TH-cam???????????????????
TH-cam THE REAL ONE
I've been looking all over your channel for some information on how you can afford to stay in all of these "luxurious" (expensive) hotels. So far not a clue. Did you ever deal with this question in earliest shows/
I worked at the Savoy back in 1991. When we were shown round the hotel on our induction course we went into a dining room, where during the second world war Sir Winston Churchill was having dinner with 12 guests. When they realised there were 13 people round the table they got a place laid for the hotel cat making the total number 14. There was a little statue of the cat in that room.
Ah, I like that story . The place has a lot of history I believe, and strong links to the theatre and the Doyle Cart Opera company.
What a great story
lovely story xx
Any hauntings?
When I was seven years old, we stayed at the Savoy. They messed up on our reservations and the first night we stayed across the alley in a very old, abandoned hotel. The original Savoy? Straw mattress! We had sailed first class on the new SS United States. Do you know anything about the old hotel?
A few years ago my friend who stayed at Savoy invited me to visit the hotel. I coughed when I was leaving the revolving door. Suddenly, a truly kind doorman, Genci, sent me a bottle of still and asked whether was I alright. That moment touched me because I wasn't even a guest there.
Yes, the staff used to be true gentlemen there, real gold. But not any more. (Watching to see if, hopefully, anything has changed.)
I was there with my Aunt recently;
& hv never not had impeccable
service there. The Doormen
are usually marvelous
& my Aunt alternates between
The Savoy, the Dorchester
when she is Visiting
(& another Hotel which
shall remane nameless
lest YT decides to go
there) all of which
offer a lot re Privacy

Watching your videos is like having a little weekend break without the palaver of having to pack and unpack 😂
And paying the bill 😁
Especially this bill…
I trained as a nurse in London, when we’d finished all our exams, my set all went out for breakfast at the Savoy - it was fantastic 👍
and u r striking?
@@grahamlaidlaw7164 they have every right to - we don't live in Russia, Graham.
might soon@@bm8516
In the good old days . Before an obnoxious young lady said , excuse me , can I help yoooooooooou ?
@@grahamlaidlaw7164 No Graham, I don’t believe in strike action actually, but if I did, it would be no one’s business but my own.
Someone may have said this already, but those chandeliers are Venetian (murano) blown glass. Maybe they did a plastic version but I would think not. In fact, "Pierre Yves Rochon used the finest materials from Murano glass chandeliers and silk wall coverings to Italian linens and marble floors." That type of glass looks surreal to me. Enjoy your videos.
I've been to the Murano factory near Venice and yes, the lights do look authentic and they'll be incredibly expensive!
If you go to Venice the Murano and Burano boat trip is interesting and worth a look 👍🏻
@@SkipSidekickI had been there as a child too.
Oh OK yes acrylic maybe .. but you can understand why I thought that
Was that frank lampard sat behind Tim
I totally agree and his comments re 90s wall paper was a bit weird too.
I watched Abby first so this is a bit grating. The urns were beautiful and the comment re the ashes seemed out of place.
The chandelier is definitely Murano. It’s not cheap, it’s beautiful 🤩
Yes, l was certain that the chandeliers were all made of highly expensive Italian Murano Glass... no el cheapo Ikea plastic on the Savoy.
🥸👌🍷🍷❤️❤️🦘
Those are murano glass chandeliers. Not acrylic or "plastic"
I was grimacing as he was saying you can get them at IKEA.
I'd love to see the three of you doing Claridges. The staff there are meant to be amazing and will literally do anything that any guest requests - nothing is too much trouble.
I would like to see that as well!
Coming Friday 😊
@@WalkWithMeTim-How's that for You Tube service!
Yeay!!!
Yes, would love to see that
Tim, The Savoy is a brilliant top notch hotel, we stayed there 6 nights in 2022 for my wife's birthday, we got a 3 nights for 2 offer and worked out about £4500 for 6 nights accom. plus we got free breakfast daily for the 3 of us too. The pastries that come with your breakfast are insane, just so good. We also enjoyed the atmosphere of The American Bar. Even when you check in, you get a glass of champagne in the waiting room as standard. The only thing that irks me, same with The Balmoral in Edinburgh, is the 5% additional (optional) room charge that supposedly goes to the maids. I'm thoroughly against this charge as everyone pays enough for the room itself that the hotel can afford to give them that extra 5% if they wish out of their own profits.
Surcharges are a scourge on the hospitality business. It's just another way for businesses to increase prices without seeming to raise basic rates. Possibly they are meant to compensate for those who do not leave a tip for the housekeeping staff, but I don't think guests should be tipping those staff members who are just doing their jobs behind the scene... pay them a living wage and maybe increase the basic rates if necessary. That's just me, tipping and surcharges may be hard to get rid of as businesses like to play those games. Oh well
@@hatchling88I agree. I worked in a hotel as a maid when I was in school. We were paid minimum wage, and the head housekeeper kept all of the tips for herself.
Was expecting a kid on a trike to ride down the corridors shouting "REDRUM" 😅
Very posh but yes... My Hubby said the exact same thing. He couldn't at first remember the name of the film but remembered "redrum".
First thing that came to mind! 😂
Funny
What a lovely experience, so many of us may never travel to London and we can live vicariously through you!
Gaby looked beautiful in her black dress. Very elegant x
Thanks Judy
I thought the same. The large flower on the side of the dress was very classic, like a Dior!!
Tim is punching well above his weight.
Gaby n Tim are adorable !
Doesn't she just.
The stairs in the 19th century was usually in rich homes. The staff was to use them. The hotel did not want the maids to be seen by guest. That was the back stairs.
My husband and I got married last September (very low key) and immediately afterwards spent two nights at The Savoy. It's no exaggeration to say we had the time of our lives. They could not have been kinder or done more for us, the service was beyond exceptional. We are sending my parents there for their golden wedding this year and I'm sure we will be back. Memorable.
❤❤❤
Excellent to see them using a Coravin to dispense your wine. It’s a wonderful device that allows you to take a single glass of wine from a bottle without uncorking it. As the wine is dispensed the Coravin infuses the bottle with argon which settles on the top of the wine to prevent oxidisation. Essentially you can take a glass of wine out of the bottle and then put it back to continue aging as normal.
Oh wow. Im nearly 60 years of age now but I never knew that, thank you. Embarrassing thing is; I trained as a Silver Service waiter when I was 19: - the SHAMME LOL.
I love that you can still learn something new every day 😀, I'm 40 and this is new information to me, thank you
@@stuartrowena4371 The Coravin is a relatively new invention and quite niche but it works extremely well. It has interchangeable needles so you can swap out the main one for a specialist vintage needle if you need to. I've been using a Coravin for a few years and I love how it allows me to enjoy an expensive bottle of wine over a year or more. The only caveat of course is that the bottle has to have a real cork so that it can naturally reseal after the Coravin needle is removed from the bottle. It's a cool gadget!
Hi Jonathan, very interesting. Years ago my old Dad used to have a vacuum pump which removed the air from inside the bottle so keeping it fresher for longer. It sounds as if the Coravin is somewhat of an improvement on that however, particularly with the addition of the Argon gas. Happy dining.
Yes, but how do you clean the contraption?
I don't like it. Just pour the correct measure. If they can't do it, there are plenty of plates to be washed in the kitchen. 😊
I stayed there when there was a refit going on, unknown to me. Believe it or not, they actually ran out of beer and vodka. So I went to a local Sainsburys, and got a 4 pack of Kronenbourg and they let me drink it in the bar 👍
Wow
Love eccentric tales. Shah of Persia prepared a barbeque in the middle of his suite at Claridge's when he stayed.
the summary at the end was great. the ritz video was pure indulgence , especially when they took your drinks from bar to the restaurant but honestly you seem overall happier at the savoy - more looked after, more made to feel at home and welcomed and treated like a family not as a source of income.
Yes even the ghost was polite lol
@@WalkWithMeTim I am sure I heard the ghost say please like and subscribe lol
i am astounded that people pay that ! 75 quid an hour for baby sitter ? then bill you for the next half hour too :/ . Having stayed in allsorts over the years from India ,EU & UK . Give me a caravan near Pakefield beach near Lowestoft any day & i hope it rains at night cos theres nowt like rain in a caravan ! :D
@@mcfcguvnors yeah I agree, there's a lot of people who have more money than sense and do things for a status.
The green is commemorative of the Savoy Cabbages from Italy!
I have a friend who did an apprenticeship as a pastry chef at the Savoy.. she is defiantly the best Pastry chef I have ever seen. Phenomenal, what she can do
The fabric beading is called fillet, it can a fabric braid or it can be metal/wood/plaster. It’s a sign of very high quality. It used to be normal in very grand houses but is rarely done now.
16:05 That guy in the background who suddenly realises you're filming and tries to hide, then releases he's too big for the space. 😂😂
I didn't see that till you just said 😂
Haha that’s hilarious 😂
😂
@@tracyholliday361 he didn't even now he was there till someone pointed him out.
That wrong. It is deemed by UK law as a 'public place'. You can film anywhere in public without permission (some complicated rules for not to but in this situation not revelant). Also, he has permission to film by asking in advance in writing to the hotel his team etc (I work in business\ I know law to a small extent for my job) @@tracyholliday361
Lightweight, plastic chandeliers are actually required by law if in sleeping areas. Makes sense when you consider how much damage could be caused by a heavy glass one falling on you in the middle of the night.
I’m not sure about that, I can’t find any information reflecting such legislation in the UK.
Makes sense. I can't see a multi billion enterprise skimping on their flagship.
This is positively wrong, remember , there is alwayys a possibility that the ceiliong may drop down on you, but that has never happened, except if there was an earthquake. the same thing goes for all fixtures. Even the big wardrobe might fall and kill someone. So all fixtures have to be properly fastened, and As iæ said, no one have been killed or injured in any civilized country by falling ceiling lights if there was not an earthquake or fire
Not true, I work for a company that sells chandeliers to places like this, they're very much buying glass ones
Ahhh Savoy, beautiful Art Deco, sophisticated as ever and elegantly renovated! Simply, marvellous!!
Gaby looks absolutely stunning and is so lovely :)
I always think so !
Aww...that's so lovely🙂
I’m totally living vicariously through your travels and stays. Thank you for showing us the Savoy and the restaurant. I doubt I’d ever be able to do it myself, but because of you I feel like I’ve had the experience. 🙂
Tim I have to say I am more impressed with the Savoy than the Ritz Carlton. The Savoy is beautiful! I love when Gabby and Casper come along with you, Gabby is so beautiful and Casper is adorable. To me the Savoy accomodates you way better. I'm really obsessed with the Savoy. Thank you for taking us along and sharing.
The Ritz is not a Ritz Carlton. Ritz Carlton is a brand of Marriott. The Ritz is just the name of that hotel.
11:36 That toy has magical powers, you shook it and Casper momentarily dissappeared.
I’ve been watching this channel for a while now and I’m just impressed with Tim’s eye for detail.
How do you use your camera in the pool?
@@SuperMarion61he probably uses a go pro..and you can use them under water..
This like the Ritz is expensive.... but to say you been there and think back in years to come to the special history and atmosphere of these places... thats what its all about ❤
They are both a concept of the same person; "Caesar Ritz"
From a crane to a high end hotel this is why I love your channel.
Lovely to see places we wouldn't normally go to bit expensive but loved looking around with you thanks for sharing ☺️ xx
The plugs are actually 5 amp points ,it’s actually a lighting circuit they are not actual plug sockets.
oh that explains things
@@WalkWithMeTim And a lighting circuit is designed so that by turning a single switch, usually by the door, you can switch all the table lamps and floor lamps on and off without having to go to each individual lamp. If you are ever doing a new build or major renovation I would highly recommend them - very classy.
@@gdok6088they’re useful for turning all lights on, however I wouldn’t personally want them because for every one you’d need a normal plug socket too. It would do my head in to not have a proper socket whenever I saw one.
That can also be copied by getting Trådfri, Hue or similar as well, if you are not renovating. It's quite nice to have it all hooked up together.@@gdok6088
These days with electronics, I'd have imagined ample standard plug sockets would be provided when shelling out over £1,000 a night.
Pre pandemic and happier times for a while it was a yearly trip to The Savoy for Afternoon Tea for my parents and I. There were never any airs and graces from any of the staff, and customer service was always on point. One of the best top hotels in London in that aspect.
Love the video of the savoy. Beautiful hotel. It was fun going on the adventure with you and your wife and baby boy.
I can't believe how little Casper has grown those curls are very cute❤
I've been waiting for this one. Great work sir. The round plugs are 5 amp and for lighting circuits only.
Love it when Gabby joins you . She looks amazing!!
I agree. She is absolutely stunning ❤
Great review. It always makes me laugh these “grand” hotels such as the Savoy & Ritz. The rooms are almost identical to my great grandmas house which makes me laugh.
Thanks for the tour of The Savoy , because it’s a place I could never afford 👍Thanks Tim, Gaby n Casper 🤗💕
Our pleasure!
You can always afford a drink at a The American bar. Expensive of course but worth it.
Always lovely to see Gaby and Casper 🎉❤
The Savoy Hotel was off grid when I worked there in 1979. In its basement were its own power generators provided by The Strand electricity Power Company! Hence the reasons for its lack of sockets in the rooms.
WOW... I love this!!! ❤ I was getting "The Shining" vibes in the very beginning and then Gaby said the exact same thing... weird! 😨 In the late 1920's or early 1930's, my grandpa was part owner and chef at The Savoy Hotel in Aberdeen, Washington. 😊
Went to the America bar about 10 years ago and it felt like a trip back in time to the realms of Sinatra. Loved it even with £20 plus cocktails 🍹
Good to see you & Gaby ( who looked amazing too ) stay at Savoy Hotel i have always wondered what its like inside and your vlog shows what a stunning hotel it is great review as always Tim 👍
I was a firefighter in London in the 90’s. I remember attending a fire call to the Savoy and on arrival being asked to remove our boots! We politely declined 😊
At this point, with the popularity of your channel, I have to wonder if the hotels know who you are and are making extra efforts to keep you happy. For the Savoy, I recently watched a doc on it and I believe that they do go the extra distance to satisfy your requests. I'm curious, what was Caspers Prize for completing the tasks?
Good question! But I'm not that famous lol. However, a couple of staff members did recognise me but doubt they know when I book
It will be to a certain extent, a few hotels now will know who you are
Hey there you guys looks like you have had a great time I really enjoyed seeing everything that you shared with me it’s nice that they welcomed your son and made you feel welcome to I would love to stay there it all seemed very friendly thank you for sharing ❤
There was a lovely natural feeling about this vlog which I loved, probably because I met you guys at Blackpool at the weekend which was amazing, you Gaby and Casper are both genuinely lovely people, can’t wait to see you again mate

I love these video's with Gaby and Kasper. So down to earth with expectations and reality!
Beautiful video that I like ! Thank you for sharing it with pleasure . Happy week to you !
Hiya Tim and Gaby and thumbs, great vlog and very beautiful hotel, but wow what a price for taste menu and to stay, but I like the pool, you both looked amazing and I hope you all had an amazing time, thank you for sharing, have a great evening 🤗
Tim, did you realise when you were swimming that you were directly above the Savoy Theatre when the theatre burnt down in the 1990s when they rebuilt it was installed there and has not been moved if a fire? started in the theatre the bottom of the pool came crashing down in the theatre and would help to put the fire out.
Regarding the Broderick or other celebrities appearing at the theatre, it's normal that they will stay in private residences or if they really want Savoy apartments can be used but it very rarely happens.
Omg I didn't know that .. but yes did about the actors
Hi Tim, the Chandeliers are definitely not plastic, they are Italian bespoke Murano blewn glass. A friend of mine worked there so he told me. They look beautiful
SO CLEAN! How refreshing.
My husband and I love your videos! Hope to see you reviewing a luxury Swiss hotel soon.
Fantastic, Needed that after the last three crazy places you stayed at. Great to see the family in the video too. As for the cost, seemed fair compared to that crane gaff omg 🤣😂.Keep up the good work Tim.
Glad you enjoyed it Michael, thank you
Absolutely Fantastic video Mr. Tim. Thank you for taking us with you.
Built by the legendary Caesar Ritz ♥️
Crikey - hefty prices! I could have a week away at my favourte 4* hotel in Crete plus flights for that - but you and Gaby deserve to try the best as you've had some pretty grotty stays too! The lack of sockets is a thing though - especially as you said the hotel was refurbished in 2007 and they shut the doors - they should have rewired. it was grand but I wouldn't want to stay there. But kudos to the staff for going out of their way to make Casper welcome - that is a really nice touch.
I stayed a week at the Savoy more than 40 years ago when it still had this old world charm. The waiting staff wore different suits depending on the time of the day i.e. morning suit at breakfast etc. Strangely enough the decor of the room is just as how I remembered it.
I, too, stayed at the Savoy for a month, 45 years ago. As a young college graduate of 20, I was overwhelmed. It was the nicest hotel I have ever stayed in, and I enjoyed it so much. I think of the "old" Savoy with fond memories. I must say I prefer it pre-renovations, though; more like the Savoy of old. By the way, our suite cost 25 pounds per night.
Lovely video and review. Gabby, as always, looked absolutely stunning. You two are a beautiful couple! (And Kasper is adorable ❤!)
It's great seeing you and your wife having a lovely time.
We had a work meal here a couple of years ago, it was lovely! We sat in Gordon Ramsay's private room and had oysters and caviar. The toilets were the prettiest I've ever seen and the smell of the flowers everywhere was just lovely.
GR's private room! Did you get an 'attitude' with it?
Really nice review and video production, as always! Very Posh and nice! Great that Gaby and Casper staying too!
Thanks so much!
Lovely room!! This is on top of my wishlist, the British Royals love Savoy too 😍 A weekend at Savoy, afternoon tea, and tours by foot in London, with guide, then I can rest 😊
The attention to detail is amazing from the Savoy
Perfect!
The snuggly kitty for your son is just so nice of them . Fantastic. Nice hotel ❤ Always include the kids!🎉
Hi Tim & Gaby - absolutely amazing, however i would have needed to go to the chippy after the evening meal. great vlog, love it 👍❤
The round plugs are on a dedicated circuit for lighting only, so the lamps can all be controlled by a switch on the wall. They are still installed today for that application in some places.
If I had to choose between the Savoy or the Ritz, definitely favour the Savoy. The Savoy felt like it was more classier but not too snobby if you get what I mean Tim.
Personally I thought the dinner looked a bit naff especially with how much it cost but the breakfast was the star of the show, looked top notch!! 👌🏻I would definitely pay £45 for that breakfast if it wasn’t included with the room.
Another fantastic produced video Tim
Have to agree 👍
Love to see you try the Chesterfield Mayfair.
Great video making me miss London. Every building in London takes you to its own little world...
Gaby looks amazing as usual , good video 😊
My jaw dropped when I saw that children are provided with a teddy and a personalised message! That's service.
Come on! For the price he’s paying! A £5 teddy is nothing! This is how they get away with their ridiculous prices! Not even real flowers they can provide. When people stop accepting rubbish they will stop robbing people!
@@coralice6263 Well, yeah, it IS a lot of money. But I mean, a staff member actually sat at a computer and typed out an individual letter making note of the fact that the boy has the same name as the mascot cat. It's not just a generic printout.
@@autiethoughties6898 you're correct, it's not an expense they can't afford but the attention to detail when making things like that more custom is partly what you're paying for. It creates a memory and a keepsake for the child. Something like that would've made my day as a child.
My jaw dropped also when I saw the cost of babysitting for a few hours.
Definitely minus points for the Savoy there.
It’s funny the only thing of substantial portion size at dinner was the bread. But maybe that’s what a “tasting menu” is, I guess several courses of little nibbly bits.
I’ve stayed at the Savoy a few times. Always loved it. Used their Spa to celebrate my 65 birthday with my twin sister. Love the red seat in the lift. Have a picture from one of our stays. Great video.
Thank you for making this video. I definitely want to go there now! We've been for afternoon tea, and I agree that the staff are so attentive, you want for nothing - every time I looked as though I needed more tea, a waitress came over and filled my cup for me! I preferred the Savoy to the Ritz only because of the grandeur of the entrance and how lovely the staff were. BUT the fact that the Savoy has a pool is a major win for me. I've watched the TV series about the Savoy on Channel 5 and they've never mentioned that they have a pool!
I missed that .. Will have to re watch watch it

Some very expensive hotels can make you feel uncomfortable. If they're pretentious or snooty, there can be an atmosphere from the staff and other guests. The Savoy is different and feels more homely.
Lovely video very interesting and eye opening. Amazing to see something most of us would never get a chance to see. It obviously was a lovely experience for you all including Casper! xx

What a lovely couple and video ❤
Very interesting and informative. Thank you for this really helpful review. 😊
Those round sockets for the lamps are an old standard in the UK. The small ones are for lighting only and rated at 5A so you would struggle to run a hair dryer from them, they are also very often switched by switches near the doors to allow the lamps to be controlled together with the main room lighting. These days you really only see them in hotels. The larger round pin sockets are rated higher but have long since all been replaced by square pin 13A sockets - some are still around in theatres for stage lighting equipment although with the spread of DMX control systems those are disappearing too.
Lovely down to earth beautiful couple....really enjoyed this vidio...thankyou and God Bless x
Hi Tim, Gabby, Thanks for yet another really fine video about the Savoy Hotel. Having frequented this place way back in the 1970's it certainly brought back many lovely memories.
And the fact that the staff were so good to look after Casper just shows the quality of the place and their staff.
