe little kids can go with cheap skates, but for adults? Spend the money and do it right. It's much easier to skate with edges than on a flat blade!

    • @Diana-kk6qz
      @Diana-kk6qz 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I get that you wrote this without and confusion but I’m still so confused as someone who has no clue about ice skating. I wanted to ask for details. So you buy the boots by themself without blades? Do they come with the blades already or can you ask for without? Where do you buy the separate blades?? Or the boots themselves??

    • @blazereho811
      @blazereho811 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Do you recommend any specific brands or have any additional advice? Yesterday was literally the first time I’ve ever skated in my life (I’ve rollerbladed, which is kinda similar just without the resistance from the ice skates) and it was only for an hour yet I felt like I was sooo good at it. I rarely feel like that and my boyfriend said he’s never seen anyone do that well before and that I should do lessons, and of course I already felt great and had so much fun, so that just made me feel like I should definitely learn how to skate lol. I have literally no clue anything about ice skating since I’m from New Orleans.

      @@Diana-kk6qz A good skate shop will sell boots and blades separately, though some decent skates come with blades attached. My boots were Riedells and they were as stiff as a corpse. I think my blades were called "Pattern 99" if I recall. I think I bought the blades used from my skating instructor and h ad them sharpened (sharp blades are a must). Now this was back in the late 1980s and the whole thing set me back around $350 back then, so just be aware.

    • @rawsunnata829

      Which boots and which blades do you recommend?

    • @maouimaisnon2535
      @maouimaisnon2535 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rawsunnata829 for absolute beginners Jackson mystiques and riedells are a good choice. Edea motivo/waves can be a good skate too but it depends on the width of your foot. But as edeas are very particular skates I wouldn’t recommend them to someone who has never skated before. For the blade it depends on your level and skating style. You can accommodate pretty much any beginner blade as they are almost all the same, your preferences will show up when you’ll level up ! But the best thing you can do is asking directly a professional (a coach, or if possible an ice skate dealer who will be able to give you real time advices). But never buy new type of skates you’ve never tried on internet on your own without knowing your foot anatomy and size !

I could never get over to do crossovers (there was no edge in the blades even how much you sharpen them) and was lacking in confidence because of that, I was only 9/10 years old. I was a level 7 SkateUK skater and was told by my coach find another sport. So I just got new skates, they're by the brand Tecnopro Safine Marina. They're pretty much like those SFR galaxy ones, but they don't have eyelets for some reason. If I go 1 to 2 times a week for 4 months every year, are the boots really only gonna last me this season and maybe some of the next? I don't fancy getting new skates every year. That price adds up.

    Say I am a beginner recreational skater that wants to buy a pair of skates. How long do skates last?

    • @everglidesskatingspecialis495
      @everglidesskatingspecialis495  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It depends what you are doing on the and how often you are going skating. I would say a Graf 500 / Jackson Mystique for recreational use (fitted correctly and without any pronation in the skaters feet) you are looking a good few years of use easily. However anything less and synthetic like SFR galaxy you are looking 6months to a year at most before the boot begins to break down as they are just light recreational boots. Maybe 2-3 times a year situation.

      You can but it will be pushing the boots limit so don’t be surprised if they begin to break down toward the end of the levels x

    I have Graf boots, but my toe pick is super small- Should I gift Them to my cousin and get myself another pair?? (I started training this january but my coach never really said anything so...)
    And thank you for this great video✨✨

    • @Lara-zk7cm
      @Lara-zk7cm 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would definitely get yourself a pair of Graf 500 boots with the full size pick and get yourself used to it now. If you leave it too long you will feel the transition more and it can be a little disheartening at first. The smaller toe pick does also slow down learning 3 turns and spins too. Definitely treat yourself to a new pair!! ⛸❤️

    Hi!!! I have a doubt, I just received my graf 500, they are a size 36 EU and come with an edea balance 9 1/3 blade. could you tell me if it is a good combination?🙏 and how far I can go with them at the level of jumps or spins. I bought them for recreational use as outdoor skating so I don't plan to do anything high level but just to be safe and not have injuries❤❤❤.

    Hi, newish to the ice here. I have roller bladed for years though so I can skate moderately well.
    My problem is my new ice boots.... I have a Jackson boot but I hate to admit It's the wrong size, the lady who sold them to me forgot to mention they were a half size. So I have that extra room in the toe box. Is there any way to combat this? I simply do not have the money to buy another pair of boots right now. I'm finding that my arches are hurting and cramping extensively and I cant be on them for more then 20 minutes without needing a break. the boots are also new. Been trying different things and playing around for a week. Haven't found a way to make it work yet. Just trying different insoles and a ways to pad out the toe box and hope it works :(
    please if you have any other tips I will greatly appreciate it x

    • @emmabrun61
      @emmabrun61 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have the exact same problem! I ended up ordering a whole size too large. I've been layering two pairs of socks and little arch pads, and that's worked decently well. It's not ideal, but it helps with the arch pain a bit. On the bright side, at least our arches are getting super strong from all of the extra balancing we're having to do 😅

      Hi Emma
      Ideally an entry leather , mouldable lesson boot, will help, level will depend on budget, under or over. Age 14, width, and biometrics. Then the perfect boot can be purchased.
      Let us know if you would like a fitting appointment.

    I know this video is almost 2 years old, so I hope comments are still being monitored on it. I am a 39 year-old male beginner and I am taking lessons. I bought the Jackson Ultima skates with Mark II blades. Are these a good choice for a beginner who is taking lessons? Planning on heat treating this week. I've only used them once so far

    • @clareupton2025
      @clareupton2025 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Welcome to skating. The mk2 blade normally comes on the new version Jackson mystique, which takes you from beginner to approximately skate uk8. After that is will show signs of stress and need an upgrade.
      There are many variations of toe box widths and shapes in the Jackson range when you upgrade next.
      Good luck with the lessons ⛸
