And you didn't know about the dolls? Gosh, you must not have read many comic books at the time then either; those dolls were advertised continually for years in the things. Well, at least in the comics *I* read, which were mostly from a now obscure company called Gold Key rather than DC or Marvel.
@@jasontoddman7265 Thank for everything you have mentioned. I honestly appreciate this and I bow to your expert knowledge. As a fan of Space 1999, yes I know of the Serial Killer. That annoying little fellow ruined a show we genuinely loved. What a pillock. At least we still have the Eagles, Alan Carter and the first series to keep us going. "Bringers of Wonder" was one good thing to come out of Series 2. When an episode titled "Luton" came out, that killed 1999. Luton Airport was the punchline to a very successful ad campaign. There were comics as well? Bloody hell, The 6 Million Dollar Man must have been all over the Shop in North America. Marvel and DC were not widely known in GB (Now the UK), at least not with children. The Top selling comics of that era were still The Beano and The Dandy. They were overtaken by Commando and Battlefield as the decade moved on. 2000AD was a game changer. Ultra violent images became a concern for parents and a joy for children. Superman was unknown to us until 1978. Batman was a short lived gay romp. North American cultural phenomenon are not not Global cultural phenomenon. I didn't encounter a McDonalds until the 1990s. Now the vile eateries are everywhere. What was all the fuss about KFC? When one opened up about 12 miles from my home in the late 1990s, it closed down soon after. In the early 1970s Spaghetti Bolognaise replaced Fish & Chips for a while. Now its the eponymous Ruby Murray that takes top spot. Chinese Take-Aways keep lingering on, but the quality is poor. Pizzas have dropped off a cliff. I experience a lot of negative comments when I ask questions on "Weird History Food". I must be stupid for not seeing Campbells soup for sale. Am I blind? Its in every store in America!. (Every Store in America doing a lot of heavy lifting there. I think Campbells was banned, due to its non-food content). Thank you. I honestly appreciate your kind words. My very best wishes to you and all the best to you and yours. Cheers.
I remember my brother and I watching this tv show. We thought it was real lol!! I myself love this show as well as the bionic woman. My brother had the six million dollar action figure and I had the bionic woman action figure! 😊
Neither had I. The show introduced me to the Sasquatch. Which I used judiciously during my adolescent name calling years. Wait...come to think of it, I still do.
I'm OLD ! So, this show was my jam back in the day. I loved it. The best episode was the one with Bigfoot as a cliffhanger. But, they ruined it with Bigfoot was an android. Even as a kid I was so ticked off and thought it was ridiculous. Bigfoot sure. But a robot bigfoot, no way. I always wanted a bionic eye. The sound effects were great, especially the slow motion jumps.
I've read the novels, and they are very different from the TV show. Even though I love the show, I would also love seeing a faithful adaption of the novels.
I remember seeing this channel about 6-7 years ago and thought. “This guy….. really? …” 6-7 years later and I’ve never missed a video and I’ve seen the channel go from strength to strength! Good on ya Minty! 💪🏻
I have the complete box set sitting on my shelf as I type. Watched the whole thing, brought back a lot of great memories. One of my favorites is the bionic kid, the one with the wheelchair teen that gets bionics and malfunctions.
Legendary professional wrestler "Stone Cold" Steve Austin stated before in his WWE Hall of Fame induction speech that he was inspired to use the ring name "Steve Austin" because of the show.
3:16 ~ Minty! How could you not mention that the original choice would later return in two separate episodes as the Seven Million Dollar man. Where all four of his limbs had to be replaced. However, he couldn't deal with his new-found powers and soon was corrupted by his abilities. In the end, his bionics were permanently switched off. But he got to keep his limbs. I think more could have been done with the character.
I loved the Six Million Dollar Man show when I was a Kid. Jamie Sommers was my first TV crush, followed shortly thereafter by Kristy McNichol. Anyway, I had the Six Million Dollar Man doll along with my Evil Knievel doll/wind-up motorcycle and the Six Million Dollar man lunch box, followed thereafter by a Planet of the Apes lunch box. I think my favorite episodes, aside from the Bionic Woman ones, were the Big Foot episodes. Those are all good memories.
I loved my Evil Knievel wind up motorcycle. It was awesome how the motorcycle shot off the end stick that it was attached too after winding it up. I had so much fun with it when I was six
I was a preteen when this show came out in `73 and LOVED it. I remember my best friend and I having "bionic fights," where we'd pretend to fight...in slow motion, of course. I also had the doll and the Bionic Transport and Repair Station you show in the vid. In fact, I think I still have both somewhere in the back of my attic!
@@billcook4768We did… or rather we tried. Not so easy to make that sound just with your mouth, so it end up sounding more like “tick, tock tock tock…” It was the best a couple of 10-year old boys could do. 😂
There is ANOTHER professional wrestling connection besides Andre the Giant portraying Bigfoot. The iconic Stone Cold Steve Austin. No he did not appear in the show or movies BUT the SMDM character name was accidentally used by the wrestler Steve Austin. Based on interviews Ive listened to, the wrestler's real name is Steve Williams and is from Victoria, TX. In his professional debuting days, he started out using his actual name Steve Williams. But both him and wrestler-booker Dutch Mantell said there is already a established wrestler from Oklahoma with the name Steve "Dr. Death" Williams. Dutch Mantell told Steve Williams to come up with another name by his next match. Williams said he had not figured out one. Mantell said he immediately changed him to Steve Austin (using the city and capitol of Texas since Williams was from TX). Williams questioned this since the name is also used for the character six million dollar man Colonel Steve Austin. Mantell challenged him to come up with another name. But Williams couldnt. So he remained the now changed to Steve Austin.
Interestingly enough, Alan Oppenheimer actually played the voice of Dr. Amadeus Sharpe on the Bionic Six. He's the one who designed the bionics for the Six and rebuilt them after an avalanche injured them all except Bionic One, sort of a pastiche to Rudy Wells. In a sense then, Bionic Six could really be considered a spiritual sequel to The Six Million Dollar Man.
Get a movie reboot done already! Then in a sequel, we learn that Steve Austin was rebuilt using tech from Cyberdyne...you know where I'm going with this, don't you?
@@alexhickenbottom2820 yeah like I said 6 million dollars wouldn't be nearly enough to make a bionic person because 43 million would not remotely be close enough in todays money. The amount of money to turn a person into essentially the Terminator would cost billions.
Hell, I remember when that was on TV. Everyone at my school loved it. God knows what the teachers made of it with all the kids pretending to run in slow motion while they sung the programmes theme song, or trying our best to jump in slow motion while going "Duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh!" or "Do-do-do-do-do!" They must've thought we'd all lost our minds at first before they got clued in. Everyone in the school wanted to be bionic like Steve Austin, forgetting that they'd have to suffer a horrific accident that'd inflict terrible physical injuries on them first. The thought never bothered anyone even a bit, "Hey, sure you can cut off my legs of and replace them with experimental prosthetics! Go right ahead. Do my arms too while you're about it!" If they were to remake it I think Ryan Gosling would be a good choice for Steve, he has that Lee Majors charm and charisma. And, no matter how tempting, it shouldn't be campy or played for laughs. The original novel was quite dark and gritty so playing it closer to the book would be great.
@midnightmosesuk, yeah, I really miss the days when kids would be talking about what was on TV & in the movies. I think my generation was one of the last to do that. Nowadays, sadly, the kids are only interested in playing on their phones, or talking about Facebook posts, or other various Social media BS trends.

Great channel. My favorite videos are the ones where you have an obvious long-time love of the movie or show. You can feel the enthusiasm. I'm an oldie from the U.S.A., and I can remember when a lot of the shows referenced aired. I can't help but want to mention that one was Laverne & Shirley (not Levine & Shirley, i.e. not leh-VEEN), and another was The Mod Squad (as in "modern", not The Mob Squad, as in "mobster"). Keep the great content coming, though.
Six Million Dollar Man and Bionic Woman would have made an interesting crossover with The Incredible Hulk TV series or maybe with Knight Rider. There can always be a comic book at least
Yo Minty, another fantastic video of one of my favourite shows while growing up in the 70's thank you. But you've forgot another important info about the show. You mentioned Monty Markham was originally to be cast as Steve Austin before Lee Majors got the role. But Monty did play a bionic man in the later episodes of Six Million Dollar Man as "The Seven Million Dollar Man" & you also failed to mention the lovely Stefanie powers is one of the celebrity guests on the show, who was the alien scientist who created Big Foot. Brilliant video. Junior From London 😍👍🏿🇬🇧🇬🇧🇯🇲🇯🇲
Henry Cavill as Steve Austin, Elizabeth Olsen as Jaime Sommers and an older distinguished suit & tie guy type like Andy Serkis as Oscar Goldman. That would make money in the box office, I'd watch it.
That's funny, the actor you showed who was almost cast as the six million dollar man was on an episode titled the seven million dollar man, he was given bionics but began using his powers for selfish reasons and he and Steve had to face off, they ended up taking his powers away.
My parents watched the Six Million Dollar Man and one of my earliest TV memories I have is vague memory of seeing Steve lifting a bar bell over his head with one hand. I have seen a few episodes since then. I'll have to check out those books.
@DynamixWarePro, my 2 earliest tv memories are seeing the "go to the head of the class" episode of Amazing Stories, & a vague memory of an episode of MacGyver, where he was wearing some kinda gas mask. I only remember it, cause it freaked me out, how he looked in the mask & all, lol. Also, the above mentioned Amazing Stories episode, scared the crap outta me, lol.

You have expanded my knowledge of a foreign country's perception of what constitutes "The World". I would be crying, if it wasn't so funny. My very best wishes to you and all the best to you and yours. Cheers.
Good Morning Minty, cool video as always, you take care and have a nice day sir
Awesome 👍
I remember my brother and I watching this tv show. We thought it was real lol!! I myself love this show as well as the bionic woman. My brother had the six million dollar action figure and I had the bionic woman action figure! 😊
Bionic woman, six million dollar man, incredible hulk greatest shows ever!
Amen back when hollywood had vision and imagination. Now 90 percent of TV are shit show like the Bachwhore and the bachwhorelette.
I had not even heard of the legendary Bigfoot creature until watching the iconic episode The Secret of Bigfoot.
LMAO, yeah, that iconic slow motion jumping sound has been parodied so many times!! 😂😂😂
Probably the first crossover show I can remember. Anyway, the show was sci fi. He had to be a robot.
lol-depressing soap Eastenders. Correct Minty!
YEAH.. THE SOUND EFFECTS FOR THE bionics is what i liked best about the show.
"Gentlemen, we can rebuild him. Faster. . . stronger . . better than before!"
I've read the novels, and they are very different from the TV show. Even though I love the show, I would also love seeing a faithful adaption of the novels.
Caidin's novel Aquarius Mission is a decent story, as well.
I actually felt weird thinking the pilot may have died!
I went back over old TV shows I watched as a kid to see which ones still held up. “The Six Million Dollar Man” is still pretty entertaining.
That was my show my favorite and no one can replace the original characters.
I remember seeing this channel about 6-7 years ago and thought. “This guy….. really? …”
6-7 years later and I’ve never missed a video and I’ve seen the channel go from strength to strength!
Good on ya Minty! 💪🏻
I was among those who envied other kids who got Six Million Dollar Man tin lunchboxes. Steve fighting the space probes are among my favorite episodes.
Yeah the Russian Venus probe episode was a memorable classic.
I have the complete box set sitting on my shelf as I type. Watched the whole thing, brought back a lot of great memories. One of my favorites is the bionic kid, the one with the wheelchair teen that gets bionics and malfunctions.
Never heard of the Bionic six
Absolutely loved the six-million-dollar man and the bionic woman.
Legendary professional wrestler "Stone Cold" Steve Austin stated before in his WWE Hall of Fame induction speech that he was inspired to use the ring name "Steve Austin" because of the show.
I grew up on these two shows and loved them. Speaking of love, I definitely loved all of the funky 70's themed music in this episode.
Monte Markham. That scenario was repeated on the Incredible Hulk with an evil Hulk.
Harrison Ford as Steve Austin and Sandra Bullock as Jamie Somers !?!
Thank you for this episode Minty.❤
Terminator Dark Fate was basically the Bionic Woman vs Terminator, she even does that iconic jump in the factory scene
But did she go d,d,d,d,d...oooooohh 😂
I was a preteen when this show came out in `73 and LOVED it. I remember my best friend and I having "bionic fights," where we'd pretend to fight...in slow motion, of course. I also had the doll and the Bionic Transport and Repair Station you show in the vid. In fact, I think I still have both somewhere in the back of my attic!
But did you make the “bionic noise.” It doesn’t count without the noise.
@@billcook4768We did… or rather we tried. Not so easy to make that sound just with your mouth, so it end up sounding more like “tick, tock tock tock…” It was the best a couple of 10-year old boys could do. 😂
You should have mentioned how Steve and Bigfoot showed up in The Venture Brothers!
Lol, yeah, I remember that!! It had Steve & Bigfoot in a sexual relationship, LMAO!!
Always a good day when Minty posts
in the US, 6 million dollars barely gets you a week in hospital, nowadays.
Good old privatized healthcare! Number one reason why I am glad I don’t live in America!
That might pay for a bionic finger today, lol.
Yeah, that should've been a bonus factoid, in this episode.
Minty look up the stories of Andre’s order at Waffle House especially as told by Ron Fuller Welch.
Leveen and Shirley??? 😂
Love you Minty ... keep the awesome videos coming 🙂
Lee Majors went to play Grandpa Max in a Ben 10 live action movie Race Against Time.
to me, Bionic Six was always just Steve in his settling down phase before his wife and kids got buried in an avalanche and had to be converted too.
Minty we need Alien Covenant next 👏😂
Definitely one of my favorite shows when it was released. Use to watch it with my grandma.
Love bonic six i don't know why they don't have that cartoon on any streaming sites
Linseys voice still rings on my ears, icon with Lee.
Great memories
I just can't believe they were naive enough to think it would cost only $6 million to make a bionic man, even in the 70s.
6 million dollars in 1973 when the show debuted would be about 43million dollars in todays money. That was quite a lot back then.
Do my arms too while you're about it!"
If they were to remake it I think Ryan Gosling would be a good choice for Steve, he has that Lee Majors charm and charisma.
Minty, PLEASE DO 10 Things You Didn't Know About Bionic Woman tv series 1976-1978.
Yes PLEASE DO SO, Minty.
The 2 part "Venus Probe" episode was a highlight of my childhood.
Thanks, Minty!
Fun fact Andre the giant holds the world record for the most amount of beer consumed by a person in a single day. I believe it's over 120 beers plus he had wine that day supposedly 2 bottles. Confirmed by multiple eye witnesses
What a great look back at The Six Million Dollar Man and The Bionic Woman!
Bro, I can't believe it's been like 5 or 6 years since I started watching your videos. I used to download a handful of your videos while I was in the navy and watch them while I was out to sea 😂 now I literally watch them while I'm at work. Love your videos, stay golden ponyboy!!!
Wow, so that’s where those die cast action figures I had as a kid were from!.. The Bionic 6.. They were so cool & but couldn’t remember what/where they were about! 😂 I think I still have one left 🤔
Wow, there was a toyline??? How did I miss out on the Bionic Six??? I was watching Saturday morning cartoons, in the late '80s!
For sure! I remember watching those in the 80’s & I looked online, some are selling the figures too! 👍
Thank you for featuring this, Steve Austin was my hero when I was a kid.
I can remember watching both the Bionic Woman and The Six Million Dollar Man on TV as a child. I got Steve, the Crystal Radio Backpack, and the Bionic Repair Transport Christmas in 1976.
I loved bionic six cartoon
Man, I love that show, I grew up with that show. That show came out when I was in the first grade. I used to watch it religiously and I had all the toys..
Go back and experience? I might need a time-machine to do that. I can’t say I’ve ever seen a DVD or Blu-Ray of the show in stores, and I couldn’t begin to guess what streaming service would be carrying it.
The complete series is available on DVD and Bluray on Amazon as well as Walmart. . It is also currently streaming on Peacock
@@Giambijuice - We, I’ll be. Thanks.
11:37 I use to have a Six Million Dollar Man action figure.
Six Million Dollar Man and Bionic Woman would have made an interesting crossover with The Incredible Hulk TV series or maybe with Knight Rider. There can always be a comic book at least
Apples and Oranges. Not to mention 70s and 80s.
Did you just say, “Lavene and Shirley”?
Yes! That is blasphemy and sacrelage!
Hahaha... yeah, I caught that too!
@129stacey, LMAO, yes, it's another one of Minty's infamous & hilarious, mispronunciations!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
The Six Million Dollar Man and The Bionic Woman where the kind of shows that made it so wonderful to be a child in the 70's.
the Odyssey! 1997. Do the Odyssey!
Lou Rawls was a guest star
Few shows piqued my interest like this one. The only fan club I ever belonged to. A all time favorite ❤
Jeff Williams!
Aw man I loved this show as a kid + particularly big foot! Cheers minty! :)
I liked bionic woman better than the six million dollar man....
