    Why not save two thirds of that (or more) simply installing a manually programmable thermostat? No GPS, no fancy display, and no phone needed. Program it, forget about it. Never touch it again. This video simply highlights invented needs. Richard, you're starting to disappoint.

    I've been in the HVAC field for over 30 years. That GPS crap is an expensive toy. Somehow people can operate a smartphone but they can't operate a basic thermostat. If your too stupid to program a standard digital thermostat once (because thats all it takes) you should never leave the house. I don't want my air conditioning system to come on in the middle of the day if I come home. That doesn't save me money at all. Keeping the system sit at a warmer setting all day long until the evening then having it cool down saves your money.

      You can't have that same argument with a Honeywell thermostat. Honeywell has been around for years and they have several great smart thermostats too

  • @jpe1
    @jpe1 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Does the Lyric support cold temperature lockout for heat pump? I replaced a nice Honeywell programmable thermostat with a Savant-branded thermostat (so my Savant smart home control could talk to the thermostats) and unfortunately the Savant smart thermostat is a huge step *backwards.*
    Yes, it supports geofencing but it doesn’t support locking out the heat pump (thus using my oil burner backup) in very cold weather. My old thermostat had an outdoor temperature probe and used that not only to lock out the heat pump in very cold weather, but also to anticipate when to turn on the heat so it would be able to warm up to the desired temperature at the programmed time without kicking in the oil burner if it *wasn’t* needed. Same thing for the A/C in the summer, it would bring the house down to 78°F by 5pm, starting at whatever time was needed based on temperature. Geofencing sounds nice but having the A/C turn on only once I arrived home isn’t very useful, the house will be hot; the A/C needs to start before I arrive and GPS alone isn’t going to make that happen. I suspect the Lyric has the same shortcomings.
