Lou Ferrigno's Hulk is still the best live action Hulk, even after all these years. Even though the CGI Hulks look good and are huge, there's something about a real person that allows us to connect more with the character. The emotional parts are especially more touching.
Kichu.......I agree Lou Ferrigno's live action Hulk id the best......... when The 2000's Hulk single Movies and the Hulk in the Avenger movies came out....at first I was suprised they went with the CGI Hulk instead of a Actor playing the Hulk like in the TV series. but the CGI Hulk was fine in the Avengers movies......Bill Bixby was perfect for David Banner.... and in my opinion Mark Ruffalo 's Version of Banner I enjoyed and was 2nd best to play the part.....he reminded me of Bill Bixby and his version of the character...
I'm glad I was a kid when all these shows were on, The Hulk, Wonder Woman, Spider Man, Bionic Woman, Manimal, etc. l know they can be cheesy to watch now but they were great for us much less sophisticated kids of the late seventies.
The Lonely Man….. that piano solo at the end of every episode, as Dr Banner, threw his bag over his shoulder and walked away from another town, in his endless search for the cure….. 😢
They appeared in a dream sequence together when Banner is hypnotised in the 2 parter "Married". There was also an episode where Ferrigno did double duty, as the Hulk but also as a body builder who ran a restaurant Banner was a waiter at, and they shared quite a few scenes together. Also, Lou spoke glowingly of Bixby in his book.
I was gonna say "It's a shame the modern MCU never paid homage to this show", but then I learned Lou was brought back as the Hulk's voice. You were right! I never knew!
I remember when Lou Ferrigno initially auditioned for the part he wasnt quite big enough. After serious work the makers did admit he had incredible bulk after all the hard work in the gym.
The 1970s Incredible Hulk TV series was one of my fave shows growing up. Bill Bixby was perfect as Dr. Banner. It was producer Kenneth Johnson who made the Hulk successful by having the writers come up with themes for each episode. The title tune, "The Lonely Man" , was perfect for the show.
Met Lou Ferigno at Comicon Ottawa in 2023 and then in Montreal. He is a big Star Trek fan! He is really a down to earth person. Great to talk to. He visited ou booth (Klingons). Was great!!!
21. As a young (probably way too young) of a child, this was my favourite show (closely followed by Wonder Woman), however I was banned from watching it after doing my best Hulk impression (most muscular pose and scream) at a checkout girl at the supermarket, causing my mother way too much embarrassment. When in later life I managed to acquire through nefarious means the full series, my Mother still had reservations
I still cannot look at him when he transforms into the Hulk, when he has those contact lenses in. But I liked and still like this Hulk tv-series. Bill Bixby was really good in it as far as I can remember.
No Lou was NOT completely deaf. He’s hearing impaired. His ear infection as a baby and I think no one realized his hearing problem when he was three that took 75-80% of his hearing but he’s not completely deaf. Hearing aides he had don’t work if you’re deaf. He went to a special school as a kid to learn to lip read and speak and of course his speech is different. I admired him because I’m hearing impaired. Years later I read he got a cochlear implant which restored much of his hearing.
I was a huge Ferrigno fan for a while because of his show. In 1979 he came to my city for our auto show. Yeah. He’s big! He didn’t leave until he shook everyone’s hand. There were no autographs. Very light handed I might add too. Even sitting down he was big. My fantasy come true! It didn’t matter only shook his hand like everyone else and then moved on. I had seen my idol at the time and I was on cloud nine. But then of course life interfered and bye bye Lou. As a kid in the 60’s I watched Bill Bixby in My Favorite Martian and he was pretty good in The Courtship of Eddie’s Father. I never missed an episode of The Incredible Hulk when it was first on.
In the episode King Of The Beach, Lou Ferrigno played a different character, so technically he and Bix DID share screen time, and the only time he had a speaking role.
I was a huge fan of this show when it first came out. There was only one episode where his character was a body builder and it was his first and only speaking part. Lou already knew how to talk. Because he’s hard of hearing as a kid having had an ear infection as a kid he used hearing aides, and he was taught to lip read. Have no doubt he may have needed speech therapy to make his speech a little clearer. But it’s not like he never talked before. I first saw him in Pumping Iron and on occasion he spoke. A few years ago he decided to get a cochlear implant.
This was still running on TV when I was a kid I think it ended when I was like 7 or 8 years old Early on I remember being terrified of the hulk I really wish they could make a good hulk TV series but apparently no one's talented enough to do anything with the character/characters
Its said that Ferrigno and Bixby never shared screentime. Wrong. Because in the episode King of the beach Lou not only plays The Hulk. He also plays a hearing impaired bodybuilder which is aided by David Banner.
Great episode. I especially like when Hulk is growling at the crowd and trying to scare them off, but they cheer for him. On the flipside, you see everyone with a camera snapping as many shots as they can, but next episode nobody has ever gotten a photo of Hulk.
Just read, but don’t know if he’s still there, but in 2012 Ferrigno was sworn in as a reserve deputy to the San Obisbo County Sheriff’s Department. His late father Matty was a Police lieutenant in New York. Ferrigno is only 8 years older than me.
Lou is in Wikipedia. I have to credit him for helping me in a way not to feel bad about myself being hearing impaired. And when I got a hearing test in my 40’s I was ecstatic when I was told I have high frequency deafness. It made everything make sense like when I tried being a medical assistant. Without an amplified stethoscope I can’t hear a heartbeat. And when my aides went out because the batteries went could barely hear and got flak from someone when I asked what the last thing the teacher said because couldn’t hear the teacher good enough. What an attitude that person had when I asked for that help until I told her I don’t hear good. Mom was wrong. I was listening but it was hard. And I hated the game Telephone. I couldn’t understand a thing when people whispered in my ear. I had to teach myself how to lip read some letters people say that I can’t distinguish. I don’t use hearing aides anymore. Hearing some sounds for the first time scared me too much. But thanks to Lou being a role model, I’m accepting of my hearing loss and educated a few who became more understanding. Hearing isn’t attached to intelligence. And some think if you don’t hear well you’re a little dim. And there is a difference between hard of hearing and deaf. Big difference. Lou isn’t deaf and he got a cochlear implant years ago. They don’t work if you’re completely deaf. You have to have some hearing.
Lou did have a speaking part in one Hulk episode. Can’t remember the name but he portrayed of course a bodybuilder and I was a bit surprised that he wasn’t half bad. I just can’t remember the episode name it was so long ago. I do however do remember a scene where he was talking to a female character, I think she wanted to be a budding manager and he had a scene where he was upset how people thought he wasn’t too smart because he had a hearing problem. I know the feeling. Used to get that too. I wish I could remember the title of that episode. He was also in the film Pumping Iron. That was the first time I’d ever seen Schwarzenegger.
it did. I wouldn’t exactly call the hulk being a monster just the manifestation of unrestrained anger. Then when the anger cooled the hulk was a little bit childlike. He had a bit of a Neanderthal look.
@@lisanidog8178It was explained in the pilot. The Hulk was an outer primal manifestation of Banner. Hulk won't kill, because Banner won't kill. Hulk only ever attacked in self defence or those who had harmed him or someone he cared about. He never hurt random people and was soft to children and animals. That's why, in "The First", the other Hulk was evil, because the old guy who was the other Hulk was drunk on power. So it manifests the personality of the host.
That was said in the video. Ironically, the Mad Magazine spoof of the show had it directly mentioned by a character while there was a TV behind him announcing Bruce Jenner winning the decathlon. That didn't age quite the way they expected.
Wasn’t wolverine in one one of the movies? I caught the last little bit of one in the 90s and remember wolverine walking away down a beach at the end. He was in the yellow and black costume. I haven’t been able to find the movie anywhere
Bring back practical effects. A CGI Hulk is terrible! Hire a real bodybuilder for the role. It's been alleged that there was supposed to be a sequel after "Death of the Incredible Hulk," That Banner has returned from the dead, but not as Banner himself, but as the Hulk being vocal and able to talk and not roaring with Banner's intelligence.

True, but if they were to stay true to the comics then Hulk would’ve had to live up to his name. No human body builder could have matched it.

Lou was big enough. They wanted a tall actor for the Hulk, hence they got Kiel but he did not have the muscle, so he was let go and Lou was hired.
