- Game Atelier's new release Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom is a new game that takes inspiration from Wonder Boy games of years past. Here I take a look at the game, and share some thoughts on its quality.

Imagine if Sega made a new shinobi game with modern day graphics and old School game play! I would buy it day one!!!

I just reached the Volcano and LOVING this game so much! It's such a throwback to Wonder Boy and this might just be my GOTY.

Just ordered my switch copy. Glad the game is getting such a great reception! I was initially cautiously optimistic and not expecting too much.

That new version makes me wanna dust of my old master system 2 and mega drive and play the serie all over again.

Wonderboy and the Dragons Trap I pre ordered and was a fair price.. I got it because I was a fan of the Master System game that I once completed.. Fond memories :) Anyway I see Monster Boy on PSN and thought a lil bit pricey.. When cheaper I will get it as it complements the Wonderboy and the Dragons Trap remake.
this game right here...looks AWESOME. Like they really put care into the visuals and feel of this game. Getting your take on the rest. But I HAD to say something on those visuals. My goodness..

The cartoony vibe of the game would fit right in with that kind of hand drawn graphics.

I know the $40 price tag is a little off putting but the game is phenomenal. I'm about halfway through and have really been enjoying it. The first run copies come with a manual and sticker set so if you're interested in that stuff grab it now.
What a great Game, thank you for bringing it to my attention. Even the crab and the mushroom look like from Wonderboy, since SEGA is involved it feels good, home, and comfy while viewing. Thx again!

Just got this today and having lots of fun with it. Great game.
Still gotta get through Dragons Trap which i've had on the backburner for some time but hopefully find time to get through that & this sometime soon, they look great. Have you seen the trailer for the new Toe Jam & Earl?
Man that pick up thing and going back to discover hidden items is what they Should have added in Sonic 3D(Saturn) Puggsy för Mega CD has the option go up and about to look for things and one can revisor level. Watching this presentation means that I startade thinking about Puggsy
Despite what you or many other people have said or that they even just think this game is basically a new Wonder Boy game it really is even when you finally access the map there's a little thing that says Monster World so this is an actual sequel there's even a chapel that has Stained Glass portraits of every character from every Wonderboy or Monster World game up till now.
Try Aggelos its like wonderboy 3 but is its own game. It came out recently and I love it.
I can't wait for this to come out on the PC.... Nuff said.
Does it only take inspiration/cues from wonder boy 3, or does it also pay hommage to momster world on genesis?

It generally is made to pay homage and continue the legacy of the Monster World series (Monster World IV included), also Wonder Boy III remake was developed separately so they're not necessarily that connected other than the shared roots. The original creator of MW series was onboard on developing Monster Boy too.

I picked this up for switch and its tough but fun, I will pick up the PS4 version soon as well. I also own the Wonderboy game for PS4. also a tough game.

Whats the music in the end?
Tried the game and I love the throwback to Wonderboy III and I strongly agree with the lush visuals. However, the combat mechanics have not aged well; I don’t feel fluidity in control when you can only stab straight forward and enemies attack at all angles. I wish it had omnidirectional stabbing even if it’s different from what it’s referencing.

This looks awesome, although I'm always disappointed when oldschool games like this don't give you a score.
Why does no one talk about this game?
Sega just seems to hate money, don't they? They're perfectly content to put their stamp of approval on sub-par Genesis clone systems and umpteen "Genesis Ultimate!" collections that contain the same selection of games.
I want this game..but 40 bucks is a little too steep.
$60 here in Australia, quite the shock. Can't put that much money down for any game atm.

Adventure Island has been dormant more time than it should and it will keep that way since Konami doesn't care.
PC gamer here no monster boy for Christmas go to hell Sega and where is another panzer dragoon game wtf.
Actually they are remaking panzer drangon 1 and 2 with modern graphics

Not saying I have any issues with gameplay, etc. but I hate the look of this game
The art style looks like some talentless artists work, the previous remake looked nicer
