Maybe I still have a lot to learn but I'm not a huge fan of the Strava routing functions. If I find a saved route that I want to edit, I have not yet found a way to remove a road for me to use an almost parallel road. Also, when riding, voice notifications for turning would allow me to keep my screen off and save my battery. This would be nice for me. If the app won't do that the second best option, that is also missing, is a dialog at the top of the screen saying "Left on Main Street" instead of displaying the name of my ride. My 3rd annoyance, that is closely related to my second, is that I don't always have the road that I traveled behind me in the diagram. Yeah, I can touch the North compass feature, when it shows intermittently, but still it doesn't put the road behind me often. Needless to say, I don't like this app but I don't yet know what is better.

Yes. The draw feature is only on premium

Can you save someone’s route, edit it and just save a portion of that route?

I believe you would be able to save it, not sure about editing once there, might be better to get the .gpx and use another routing app like mapmyride or ridewithgps

I am a paid subscriber and I have created a new route.
If I share my new route to my Strava friends, will they be able to follow my route without becoming a paid subscriber?

I believe so yes but for sure if you export your route to GPX then they can upload that file directly to thier wahoo or GARMIN apps and then they can skip Strava altogether for the route

Where do I find saved routes, after I create one?
I have created, named and saved a test route, but I don’t know where to find it. It is not under routes, that I see.
Never mind: routes I created are under ‘dashboard’, ‘my routes’.

Does Strava avoid major highways etc or does it just route fastest way possible? Is it somehow using metrics to choose safer biking paths/roads?

Yes, it routes with the "heatmap" info running in the background. My expertioence is that it does a fantastic job of keeping me off crazy busy roads.

@@BrianDavisracesI wish it had an option to select or identify roads by the speed limit on the roads. I drove a route I planned and found out there were 45mph roads with no shoulder. I would much prefer back roads with 45mph or less speed limits which are not as heavily trafficked with cars.
Also, I’m looking for a way to preview routes, virtually, so I don’t have to drive it to feel comfortable. Something like Google maps street view. Not there yet …

These are great ideas! I’d love both these
