    I tried to take my scooter into Walmart in Edmonton, and they told me I had to leave it outside. Few stores allow bikes and scooters inside. I find ebikes have more practical purpose and greater versatility. I can load stuff on a bike, and I can use it during winter without having to worry about the cold draining the battery and leaving me stranded. Ebikes are better on slick surfaces, and with fat tires, you don't need suspension on rough terrain. Scooters are great for leisure, but if you're looking for something that isn't seasonal and can do more than go from one place to another, an ebike is the way to go.

      Sorry to hear that the Walmart didn't let you in with the scooter...very odd, I've not been refused before ....maybe email the manager or go and speak with the manager and explain that you'd like the scooter to be there when you come out :)

      @gunstargizmo ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TimsElectric They let me keep it inside the main doors, but not the store itself. I've never seen anyone in the store with anything other than a mobility scooter. The scooter was only 22kgs so someone could just lift it from inside since there's no where to secure it. Now I have a 41kg ebike that needs to be carried to steal. Still, I'd never leave my scooter or bike alone for longer than 15mins.

    I'm choosing an ebike over an electric because I'm planning on using it as my daily driver for in city stuff. While I'll have to buy multiple locks and chains to secure it, I'll be able to go to doctor appointments, buy groceries from stores, and travel around on a vehicle that I'm more familiar with.
    I currently don't have a car and the used car market is horrible right now, so ebike is the best choice for me. I've been walking around town, getting driven by family/friends if the walk is over 3 miles, and taking Uber instead, but that has been much cheaper for me than buying a car. I think an ebike will allow me to travel easier without having to pay from expensive insurance+ maintenance.
    I bought a RadWagon 4 a couple days back after scouring the internet for an affordable ecargo bike and I hope that it will fulfill my needs as a daily commute ebike and a bike I can use to buy groceries and other goods.

    great video Tim, I have a one wheel electric board, glad I brought this over an electric skate board, it's not for commuting, the fun factor you said about the scooter and the smile on your face is exactly what I get from the one wheel pint, also portability into coffee shops is great. I ride distances on a pushbike, not electric, but am getting the EV bug and want more. I read the comments below, looks like unless you're commuting long distances ( these days the Merth RS pro can do 80 to 100 kays so I don't think distance is even an issue now) both will do the job, but most comments below are highly in favour of the scooters, fun factor, cheaper and portability appear to win the race. You made the choice much easier. Thanks Mate. Ken. Australia

    With an electric bike you can build up your cardio very slowly. Eventually the range increases dramatically. People e-scooter for very short distances. Usually distances they could walk easily. I admit I have little love for the e-scooter. But it's also more light vehicle on the road and actually encourages authorities to imagine a different kind of urbanism.

    I wanted to add, that, since the freight is also half of the motive power on ebikes, the range for one with a similar battery to scooter is 2-3 times longer (there are some scooters with massive batteries out there...if you are willing to shell out a few thousand bucks 😉)

    Ebikes are better if you care more about distance and power.
    Escooters are better if you care more about mobility.
    I own an ebike and escooter. I use my ebike when I have to go anything over 5 miles in distance and need to get some place quickly. However, for short trips to the store, I use my escooter. Also I prefer to use my escooter if i'm going to visit someone so I can easily fold it up.

      @@TimsElectric depends on the scooter you're using. I cannot see myself realistically riding an escooter faster than 20 mph (otherwise it feels unsafe) and to do anything close to what you can do on a bike. I feel safe riding an ebike up to 40 mph, can offroad an ebike, and can do stunts that escooters would struggle to do because of the small wheels. Hey Tim,
    I have always wondered on the durability of e-scooters. I haven't had the experience, but one can just imagine that with tiny wheels on a stiff platform and no suspension system, the structure couldn't last long. Am I right?
    Then, with the pedal assistance, the batteries from e-bikes should require less frequent charging cycles and last longer. Being many times the battery 50% of the cost of the e-scooter or 30% of the cost of the e-bike. Is this correct?
    I have been using a regular bike for commuting (8 miles each way), and I'm thinking on turning it electric for less effort.

    • @TimsElectric
      @TimsElectric  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      you're logic is sound :)
      however the timeline might be off.
      Let me explain.
      I have scooters that have 3000 K and more on them..no issues at all.
      So I expect them to wear out faster than an ebike but it might take years...time will tell :)
      On a side note...once you've tried an ebike or electric scooter....riding a regular bike will seem like a chore.
      It's odd...with a regular bike it always seemed like the wind was against me both ways and the hills were steep each way lol
      but with these units...it's like surfing :) love it :)

    I just bought a Splach Titan and couldn't wait for it to arrive. On my first ride, I was stunned by how hard it was to get used to. Specifically, the throttle, brakes, and stability. For the throttle, I mean, you barely squeeze the trigger and ZOOM, off it goes, even in single mode. I live in a hilly area and the first time I went down a hill I was staggered when the regen brakes kicked in. Like the throttle, the power onset is not gradual at all. Now, when I go downhill, I start braking and keep the brakes on during the whole decent. Another feature where I live is roundabouts. With no turn signals and added instability by riding with one hand using the other to signal, there is no way I'm going to attempt to navigate a roundabout. So, I wind up pushing the scooter around until my exit. For me at least, any fun factor is pretty much completely mitigated by the fear factor. Anyone wanna buy a slightly used Splach Titan 10? 🙂

    Ebikes are healthier as they are a form of semi active transportation in which one can get doctor recommended aerobic exercise on but Escooters have a place for micro mobility as they can often be taken into offices and many times doctor offices. I do have a nearby large grocery store (a Fred Meyer store) that permits me to take my ebike right into the store and use it just like a shopping cart but they probably permit me to do so as I am elderly (age 65) and disabled physically (heart patient with COPD).
    Personally I own two ebikes (one designed specifically for riding in rainy weather without me getting wet at all and another one for good weather conditions).
    I am looking at getting a Escooter when I have the funds for one.

They throw over your shoulder to go anywhere with you, require very little energy to move you further and faster tha nwalking, but are incredibly nimble and can be stopped on a dime. ive in san francisco and have bicycles, motor scooters (gas and electric) and have used e-skateboards and a bunch of other small mobility devices. the unpowered kick scooter gets the most use.

    Oh I picked scooter over ebike why? Before the e bike came I had a regular bike. Keep the story short my bike got stolen TWICE that's 2 bikes!! There's where I lost my interest on them and move to scooters. The BIGGEST PROBLEM with ebike nowadays they get stolen very easily you can't even leave it there for more than 1hrs. The BIGGEST advantage of scooters is they're HARDER to steal you need a key plus a card also lock it with your cellphone with GPS and you can remove your batteries. Also scooters needs a instructions manual to start. Something bike thief just cannot do manually on bike dedal HAHAHA! Also if your car broke down you can use your scooter a bike just cannot do that. Because they don't fit in the trunk of the car. Also if I want to work out exercise i just go to gym with my scooter. If you leave your ebike outside the gym for JUST more than 1hr most likely will get stolen. Oh my scooter is MERCANE MX60 is for heavy folks and waterproof.

    We purchased this Vivi 27.5” electric bike and a Tentaquil 26” electric bike for our 13 and 14 year olds. th-cam.com/users/postUgkxUiL0GnyDjP32RJdd660sP8mZk4CRLTCJ The Vivi was much easier to put together. With the Vivi, there was a video link to assist with assembly which made the process easier to follow (we did put the handlebars on upside down, but it was a quick and easy fix). With the Tentaquil, the assembly was not as simple to follow, but after we messaged the company for an assembly video, it was easier and they did respond quickly. The other major differences were that the Vivi has a grip throttle on the right handle (like a motorcycle) and the Tentaquil has a push throttle that you use your thumb to activate. The monitors were also different, so if you’re looking for something specific in terms of changing the bikes functions, pay attention to what the monitor offers. We were really impressed with the overall quality and functionality of both bikes, but if you’re looking for more power and an easier assembly, definitely go with the Vivi!
