What if we game every character an "echo" character similar to Smash bros to expand the roster without too many changes? That way we can practically double the roster, and also add back some old favourites that were practically clones anyway. That way we can have Ryu to go with Ken, Venom to go with Spiderman, and etc.
Love the roster, my honorable mentions... On the Marvel side, Squirrel Girl and Fantomex. On the Capcom side, Mr. X and Asura.

@@TevorTheThird True but (and sorry to go Rufus for a moment BTW) that argument doesn't work so well in Japan when Phoenix Wright is Ryuichi Naruhodou and his name doesn't really clash with Ryu compared to Ryu who IMO should just be renamed Ryuu if that was an issue. In fact Smash Bros technically gave us two Roys complete with a different voice clip so yeah, Capcom are cowards who think we'll actually have a problem with Ryu and Ryu together. LOL

The trailer begins with footage from a totally real X-Men COTA with Sentry as a super secret character, then transitions to MSH, X-Men vs SF, MSH vs SF, MvC1, MvC2, MvC3, Infinite, and then shows his current model in the new game. Lovely.

To be fair, America did Rye-U dirty in 95 and 96 with the Street Fighter cartoon given how Ken got more care compared to him. Though if I could fix this, give Ken an install where he fights like Ryu (also a Violent Ken install).

Personally i would prefer they took the SvsC Chaos approach in terms of rosters, since in modern times will be almost imposible see a roster like CvS2

This is gonna sound crazy but I knew about Sentry beforehand from a Mugen called Super Marvel Vs Capcom: Eternity of Heroes which itself has lots of obscure picks.
10:30 They didn't just buy the rights, Neil Gaiman (who created the character) sued Todd McFarlane for the rights and gave, and got Marvel to fund the lawsuit by writing 1602 for them in exchange. Because Todd refused to pay him royalties. 😅
Sadly, the whole "Neil Gaiman made her!" bit of trivia has gotten a whole lot less fun lately. I'd probably swap her with, like, Valkyrie at this point. Maybe Lady Sif or Jane Foster Thor.

I would never play as Ryu in a Street Fighter in, conservatively, one million years. Least interesting character on the roster.
Also, I adore Ryu in crossovers and will always play as him and be appalled if he is absent. He's Ryu.

My only problem with the Marvel roster is that some of the characters, Elektra Daredevil, God Emperor Dr. Doom, Beta Ray Bill, I feel should be just skins with the exception of Elektra with her Daredevil outfit being an alternate costume.
They could literally pull an Injustice and have alternate skin characters have their own VA with dialogue so you could have both Murdock and Elektra Daredevil
I'd be so legit upset if Electra daredevil made it into a game before daredevil did.

@user-tr1ui4fx1g a lot of people forget that popular fan favorites and legacy characters should make it and not fill half the roster with MCU and obscure characters. Daredevil and Punisher have waited long enough. Nightcrawler, being a fan favorite X-Men, not in a game is a crime!
Other dream rosters rely too much on nostalgia or play it too safe with obvious choices.

I think Franziska Von Karma is the Ace Attorney character best suited for combat with her zoning whip
I was super close to putting her in.
She was also considered for TvC. So she's got some minor legacy with Capcom's Vs. series.
I think Franziska could be KOF Whip's rival in Capcom vs. SNK 3.
As a part of the 1% that loved/remembers Chaos Legion, love to see it getting remembered like this. Points lost for no Cyclops though.
I'd love for his name in the roster to just be 'That guy from Chaos Legion', don't even use the real name lol. Make people go out and get learned.

Well...the problem is that Chaos Legion is licensed property, based on a light novel series (there are 7 of them), which unfortunately disqualifies Sieg from being in this.
Before anyone brings up our good gal Linn from AvP, it's actually not the same as the possibility of getting her in a new MvC, because that *is* finally within some realm of possibility now, since she's an original Capcom character, albeit created *for* a licensed property based on something Marvel's parent company Disney does own, making that hurdle less of a hurdle.
On the flipside, getting Sieg in MvC or any crossover fighting game would be like Capcom getting Jotaro or DIO in MvC, since both Chaos Legion and JoJo's Bizarre Adventure are licensed properties that got video game adaptations by Capcom. You can probably determine how realistic that is. lol
That said, aside from Cyclops' redemption arc with finally getting love from Marvel and the fans, there's the iconography of the Ryu and Cyclops handshake alone makes both necessities since seeing the two of them recreate that in a new game would be your marquee moment for the reveal trailer imo.
While I would like the change of pace to have Ken over Ryu, we know that isn't gonna happen. However, I would love to see "Quick Change Ryu" from MvC1 return where he can change his moveset into Ken and Akuma again, that way we don't need the others BUT they could add skins that are straight up Ken AND Akuma (complete with different voice lines and win quotes to make it right), that way the trio is all technically there, anyway.
That's the best solution for how to do it, to keep their mascot there whilst also doing somethin' fresh to bring Ken and Akuma back to MvC without taking up actual individual character/CSS space with them.

I feel like Kamala Ms. Marvel would have to be in it with how she's no doubt the most recent 'iconic' character they got. Plus, her shapeshifting could make for a really fun and distinct moveset compared to all those flying dudes. And on the Capcom side, Asura would just be real cool to see.

@@ItsTheFizzI think her moveset should be focused more on her original powers but she could still have moves using her new ones. Just for skills they can do that her stretching can’t though like projectiles and a shield for her block.
@@Rough_EstimatesReed would play very differently from Kamala. Reed tends to stretch his entire body more while Kamala only really stretches her limbs with her shapeshifting focusing more on embiggening.
And if they wanted they could throw in Dhalsim and have three very different stretchy characters.
This and Maximillian Dood’s choices is like the Yin and Yang of MvC fan rosters.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who felt like Max's side for the Marvel roster was the most white bread stuff imaginable. I don't hate the X-man, but LORD, does Max do tricks on it whenever they're mentioned in a mvc game.
Edit: Not eve 10 minutes in, and you already sold me on the roster when you added Robbie Reyes. Dude doesn't get enough appreciation as Ghost Rider
I’d want Nightcrawler to be there somewhere. One of the key characters of X-Men’s redesign in 1975, he’s one of the best characters not to get featured enough in the animated series (gratefully rectified in 97, complete with a long-overdue opening titles inclusion). Super agile, teleportation as not only a moveset but a feature of normals (particularly throws). Also could employ his swordsmanship and tail for agility and mobility. Most importantly, his name is essentially a synonym for “Darkstalker” so any opportunity to get more “Darkstalkers” into the game is a move I want to see.
Btw, great job including Talbain who apparently was one slot away from being included in the UMvC3 roster before time ran out; Kung-Fu Werewolves should always have high priority.
Vile being here makes this automatically the best fan roster
Psylocke would be tough. Post Krakoa, Betsy and Kwannon are back in their original bodies, so if you go with the classic design it’s not Betsy and if you go Betsy, it’s Captain Britain.
To be fair, few people playing MvC2 ever knew Psylocke as 'Betsy', so you could probably get away with putting Kwannon and just ignoring the elephant in the room.
Honestly, with how FG works, they can just put Psylocke, original design, and not even call her by her civilian name.
I think the design was the main reason Psylocke stayed popular anyway, the vast majority of people would just recognize Kwannon's design anyway and I doubt it would super matter. Kwannon even took the name Psylocke, it's fine

Man, Sleepwalker is a deep cut. He’s one of those characters I only know from collecting Marvel trading cards in the early ‘90s, I don’t think he’s ever appeared outside the comics. No video games, movies or cartoons, not even as a background character or easter egg.
I like the idea of Beta ray bill, nice touch!
I only disagree about not having Deadpool. It is a must have due his popularity.
Have to say, this roster is pretty sweet in my book. Aside from some staples, Marvel has some characters I should know about while having some cool moves for MvC (also Blade, Punisher and Kingpin) while Capcom has some cool and unexpected choices like Tiffany, Cyber Blue and Ema Skye that would definitely work in this game. I don't see any bad choices in my book as I'm glad certain other Marvel and Capcom characters are getting spotlight while keeping certain staples.
As for DLC, favorites have to be Apocalypse, Squirrel Girl, Dr. Wily and Edgeworth.
I think, if there is MvC4, the 2 new characters that have to be in it are Daredevil and Ms Marvel, both would fit in soooooo well

You leaned a bit hard into the chaos for my taste but I appreciate seeing someone else seeing the value of separating the roster from previous games in order to give it value outside of competition.
MVC2 roster is vastly different from UMVC3 and plays different too. I hope MVC4 is the same! People forget these games should be platforms to introduce people to new stuff as well.
My friends and I were doing our own list and someone suggested Kingpin but with Sinister Six moves/assists. Electro fires a beam of electricity at the opponent, Vulture flies across the top of the screen slashing any airborne characters, Rhino does a shoulder charge on the ground slamming the opponent into the wall/air, Scorpion sprays his acid and poisons the opponent/the ground in a spot, Green Goblin flies across the screen with a pumpkin bombing run and Doc Oc grabs the opponent and either slams them onto the ground and holds them in place.
Ok to clarify about Angela what happened was that she was made by Neil Gaimen when he worked on the Spawn comics, but there was a legal dispite between Neil and Todd McFarlane over who owned the characters and thusly was owed the profits made from toys, and Neil teamed up with Marvel to take down Todd, and now she's a Marvel character
I wouldn't be surprised if in a hypothetical Marvel vs Capcom 4 includes Jeff the Land Shark as a joke fighter as well as Moon Girl with Devil Dinosaur

Honestly there`s so many different and great versions of these chartacters that I`d love to see Capcom implement a variation mechanic like MKX, where each style would correspond to a different character - or maybe even echo fighters, Smash style. So you know, you could get Peter Parker and Miles, Johnny Blaze and Robbie Reyes, Mega Man and X, so on and so forth.
I like this roster way more than Max’s, though Ema on the base roster while Edgeworth is relegated to *DLC* is WILD
I know this seems like a pipe dream but I feel like we could actually get a big roster like this if Capcom focused on utilizing our current gen technology on providing lots of content instead of using it to add fidelity to each character’s individual eyebrow hairs

Bucky is DLC in MVCI so there is a gun using Marvel character in the games. I respect the Angela pick btw, she's an interesting piece of comic trivia. Cosigned on Regina too, she deserves a shot after all these years.

Imagine her being a jinx character being able to reverse your controls or disabled Supers
Black cat and SpiderGwen, especially after three last spider verse movie. She's an actual great character that marvel has come up with in the last 10-20 years.
Characters I definitely don't want: Captain Marvel or Ms. Marvel (kamala khan). OG Ms. Marvel with the black outfit and sash would be fine, just not the Captain variety or the Kamala Khan version.
Onslaught, Pyron, Vile and many other villains sold me on your roster!
The moment they gave Lady Dee a moveset for Mercenaries... she became perfect to meet Blade in MVC.
this is the best mvc4 roster video I've seen i would probably still cutdown on SF reps and include asura from asura's wrath and substitute the onimusha protag's appearance to that one from the 4th game
This list was refreshing/interesting. Too many list feel like a commercial for upcoming products along with "staple" characters/people's mains than a celebration of both brands. Vile is an awesome pick for a megaman villain. Though I wonder which version they will pick. Magma Dragoon would be my other pick for mega man x villain. If we get firebrand again i hope he is based off his demon's crest incarnation where he has elemental gargoyle powers.
Good picks overall, i feel like your deep cuts made up for the big name cuts like Ryu and Magneto

I would like to suggest another sword wielding character for Capcom: Maximo from Maximo: Ghosts to Glory and VS Army of Zin. Either to replace Seig from Chaos Legion or as a DLC character. He's technically from Ghosts N' Goblins and he's not Arthur
I would also like some more Mega Man representation from the GBA and DS franchises. Even Zero's MMZ incarnation barely gets recognition
Yeah, while Vile could fit fairly well as an MvC moveset, it feels really basic to have the X games (plus Wily) be the only Mega Man characters in the roster, especially after Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite had three X characters and gave them story spotlight. While the MMZ version of Zero has Vs. series history with SNK, I think it's honestly prime time for the RPGs to get their full fighting game dues. Bass.EXE, Colonel.EXE, Star Force Mega Man, Harp Note, if you wanted to go weird, NumberMan.EXE or Duo. That said, for Zero/ZX love, there could be Copy X, Harpuia, Omega, Pandora, Aile, or Ashe.
Matt seemed SO CLOSE by picking Command Mission X, but if they really wanted to do a fresh roster, they should use a wholly new "Mega Man" for the Vs. series.
I get wanting the Punisher, but I think Elsa Bloodstone would be a cool Marvel gun user also.

Dude this roster is sick. As an X-team guy seeing shatterstar there absolutely made me pop off. The only thing that could possibly go harder is having Boom Boom there
Jon Talbain would be an absolute blast to play as in a Marvel VS Capcom setting, using Beast Cannons to navigate the stage, Million Flicker to deflect projectiles and control space, Climb Lasers for Anti Air, Dragon Cannon, Mirage Double and Moment Slice being his Hyper Combos, in other words, basically, I want the VGExiles version of Jon Talbain in a playable form, also get Ed Bosco to voice him.

Ema Skye is very unexpected but not unwelcome. I've always wanted Simon Blackquill or Franziska von Karma for another Ace Attorney rep personally though maybe the former's move set potential has too much overlap with Strider?

Actually love the idea of going from a safest marvel to entirely unsafe is great.
Probably the best one of these I've seen someone do. There are definitely snubs (where's Asura) and characters I'm personally kind of over (Felicia) but I would be so hype for this roster overall, Matt definitely understands that the main hype of crossover rosters is seeing characters that you haven't already seen crossover a billion times. Sparda might be the coolest pick I've seen anyone make ever, what a cool idea.
After how much the Part 4 Nirvana stuff in Asura's Wrath changed your opinion on the game, really surprised you didn't include him here, even as DLC or an honorable mention,
what a fun roster, exactly the super deep cut freakshow I was hoping to see! Would love if they did even a fifth of these picks, but time will tell.
