I think people pay more attention to non verbal communication than the verbal ones. So if you say you are not ready for a relationship but the signs - the hugging, late calls and long calls - seems to depict otherwise, it can sends mixed signals even when that is not the intention.

At the end of the day it boils down to individuality. Some can make it work and some cannot. I met my husband at work. Personal and work life was separate from day 1. We were in the same office for about 4 years before he got transferred. I would say it is working for us.
