    We really want to visit Taiwan, never really heard anybody say they didn't like it there which makes us think it could definitely be a contender for one of our favourite destinations! 😍😁

    • @Babewheresmypassport
      @Babewheresmypassport  5 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      Yes, we think so. As far as countries in Asia go this one might be our fav! That is a huge statement but we really enjoyed our time in Taiwan 😃. It's like a mix of China and Japan. It is also a good place to combine with other countries (flights wise).

      @@Babewheresmypassport It's like a mix of China and Japan. Yes,I agree. But, more Japan than China.

    I know your usually part of a tour, but hope you can experience the hospitality and friendliness of Taiwanese people. For instance, if you open up a map in the subway station, someone will come and help you right away.
    I think this is the most precious part about Taiwan, the kindness to strangers, the warmth and friendliness.

    The true history is that Japanese did not tear down a lot of Taiwanese temples. Actually a lot of Taiwanese temples were renovated during the time because Taiwanese started to get more money for better looking temples. The temples renovated during the time usually had two Japanese style stone lanterns in front of them as shown in the video. However, by the look of the temple it was renovated again in the recent years. It lost the ancient feel. The lanterns look old from Japanese era.
    Japanese built a lot of Japanese shrines during the time. After 1945, most of them were torn down by the Chinese Nationalist government from China in 1970s, but not by Taiwanese people(Taiwanese were assimilated by Japanese towards the end of Japanese rule, so Taiwanese did no hate Japanese). It was the new Chinese government from Chinese Mainland that fought war with Japan and hated Japan. The Chinese replaced the shrines with Northern China style temples instead of Taiwanese style because they want to prove that they are the true China.

    Thank you very much for saying falling in love with Taiwan. Especially from someone who travels around the world and has been to so many nice places. I was born in Taiwan but I live abroad now. I really miss Taiwan and will go back there when my grandsons grow up and don’t need me anymore.
    Not just because Taiwan is fun and convenient and a lot pretty places, also the people are nice, most important, they have the best health insurance in the world according to CEO world, or at least top five according to PBS.

    Welcome to Taiwan. You are from Britain, aren't you ? You are right that long ago, there were 9 families living there and it used to be a gold mine there. People generally enter and leave a temple through a side door and aren't supposed to stamp on the threshold but l have never heard that males should enter a temple with left foot first while females with the right first and most of the temples don't seem to have a regulation that you enter the temple through right gate and leave through the left only. Japanese did ruled Taiwan for 50 years but their shrines were generally built in the places where there were no Taiwanese tample so that few temples were torn down to give ways to Japanese temples. You might have told some cases but those were not common in Taiwan.

      And there will be law of drone licensing, registered, certification and insurance,it will be effective after 2020, Mar 31。
      To my memory, drone is prohibited to fly near tower 101, too。

    Your tour company didn't take you in the actual gold mine? There's actually a mine you can walk through... Not the one in your video... Also, they didn't take you to the famous old tea shop? It's really beautiful and old...

      Really? It was quite up the mountain, we would've never found it by ourselves lol. Like it Formosa (bit.ly/2Qfw44B) guided us around and it was amazing. We only walked through the touristy streets to get to the back streets.

      Not sure, Taiwan is a mix of Chinese and Japanese influences so perhaps that's why lol
