Had to pull this with a fencing contractor one time. I told him I expectations, I checked on him and mentioned how important symmetry was to me, and then when I checked his work end of the day, the posts were not in a straight line. Like not even close - like Willy Wonka Swervy. I made him redo it before adding the boards. He was pissed off and decided to go to my mild mannered neighbor who did not care how the fence was made at all but was sharing in the cost of it. But he was "a male". I'm the one who booked the contractor and I'm the one who paid them and essentially I had to pull that card and say look John is not making the decisions here, I am. Do it to my satisfaction or don't get paid. It's that simple. You don't have to like me but you do have to respect me. Asshat
I felt this so hard😂I told my contractor at my last house remodel 6 mos after the promised finish date that any further mansplaining that started with “ what you don’t understand is…, what you don’t realize is… and I’ve got no control over when my subs show up” would not result in a calm and positive outcome for him. I learned to follow every convo with an email just to clarify times, dates and content.
As someone in the construction industry, follow what the client wants but document everything. If it happens that it really is a 'structural thing' then it's the client's faukt and the contractor is not liable to any damages done to the bldg due to the client's request.
I would imagine there’s also a difference between having the conversation before or after doing the work. She says she wanted a window put in the side of the house but he put the window in the back - it sounds like he already did the work without talking to her about the change. Even if he just put the supplies out to work on today and hadn’t actually put the window in yet - it seems like he wasn’t going to tell her or just assumed he would tell her and she wouldn’t ask any questions.
Yup, if it was a structural thing, he should've told it to her in advance. Then gone from there, but the client insists then oh well their fault. But to put make changes without consulting the client, well thats trouble.
If there was a any problem ekthpjtting the window there, you would have already discussed the problem durkng planning, unless you're an id*ot of course. Since my childhood my parents have build and deconstructed a few houses. All those things get resolced and discussed beforehand.
The thing is, when a house is to be built, plans need to be made by an architectural firm. These plans will have the base engineered dimensions and layout of the house. There will be a base construction set of plans guiding the subcontractor, based upon the engineer approved plans, to divy up the ground/foundation work from the framers/carpentry crew, electricians, plumbers, etc as each of these trades peoples needs a set of plans to work from. Construction plans are to differing trades, like sheet music is to an orchestra.....it shows every differing trade comes in does their thing, makes allowances and works together in some situations. So, if she requested a window, that request would have been documented on the plans and approved by the engineer with changes reflecting on the plans. Those signed plans by the engineer and the client are considered contractual. However, an additional contract is always recommended, regardless of the size of the change, because the sub ALWAYS has to initial every change made.
No, it's perfect. Calling someone Sweetie like that is a way to demean them in order to make oneself feel superior. It's all perception. Whereas she already proved she is actually in a superior position so she can call him by whatever name she wishes - her dick is bigger. And by using his actual name in a competing way, she's saying his actual name IS an insult. "Am I speaking your language now, Saul?" = "I can insult you too, Sweetie."
I hate being called sweetie by someone who doesn't know me, irregardless of gender. And yes, I have responded with the diminutive over-familiar label when it's been done to me, with emphasis. Especially since I'm old enough now that I'm not sweet, or darling, or anywhere near cute & fluffy.
I had the same issue with a contractor who added a three story addition to my first house. My husband and I signed the contract and told the owner I would be making all decisions through out the renovations. Apparently they didn’t understand that. All of the male contractors kept going to ask my husband questions and he would in turn tell them to go speak with me.
I had a mechanic at NTB(my husband like taking his car there) speak to me like this saying. Not knowing I know a bit about cars from growing up around mechanics. Male and female mechanics and my aunt beat into me don’t let anyone talk down to you about anything. I told the guy step by step the process and why he shouldn’t have done it(a service we didn’t ask or were told about) and we should be charged for it
This happens. We were flooded in Crystal River after a hurricane. Our drywall contractor chewed out huge holes for electrical outlets. So big that the wall plate couldn’t possibly cover them. They just taped over these gaps because “seriously, are you really going to hang a picture there ?” I argued about the thickness of existing drywall. I had to find a label from it to prove myself correct. This is their attitude. You are a woman so what do you know. I had to threaten to spray the walls myself.

Personally, I am no Plumber or construction specialist either but what I am is a government contract specialist When I pointed out, I could sue him for breach of contract and have his license snatched and a lawsuit literally fixed the problem in less than two hours. It’s a shame we as women have to go there when we just want them to do the job and go , But Believe me it happens.
Once had my kitchen redone, have them the appliance measurements twice. They started to put in cabinets that would be to big for our stove and they told me condescendingly, it'll be fine. When I said, ever so sweetly, it'll be fine when you put in the right cabinets, they looked like a kitten just bit them on the nose.
LOVEEEE IT!! ❤ taking back the power!! Too many times women get treated with disrespect but some how “sweetie” make it ok, bc if a MAN had that contract instead that window 🪟 would have been in the back! You GO BEAUTIFUL! Love 💕 that scene!! Handled like a professional!
I did a plumbing and DIY course to be able to do my repairs, but i usually prefer to get a professional to install. I love when my professionals come in and explain the job to me in "lay terms" then I name the specific tools and items they will be using and get out my tool bag. The conversation (and price) usually shifts so much. Mostly they are just impressed and complimentary, and those are the ones I bring back and recommend to friends.
It seems that I have missed an entertaining show. But this attitude is pervasive throughout contracted services provided by males. I have had similar dealings with car salesmen, appliance salesmen, and most recently appliance delivery people. If you are a guy, the conversation is a bit more jovial, but no less insulting, particularly if the man doesn't have a grasp or sound knowledge of what service they are providing.
Not the biggest fan of the title (should be “young women”) BUT - as a young woman who works in parallel to the construction industry, this is ANNOYINGLY TRUE. They have to fulfill a contract. You said it, sis.
They also have a responsibility to ensure that the work they do is solid, and won't fall apart because some ignorant asswipe figured she knew better than someone actually experienced in the field.
Why should it be young women? I’m middle aged and have never taken crap when I know I’m in the right, and most of my generation are the same, as for women older than me, they are even tougher. Keep your ageist nonsense to yourself.
This was fantastic. I am a woman who grew up in construction and have two certifications of my own in two different trades. I can't wait till that one a$$ does this stupid sh!t with me. It will be a funny day.😂😁🥰
I didn’t even pay attention too much to him calling her sweetie until I read soo many comments of women triggered by it 😂😂 and now I’ve got a mental note to never call any grown women sweetie, lesson learned 😂 but seriously what’s the name of the film/series ?
The guys that redid our home kitchen about 15 years ago did the same thing to my mom, when she asked where the outlets were on the entire left side of the kitchen which she had repeatedly asked for (it's an open space with sky lights and a window seat) the construction guy went to my dad and said "look, your wife is making stuff about about what she asked for" and my dad, as shitty as he is for a dad, stood with my mom and said don't you dare call my wife crazy, if she asked for outlets, she asked for outlets, don't blame her because you all fucked up. We still don't have the outlets.
My mum was basically scammed by a builder once, and couldn't take the builder to court because we made a mistake with the contract where he was the only one that had a copy with his signature. So now I'm very cautious around contracts, everyone should be. Double check everything before you sign
Good way to have the construction company simply take the loss from the job and leave you a mess to clean up. Likely contact other construction companies around preventing any local companies from being willing to work with you outside shady one will do shady work
Some thing similar happened to me. The construction guy was supposed to fix some wood work. Kept doing things how he wanted and occasionally asked me if I wasn't going to feed him. He obviously wasn't used to taking instructions from a female. I was single and lived alone in a beautiful apartment I was trying to renovate. Kept using pet words to address me too. Dear, sweetheart, baby. Didn't so much say the way she did but I let him know that he'd not be paid if he doesn't complete his work quietly, quickly and to my satisfaction. Wish we saw this before then.
What really cracked me up is he says he's been in construction for (only) 4 years. Which at his age, means he is still reasonably new to construction. I don't trust anyone in construction that has less than 10 years on the job.
Honestly, I don't think years on the job means much. One can learn nothing but bad practices in that amount of time. One could also learn nothing but good practices in a shorter amount of time.
What's his age got to do with it. 4 years of experience will be 4 years of experience regardless of what age you start at. I'm not following your logic.
If your Contractor tells you that it will cause structural issues, halt the work, ask questions and do your research. Not this nonsense. She isn’t owning him in this scene, she’s making herself look stupid. And that man she calls husband smirking while she talks down to an employee (for all intent and purpose) is weak. Chances are this truly is a structural issue and now she’s got years of tinkering to do and more money to spend on repairs. 🙄🙄

Asshat
You have OCD and need help
I felt this so hard😂I told my contractor at my last house remodel 6 mos after the promised finish date that any further mansplaining that started with “ what you don’t understand is…, what you don’t realize is… and I’ve got no control over when my subs show up” would not result in a calm and positive outcome for him. I learned to follow every convo with an email just to clarify times, dates and content.
How did the site end?
Who the heck just randomly puts a window at a different place than requested? Without checking with the client first? Seems insane 😳
I wish she would have finished it with "sweetie" instead of his name. 😂
Nah, the ending should've been, "Hon"
No, it's perfect. Calling someone Sweetie like that is a way to demean them in order to make oneself feel superior. It's all perception. Whereas she already proved she is actually in a superior position so she can call him by whatever name she wishes - her dick is bigger. And by using his actual name in a competing way, she's saying his actual name IS an insult. "Am I speaking your language now, Saul?" = "I can insult you too, Sweetie."
Bullshit!

My husband and I signed the contract and told the owner I would be making all decisions through out the renovations. Apparently they didn’t understand that. All of the male contractors kept going to ask my husband questions and he would in turn tell them to go speak with me.

This happens. We were flooded in Crystal River after a hurricane. Our drywall contractor chewed out huge holes for electrical outlets. So big that the wall plate couldn’t possibly cover them. I love when my professionals come in and explain the job to me in "lay terms" then I name the specific tools and items they will be using and get out my tool bag. The conversation (and price) usually shifts so much.
Mostly they are just impressed and complimentary, and those are the ones I bring back and recommend to friends.
That’s really gross that there are still people in the trades that pull that crap.
Love that her accent jumps out when she says “bigger”. This show is so good and she was amazing!!
