It impresses me to no end that someone as anonymous as Banksy is able to create something this high-profile and expensive, all while still remaining anonymous. I know he wasn't the only one behind this, but it's still impressive.
Kashy_kk can u tell me pls?
Agreed
The fact that he involves many others in his projects makes it all the more impressive to me! How can he possibly remain anonymous?
He is Keyser Söze, that's why.
@@dioraranel2000 That’s entirely possible.
Probably one of the best jobs working there. "Don't look happy." No problem!
just don´t give me my coffee!
and especially....DONT PAY ME....:xd
Dismaland reminds me of Wal-Mart
They should say "never come back, fuck you" in the end
Or not.
She said confusing? His art/expressions makes perfect sense. Seriously. No joke. Banksy is unfiltered and awesome.
I think to the average person not well-versed in this kind of art scene, it would be rather confusing.
@@HJima get off your high horse like everyone is an idiot, this is easy to understand commentary on society, its fucking great and well made with a lot of thought behind it, but you're not that smart.
@@viggo8213 it is pretentious and not even art.
RODERICK CONSTANTINO Yeah, they make perfect sense cause Banksy’s art isn’t abstract. Or subtle. It’s clear social commentary.
@@honda-akari Well-said
just imagine working there
you get paid pissing people off.
Dream Job!
Great job!
My dream job
Just like the government, they also get paid for pissing people off
@@simsesworkshop1546 Nah..they get paid for pissing on people.
I just love the overall look and feel of it. It’s a perverse, nightmarish version of the antiseptic Disney aesthetic. The bored, unhappy workers (with trademark mouse ears), the gloomy delapidated looking attractions and the crumbling castle, which would have to be the centerpiece of this very dismal masterpiece.
@@Grave_of_flowers147 It could now have a “Covid Pavilion”.
Can you imagine going through the park stoned out of your mind.
We would A) just laugh and piss ourselves or B) freak out and shit ourselves...
That probably is the best way to visit Dismaland.
How about going there on three tabs of mescaline 😀
No
thats gonna be one hell of a trip
"we can't film in there."
*films in there*
They didn't film in either location, they used the official, provided images or footage.
It was most likely just rapid photography. I think she meant you literally cant film in there, the flash photography from the "paparazzi" wouuld make the film come out like shit...
It's very Banksy of them.
Anarchy against the anarchist
mcmann77 they used officially footage from the released video
So in Disneyland cast members are forced to smile and in Dismaland the cast members are forced to mope.
I saw one Dismaland worker smiling and it really pissed me off!!
The security might have been the fun part... you get paid to be actively aggressive in a way.
banksy is a beast! so much respect for his work. he's putting all his energies into the right place, and he constantly re-invests his money back into his projects for the good of the people. love this guy.
This adds a whole new meaning to “there’s a great big beautiful tomorrow”
What if one of the workers is Banksy?....
Alexandre Sousa that’s what I was thinking and about to say, but you beat me to the punch haha.
I am certain he was there somewhere!
What if more than just one of the workers were Banksy...?!
@@artekulturkanal that right there. I'm sure there is more than one.
+Alamada Ali Where the hell does he even get his money from?
would be cool if they made a big fuss beforehand, and then only set off one firework
Lol
Or, if they were all duds! :-{
As much as I love fireworks, they definitely seemed incongruous here! When I see big, bright, celebratory fireworks, it's kinda hard to think of the term, "Dismal!"
lol
The woman in the NASA caravan made my day. 'Get out!' - so true to life, but people working at amusement parks are normally not allowed to say what they really think, and have to be nice to awful people.
That made me laugh. Reminds me of tge SNL skit of Flight attendance saying bye bye, bye now!
Hahar .my jaw was drop just looking at each desplay. An the hahar.lol .at sume point. S. Kool it's a few artist together in this showing...all way s keeping it creative.
kids: Let's go to disneyland
mom: we have disneyland at home.
disneyland at home:
lol love this (:
doesn't the Cinderella carriage represent Princess Diana and her accident?
Yeah that’s what they said in the video
@@starling_lime8652 why would you put a ":V" after saying that...
Yepperos.
The Princess Diana art piece is amazing
Damn, I really want to go there now. Especially to see that Cinderella carriage.
Same here
I know
It doesnt exist anymore. It was torn down and all the scrap wood was sent to france to build refugee camps a fews weeks after it opened.
Thank you for showing the vibe as well as the art. The employees really helped to set the tone. Some great acting skills.
I know this place isn't supposed to be fun and all but people actually take their children there??
I feel that children were indirectly part of the display, perhaps it was even encouraged to bring kids for some of the show pieces (like the rides/loans/toys)
I went when i was a kid
I went, it was brilliant! Was so sad when it closed, it would be massive for the tourist business in Weston-Super-Mare if it was open all year round
Cathy Hunter that wasn't the point imbecile
Cathy Hunter Wait, are you being ironic?
It closed? :( aw man
It would've been even better if they announced it in the biggest way possible, sold tickets and then never opened it. Miasmaland.
It was made to RAISE awareness.. If it was on for too long, it would blend too much with the street reality and people would forget how ugly capitalism and republicans are.
this kind of art is born from people being self-conscious that they don't "get" art, so art is made that everyone can "get" and say "heh, I get it," but what puts me off about it personally is that that's legitimately all anyone gets from it is that self satisfied sense of "heh I get it."
That makes no sense. If all people get from the art is that they "get it" then there must be something else that they take away from it otherwise there would be nothing to "get"
@@ReubenYoell They take away that they know what they're looking at and that's all. It's parody, at best, on-par with a Family Guy cutaway gag.
I wish I would be able to go to the instillation, I love the whole aesthetic it’s so fucking cool
@@Grave_of_flowers147 cool! im actually in the middle of constructing my own theme park ARG, for now its only going to be an online thing but I hope to make it a reality some day!
@@Grave_of_flowers147 fr what would u name it? And don't forget to include slavery attractions, American poverty, the Healthcare crisis , the police brutality, the rat race , student loan depth crisis, the poor dying in the military for the sake of the wealthy, parental dysfunction within the home , inflation, constant war , the greed of the rich , mental illness, the disillusionment of the younger generations, the gender wars , toxic positivity, the American prison crisis , the homelessness crisis, stagnant wages , the food industry, and being out priced of life.
@@jakethespoopycat that's a dope idea my guy.
@@Grave_of_flowers147 have u ever thought about making the theme park excessive with toxic positivity like the whole theme park is vividly colorful almost phychadelic and everybody is extremely positive about everything however 5he themes are all twisted and the concept for every attraction is depressing/dystopian as fuck. For shits and giggles u can even include various escape rooms and escape mazes that can simulate both the escape out of American poverty and the escape from massive debt.
@@Grave_of_flowers147 ah amazing bounce off There! I wish u all the best in ur venture man 😃
The portrait artist at 3:44 is gorgeous
Models duh
As gorgeous as her art :)
She is banksy
Had to watch this in a GSCE practice art lesson and I absolutely love Banksey and his art style so much, it is just so creepy and eerie its just amazing its so cool and clever how he uses his art to express his own feelings and opinions and how he takes his own stand on bad thing happening in today's society like migration horse meat deaths on the road and other things I think its just amazing
Word at my art s degree thay didn't say much about him...
The interviewer and the woman are most depressing then Dismaland. Though Banksy is a genius of our times! Very inspiring!!
This theme park expresses the feelings I have always had (even as a child) when visiting a "normal" theme park.
I love the bus stop key set
Isn't it illegal?
to by the tools no to tamper with the signs yes
Me too. Love shit like that.
They've started putting CCTV cameras on bus stop ads to try to stop 'vandalism'. But they're long gone before anyone notices....
@@SirBlackReeds Only if you get caught lol
"my favorite one is the migrant boat, which is a major problem and is uh, uhh, everyone should wake up." Damn, so deep
12:49 - When I was a teen, we unlocked those bus stop windows in Germany just with a knife and just stole every large poster of a movie or something that we liked.
Haha geil
What makes me feel more is the easy that journalists forget they are inside an art experience and try to move and act normally. Their bodies seems to ignore the employees as they were invisible, mostly. It's shocking but this made me think on how I give for granted every single day so many interactions.
I come back to watch this video every few months, it's just fascinating.
💯.. me2...think everyone should as times change! Genius banksy
Wow that place looks really great! so much better than I was expecting! I don't know what I like most: the great staff, the gimmicky games, the huge 3D art pieces, the rides (probably not), or all the pseudo-art decorations and atmosphere.
I have always been a big fan of Arte. It certainly is the best channel on German (and maybe French) TV. However, I would like to say that I find this documentary rather disappointing. One gets the impression that Lars & Butterfly are always thinking: "Ok, we've got to say something, what do we say next?" Rather poorly prepared and executed. Probably the least professional I've ever seen on Arte.
Falco Pfalzgraf, London/UK
you are right...the press team of the park threated journalists like shit so it all just rounds up the dismaland circle...
first of all: thanks a lot for liking us :) ... and second: as the journalists themselves didn't know what to expect inside, they didn't or couldn't prepare for the job. Even if they wanted to do a good job ;)
Didn't really need to sign your post, kinda pretentious there. But as Arte replied, it becomes a personal experience and how do you prepare for that?
But being a poor interview, even if not intentional, adds to the dismal experience. So its art in itself
Dismaland: The Saddest Place on Earth
ya we got that from the content but thanks for the spoon ..
I was so GUTTED when I was in hospital and missed this ☹️ will never happen again !
I love the balloons. Banksy's just brilliant as always.
the music is too loud!
That's the point.
Worst first date ever.
Any budding relationship of mine would be over if he didn't get it... I dumped a guy once because he cried on the roller coaster. I am a roller coaster, cry and you are out!!.
wow, were these two hired to not get it?
?
Exactly, embarrassing
Very impressiv. Shows our depressd world perfectly.
Damn Banksy really did the impossible in making all these parts completely unrelated yet have the Same Exact 'meanings'. Like how do you make some of these pieces so obvious in intent that they end up meaning nothing
"haha look at these kids things we made them Edgy"
I really wish I could have gone to this, to bad I lived in US at the time, I love Banksy's work
The music is perfect
Nick's Dynasty do you know the song please let me know the song
Seems like a good place to go on sundays
This really was total genius.
Nice KLF reference with the ice cream van.
Much of the imagery depicted in Dismaland holds a psychological effect on your mind. Whereas you would normally associate many of these characters and things with happiness, and joy, they are now distorted to the point that you sublimely embrace the true corruption and greed behind all things and people.
I would love to work there
The caravan ride reminds me of the rib tickler at Crows fare 1970"s Middlesbrough. Very clever with the caravan theme
Girl working the Ice Cream truck at 20:00 owned that..😆..🍦(?)
Guy handing out pamphlets at the entrance killed it, too. 😀🖕
Banksys energy is always inspiring. 🌱💧
Many people didn't understand the Cinderella part.... it made have tears... its about broken dreams. I'm an artist too, guys. Hello, everyone.
3:35 love the concept of her art...
Well done banksy! I have a permanent grin for this and all the work gone into w/ Collab from other artists! Love the reverse portraits too! I'd gladly pay to visit there instead of boring old disney-dump haha
Thanks for made this video. I had no possibilites to visit the park while it's running.
Thank you for showing this one. Really incredible shots and information. 🤘
“So that’s just the fun side of it”
*looks unequivocally depressed”
This is next level genius shit. What I would give to have got a chance to see this.
All the employees look so bored and pissed off I love it lmao
I am so in love with banksy
Man I would love to work there
Whats the title of the music playing in the background? This is such a chill beat
ive been looking for years
Jonathan Ogle did you find it
you all should take that show on the road
The genius of Banksy is that he can bend and change your perception of things you already no.
This place captures the knock off creepy Disneyland vibe very well
I remember finding this when I was like 7 and I was hella scared that Disneyland closed down and turned into this lmao
Anyone else notice the clockwise motion of merry go round? Don’t know what significance it has but I’ve always seen them go counterclockwise
I need to get myself to Disney after this... to much depression
FuKiiink brilliantly executed. I love your work Bankster. Keep popping up randomly, I'll follow from my armchair.
The most magical place on earth
Not a fan of Banksy but this is a really awesome collaborative installation.
Großartig. Mein nächster Urlaub werde ich in Dismaland sein. Gibt´s dort in der Parkanlage Hotels ?
ich würde so viel geld dafür zahlen!
This is actually so fucked up and honest at the same time
What song is in the beginning of the video I really like it?
4:30 I'm pretty sure horse meat is still being sold as dog food. Not many seem to know or bother to care.
50 years ago, butchers sold horse meat. People used to buy it deliberately. The big fuss the other year was simply because they tried to sell it as beef, not because it was any more harmful than beef.
I've eaten horse meat on accident
I think its good to use meat not suitable for humans on pets.
14:35 oh they also teach you vandalism... and even give the tools. I mean I get their message because of this some people may get in trouble.
I mean, in London this kind of vandalism is so stupidly easy to get away with.
My brother in law was drunk on his birthday 🎂 & when I brought up a banksy documentary to my sister he started talking shit & long story short after arguing i bought my sister and I every dismaland tee and one hoodie each to wear😂 just to rub it in
I got curious at this Dismaland via CoundDankula. Then I looked it up and they already in 2015 demolished to whole place.
Sad to see one of the few theme parks i Would actual want to go to be demolished.
That's actually cool woah (I just had to say some of those guys that work there are so cute )
why don't they continue it? Does anybody know?
Music is just PERFECT.
While watching, I thought that it sonds like.. "Russian-depressive" for me. I felt this cos I'm from Russia myself. But I also thought that I'm possibly wrong, cos it's german(?) video about British-Banksy.
But the composer is Engeny Grinko-Russian🙃I guessed it right.
We know how to be depressive here.
Anybody got a link to all the music used?
The more I look at it the more I like it! ... Great Banksy! 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥
10:49 Hey, that's "La Llorona" by Beirut playing during that film!
The girls 13 min in... "Art and politics are intertwined"
I find it kind of rude to assume all art has a political basis... As an artist who creates pretty things and weird things just to make pretty and weird things, i find it insulting that so many assume all art has meaning at all... Bc it doesn't have to mean anything. And that is ok.
auddities Pretty sure the Mona Lisa or The Scream don't have political messages. What she said's just ignorant.
Be insulted then. Make art about it or something.
@UCRb96t10rVQrRpkAviBrHrg actually yes i do. And yea i get he does have specific messages and meaning twords his work, but not every artist does. I was an art major in college and there is a push for everything to have deep meaning and to figure out what things mean when not everything has that. Some pieces are for aesthetics and should be taken at face value. If there is a deeper meaning we shouldnt assume it but rather ask.
Also loving how yall want to complain about a comment i made a year ago that isnt hurting anyone... I still stand by it.
@@3xand3r49 Three years since you made this comment, and it is aging like a fine wine.
WHat is teh behginning song ive been searching for so long.
What song/music is played at 8:18?
The carriage wreck is haunting.
24:25 pet rocks, sea monkeys, various happy meals toys, etc.....
wonderful, many surprises.
so how many people undrstand what the message is?
greenstreet1289 What's the message?
The message is: if you're not outraged, you're not paying attention.
ringerman this comment brought tears to my eye. Thank you.
Ever since I've visited Dismaland, this quotation (from an unknown artist at the park) is my timeline visual on FB. The efforts on realizing this huge artistic - and in the same time so disturbing - collaboration of many so talented and dedicated artist were massive. Dismaland actually changed something in my life and it was one of the greatest art events I've ever visited. Unfortunately this was not reflected in this lousy video documentation...
greenstreet1289 I don't think this place is sinister. I think it's more...realistic. This park separates fantasy from reality. They say the place isn't for kids, but on some level, kids need to learn that the world isn't this perfect, happy place that Disney movies make them believe it is. Not saying the world is completely deprived of enjoyment either, but you get what I'm saying. The world is more like Dismaland.
What's the song at 8:55?
Womdering the Same :(
26:13 why is the guy in the background low-key cute?
@6:25 is that the guy who super glued his lips?
It's a shade dystopian. Would be very interesting to see exquisite Oldmaster utopia.
this is the future we all heading for
I worked for a year with travelling carnival , I would love to work at dismal park , looks cool.
we had people die on rides, employees drunk , high on crack , a boss shot employees and guests ,
no harm done as he was an off duty cop.
only arrests were fathers late on child support.
Arrived at a state fair , the freak show fat man at 450lbs, weighed less than "Doc" Ferris wheel man,
who was medic in Nam and drank 5 litres of soda a day.
This is only a start
I’ve been there it’s really fun and the employees are very funny
Kid:I want disneyland!
Mom:We have disneyland at home!
Disneyland at home:
so interesting.. The children and advertising bit was fascinating and so true.
9:25 song?
Poirot and Tarutz Walk In Paris by Evgeny Grinko
the interviewer sucks, however this has to be one of the greatest things I've ever seen. I have a new found respect for banksy. this inspires me to become an activist... unfortunately I have no talent ☹️
since when do you need talent to be an activist? Just go out and do something!
