Mike sold me my first Gibson bass when I 13 years old. I’ll never forget it. He made it seem like it had already been sold, and I was so bummed about it because I had my eye on that particular bass for a really long time... So I went to go look at the other options on the wall, and Mike all of a sudden sneaks up behind me holding a case that said “Gibson” on the side of it. I cried. Such a cool moment.
East Tennessee here! I grew up the exact same way, I had long hair and have always listened to metal! I've always blazed my own path! God bless all yall, rock on!
I’m admittedly am not the most die-hard YOB fan, but their album “Clearing the Path to Ascend” is great man…and I really like his comments here about judgmental attitudes. Seems like a smart guy.
As a teacher going into my 19th year it’s hard hearing these stories about kids not feeling accepted because they look different. I’d like to think in general we’ve made some progress at least in certain places. That being said I have a pentagram tattooed on the back of my hand and I’ll regularly wear YOB or Neurosis shirts to work while teaching all AP classes.
i´m a teacher too, in Chile, where society still is very conservative not only about how you look but about what you think, so i totally understand. keep on rocking!.
@@SaburoYanagiuchi Yeah. When he still lived in the Bay Area I’d see him at a ton of shows and teachers who are also in doom/post-metal bands aren’t exactly common (I wish I could find a drummer at work) but I felt it would be awkward to start a conversation with him about teaching and music because I didn’t want to seem like a stalker but they are my favorite band (I’m actually wearing a Neurosis shirt today to work) so I never ended up talking to him.
One of the best metal interviews I've seen. Mike seems like a down-to-earth guy whose personality has been shaped by authentic struggle. As someone who didn't have a mother or father who supported his style of learning or interests, and consequently has spent life unsure of himself and searching for an identity, it's heartening to see what can happen with the undying support of a good mother. Thanks for your music and inspiration.
Damn, it's nice to see musicians like Mike. Seems to try and treat people well because he understands the suffering people go through. He pulls from his experiences and learns from them.
This really shows how quick the educational system is to give up up on individuals. It's a damn shame. I was the same way. They gave up on me but I made it throw and am thriving. Love Mike, love Yob.
Caught the Montreal show a week ago, great show, they blew the power in the club. What an honest and truly formed human being Mike is. I also nearly died around the same time he did, so I can fully relate to his perspective. Truly great artist.
amazing!! I played with my band Grieving sun at wow hall back in 2007 it was awesome we made some amazing friends in eugene back when I was living in pdx., Great Doc Mike very cool guy
Hey Mike, Funny how similar your story is to me. I was down here in medford, and music was the only way i got through it. Fortunately, ashland had a pretty good scene, and there were lots of good places to play. We opened for Nomeansno in an orchard cold storage unit and saw Green river play in a basement over in ashland in 87. It was a moment that changed me forever. Keep on keeping on. Good health to you.
Revolver I have so much respect for all of your work, only recently discovered this channel with the Marrow acoustic video, I send love for what you do and to YOB
The punk scene was just as ridiculous , love YOB, my school experience was alot the same, I was crazy because they said I was, I skated and that was my life, ministry was my band
I love the fact that on their other side of the Pacific there's Mike, getting inspiration from seeing its waves (I guess)

Beautiful & very well done. Blessings to Mike & Crew. Amazing the differences between PDX & Eurgene, & yet the similarities of groning up through the insanity of the 80´s. See you all on tour! ;)
Duran Duran, really? Wild Boys as one of my first singles. I was about 13 or 14. Gotta admid I wasnt proud that this was my first single. Like the dark new wave though. Great episode. Love Yob. I got into them when Unreal came out. Saw then 3 times at Roadburn here in Holland. So good. Almost cried. Looking forward to pt 2.
Their music is like sacrificing a werewolf to find the soul of a wolf and ripping out your eyes and replace it with said soul to time travel via genetic line and feeling the great grandfathers blood in this planet that was the first to have a breath in infinity
You don’t have to be a “genius” (whatever that is) to find happiness, fulfillment and peace of mind. Find something you’re passionate about and work your ass off doing it. Once you build a reputation for loving what you do and being even halfway good at it, in all likelihood, people will be willing to pay you to do it. And always look to keep moving forward. It’s about the journey, not the destination.
I should've stayed in the path of art and creativity. I don't regret all the other paths, but I got a long way away from what is prevalent in me. Life, huh?
Fucking love YOB,great video. I always thought Mike would be a cool dude to just hang out with and shoot the shit with for awhile. I’ll also add that he’s entirely right about how the scene is today. Growing up in the late eighties and early nineties you could have your ass kicked just for having long hair or wearing a metal band shirt. It’s sad that a lot of folks in the scene today hate on other metalheads and bands too. It’s a much different time now than it was then that’s for sure.
(Bell Witch) They had to cancel last night due to health problems. Also the Springfield he mentioned is the actual place The Simpsons take place in aka the home of Matt G.
I caught YOB and Bell Witch in Little Rock in June. It was supposed to be in a tiny bar but moved to a bigger club. It would have been cooler to see them both in a tiny box where you can feel every hit of the drums, but they were both great.

You've been blessed by The Mike, incredible and beautiful story 🙏💜
YOB is one of the most important bands of our time.
True.
Damn, Mike's Mom is amazing!
Yob is Love. Thank you for this video.
F yes to you and F yes to Mike.
Yob is indeed love.

What an awesome mom! Accepting and supportive!!

Most of its bullshit.
Steve Von Till is a school teacher too.

Our Raw Heart is the album of the year 💜
I think i'd say the new one from Eagle Twin myself.
mrmanback Yob then SLEEP then Dopethrone
They can all be tied for Album of the Year! That new Sleep is also amazing!!!
Oh definitely. That album is the epitome of what stoner/doom is trying to accomplish.
Yob is love,SLEEP is power, Dopethrone is wisdom
Lost count of how many times I’ve come back and watched this. Mike is my spiritual animal!🙏🏻🕉
One of a kind. YOB is a beautiful band.

A gentleman who I shall likely never meet, though his work changed my life for the better. The magnitude of YOB cannot be overstated.✨🙏✨
I bloody well love yob.
Mike Sheidt is an inspirational hero to me lately
So glad they’ve landed in my window sill.
Best band for absolutely ages.
This whole first part was so amazing but seeing Mike sitting there alone on the stage, chatting with his fans gave me the ultra chills and tears.
killer video, YOB rules. So heavy.
YOB gives us hope. WE LOVE YOU.
Great perspective on life. Very uplifting.
Oregon is gorgeous looking - surreal, like his music
Mike seems like a great guy...he's also a great musician 😊
Crack the Skye is my fav album of all time any artist any genre. :)
He's one of the nicest dudes you'll ever meet.
He's near to be a kind of American Doom Bouddha I swear. All made of love and music.
Im just now 53 yrs old and went the same thing in small Kentucky town may God bless you Mike
This really shows how quick the educational system is to give up up on individuals. It's a damn shame. I was the same way. They gave up on me but I made it throw and am thriving. Love Mike, love Yob.
Sick. Respect to Mike.
These new Revolver features are absolutely fantastic. Great direction and insight.
made me want to play the guitar again. love YOB!
Love how he's chatting with the kids at the end. Great guy!
Caught the Montreal show a week ago, great show, they blew the power in the club.
What an honest and truly formed human being Mike is.
I also nearly died around the same time he did, so I can fully relate to his perspective.
Truly great artist.
YOB is life!!!
This made me super happy. Yey Mile! Yey Mike's mom! I have been through similar issues with our son and it is good to see how her support WON!
Yob will always be one of my favorite bands.
Nice vid, the drone shots were nice too
How on earth did someone actually give this a thumbs down?!
d00mwizard's dungeon Cuz there always has to be a dick. 🐳
I've noticed that I've done it before by mistake. The touch screen is only so big, millions of people, mistakes will be made.
They were the bullies
@@mattymcmattamus This is the only explanation to the thumbs down.
I’m glad the Wow hall getting some respect. I saw you when you opened for Tool 2014 and they blew it away.
amazing!! I played with my band Grieving sun at wow hall back in 2007 it was awesome we made some amazing friends in eugene back when I was living in pdx., Great Doc Mike very cool guy
His mom seems so lovely!

What a wholesome legend.
An actual artist, thank the stars.
Revolver I have so much respect for all of your work, only recently discovered this channel with the Marrow acoustic video, I send love for what you do and to YOB
Man, saw Yob and Alderbran opening for High on Fire in 02 or 03 in Portland. Can never forget that show
Wonderful video. And that he mentioned New Order and Depeche is just awesome.
Amazing band, amazing film, amazing outlook.
This is an incredible documentary/video.
The punk scene was just as ridiculous , love YOB, my school experience was alot the same, I was crazy because they said I was, I skated and that was my life, ministry was my band

Mike is the best
I wish these guys would be invite to play a major festival like download festival in the uk
What's the track called that they're playing at 1:23? This is the first I've heard of YOB. Thanks in advance!
Never mind, figured it out: Our Raw Heart for anyone else wondering.
Well, if ya ever want to stop by, feel free Mike ;-)
Their music is like sacrificing a werewolf to find the soul of a wolf and ripping out your eyes and replace it with said soul to time travel via genetic line and feeling the great grandfathers blood in this planet that was the first to have a breath in infinity
Yob needs to play at the wow hall again
Tears came to my eyes when Mikes mother started talking because I can relate to that. Not the genius thing though haha.

Mike is right, NoMeansNo played the WoW Hall frequently. I saw them there circa 2000. YOB rules. Nice video.
Where is part 3? This is very good but there is no communication on when the third part will be released
If I had to choose a place to move from Italy in US, I will be Eugene, really beautiful place
so good! where is episode 2??
The town is Eugene which is nowhere near the coast, but there are quite a few shots of the ocean. Please explain
What was the song they used for the credits? Holy cow
amazing
RELEASE THE REST
inspirational! #onelove

Love YOB, love their music 🤘🤘... but...lol, mike looked like Wolowitz from big bang theory when he was young! 🤣🤘
I love how Mike wears 2 different True Widow t shirts in this piece. Dude is nothing if not legit.
That High School haircut is pure gold hahahahahahaha
when is P2 coming??
he looks like burke shelley of budgie
More like Wolowitz from big bang theory when he was young...lol
I had the same experiences, in the early-to-mid 80s, in the deep South. Though I'm an idiot and not a savant.
Me too Bro Me too😊
Being funny goes a long way lol :)

shoutout to that mumzee
I liked how his mom was talking about how athletes are highly accepted in our society and artists are not so much
Parallel life paths! 💓
Except my mom wasn't nearly as supportive. Oh well! Made no difference to me.
oh man is he wearing a true widow shirt that's sick
🙏 💙
His mom is Lucy from The Lost Boys. Coolest mom.
(Bell Witch) They had to cancel last night due to health problems. Also the Springfield he mentioned is the actual place The Simpsons take place in aka the home of Matt G.
I thought it was just Bell Witch that cancelled?
Yeah it was Bell Witch. Heavy Temple jumped on the bill last minute. Excellent show.
Nah dude that's Springfield Illinois, not Oregon. There's like 1090000000 Springfields in the U.S.
Matt Groening is from Oregon...it's well known that it's about Springfield OR...
I caught YOB and Bell Witch in Little Rock in June. It was supposed to be in a tiny bar but moved to a bigger club. It would have been cooler to see them both in a tiny box where you can feel every hit of the drums, but they were both great.
HAILS! Support metal.
Go to shows. Buy record's!
