When on Earth will the Tate or MOMA just start sending CEX trains across the Americas with a portable gallery on the sides? Beats staring at iron gates for 20 minutes waiting for them trains to pass RIP King Robbo.
the Camden Robbo mural was painted over with a black and white depiction of the original with the additions of a crown and a can of spray paint with a hazard symbol of a flame above it. It was done by Banksy as "a tribute to him and as an effort to end the feud in a sense of lighting a candle for Robbo who was still in comatose condition"
This is essentially the same thing as Rothko vs. Pollock but it's with street art. It's a really great deep dive into what made both artists great. It's just unfortunate they can't see the greatness in each other because of how devoted to their techniques they are.
In Melbourne we celebrate street art (including writing), we have a lot of places in the CBD where you can paint legally, artists travel all around the world to paint here. This is pretty interesting to watch.
I'm glad they left out the tribute to Robbo from Banksy because it's totally insincere. I'm quite shocked that so much of Banksys work is a rip of of Blek

Yeah one guy writes his name, one guy makes statements. They're both very talented, but only one of them is really capturing the essence of this type of art. And I'm sorry to all of the people who like to go write their name on stuff, it's not robbo.
@Side Stepper if you don't know anything about the art then don't get involved. Blek had his rats STOLEN his redering style was stolen not just because its a rat.
@@prawngravy18 Blek dient invent stencils you plum. There was a huge movement of that in Paris in the 60s. Blek's work is boring as hell, and he caught. a free ride off banksy, who, despite what this shit documentary would have you think via carefully selected images that are superficially similar, is a million times more diverse and creative.
The "BIGGEST" ! factor in the price of art often isn't quality or effort - it's "BRANDING"!! Branding yourself is probably the single most important thing one can do to monetize. !! or be known. Good artists copy great artists steal.
I can see from both sides. Robbo didn't need to put Banksy on blast, even if it was true. Because at the end of the day they both know what happened. But on the same ticket Banksy didn't have to do that to his piece. He could've dissed him in another way. But with that being said I understand why Banksy went back and showed his respects. I mean after beefing for that long you gain a certain respect or maybe even a liking to each other. It's like batman and joker. They needed each other. Robbo went to the fullest extent and bombed internationally and was widely respected. Every graff artist strides for that. But also Banksy even though he was doing stencils got to the point where his city went as far as to preserve his art. That is also something I would personally love. Because graff is temporary. Just a major fact in graff. Your work will either get buffed or get ragged on by another graff artist. And if you can get paid for what you love to do then aye. Do your damned thing. Regardless I feel as the graff community we needed them both. Respect to Banksy and r.i.p robbo. You both are legends and im super glad to have witnessed the two of you, even if it was beef.
I agree with most of what you say, but I find it funny when people say that stencils are cheating, or aren't as hard. Stencils and freehand graffiti are just two closely related artforms, and only very talented artists do either one well. I think both are true art. Just as classical music and rock and roll are two related artforms. Some people only acknowledge one or the other, some claim that Rock isn't true art, but it's easy to see that both are valid forms of art, that can be beautiful and moving when performed by virtuosos. RIP Robbo

Writing and street are different entitites. Different rules apply. The media keeps on trying to blend the two together. Give it up, real writers will always be around. Believe that.
So this was essentially, "Fuck you Banksy, your works are unoriginal and easy to make and you're an evil person. But King Robbo and the "actual" graffiti artists are above you in everyway because their style involves them plastering their name everywhere humanly imagineable with no meaning behind it." The documentary. That's what it came off as. I enjoyed seeing Robbo's work, I enjoyed learning about Blek, I think they have really interesting pieces. I still think Banksy has some of the most thought provoking pieces up in some of the neatest places around. I think he's great. Blek had up really interesting portraits in areas that were beautiful, but they weren't necessarily statements in themselves. I think Robbo's signatures were really interesting. I think Banksy makes some awesome, interesting looking, statements wherever he sees fit. They're all cool. RIP Robbo, and I'm glad Banksy restored your original piece under the bridge.
Morty The thing is, the complaint is, that a piece of art, which was already heavily vandalized to the extent that saying it was "still there" is ludicrous, was incorporated, without the permission of an artist who had dropped off the map from any outside perspective, is wrong. But, Blek using Maria and Child, was okay? And Blek, someone who was an art student, who should see the history, talks about the idea of originality and style, but misses the fact that art is made up of movements, like Seurat and Signac pioneering pointillism, only for that cheep hack Van Gogh to go and paint a self portrait in the style. Or like dismissing Van Meegeren as a total looser, despite being such a good forger, that he was put on trial for selling cultural artifacts to the Nazis, only to be acquitted of that charge, by having it demonstrated that he forged, to extraordinarily high quality, the Vermeers he'd sold. Such high quality, that his was considered the finest Vermeer in the world by some.
Wow, wow, wow. Stunned by the way this finished. Lost any and all respect for Banksy, who sounds like quite a nasty piece of work. RIP Robbo, a truly talented artist (unlike some)

This is one of the most amazing videos I've ever seen and the most inspiring one for me as an artist. I hope Robbo will rise again to continue doing what he was doing. This is not how things should end, this is not the way. I want to see him rise up and smash the world of art with double the strength. I want to see him as strong and creative as never before. From all of my heart, get well soon, Robbo.

Banksy covering Robbo's art and Robbo laughs, so full confidence, so strong and passionate, he is amazing not letting Banksy get that last laugh and I hope he wakes up soon enough to do it. Because King Robbo is worth it, and a great man. Get up soon Robbo, Your kids, fans, and promoters would surely love to see you up and adem.
Banksy with his satire art world that caters to middle school art teachers. Banksy is a corporation or a collective of artist that make pop art or "anti"pop art. so edgy but soccer moms can't turn away.
I remember watching this documentary when I was little, was very fascinated by this ‘war’. Just found out Robbo died in 2014, madness
Me too bro I’ll never forget watching this on like e4 or something 10 years ago, I literally have watched it 20 times since it’s such an intriguing story
I was today years old when I found out banksy has no balls

I like how at the beginning its quite hostile bit towards the end robbo was quite glad banksy did it coz it gave him the impetus to come out of retirement. R.I.P Robbo

This documentary has one of the maddest plot twists I’ve ever seen, had me thinking about for a like a week after i saw it for the first time
Comparing graffiti to stencil is like comparing a guitar player to a producer. It's two different things although both is art/music.
More like a professional pianist Vs a busker that use buckets
One is art other is tracing
@@snakyjones1216 banksy makes his own stencils though, so would the stencils be the art?
bert yes it is so is finger painting where as graffiti takes skill any body can do what ba sky does so less dope imo still art tho just third grade level 😆
It’s all subjective, there’s nothing that everyone likes because people dislike things simply because of their popularity.
Make art not war
These guys make "artwar" lol.
That is the exact thing uncle Iroh from avatar the last airbender would have said

Banksy....... is not as dope as the world may think.. it’s sad.. he is not the real deal.. banksy is a TOY.... big ups King Robbo...respect ✊
that doesn't change the fact that he's a talented artist
Shawn Clover ...... you are absolutely right.. He is a very talented Artist.. But that doesn’t mean he’s a good person. Nor did he respect the Graffiti culture and it’s unspoken rules.
Took out banksy with that last portrait no b.s. free hand to dope team robbo
"Of all the walls in London." Way I see that wall. That is something special. A place where both artists could express themselves in a for/against/neither statements.
When on Earth will the Tate or MOMA just start sending CEX trains across the Americas with a portable gallery on the sides? Beats staring at iron gates for 20 minutes waiting for them trains to pass
RIP King Robbo.
Hahahaha robbo's more legit than banksy now. The hypocrisy lol
the Camden Robbo mural was painted over with a black and white depiction of the original with the additions of a crown and a can of spray paint with a hazard symbol of a flame above it.
Two quick things Robbo clearly won the war and imagine how big he would be today! RIP KING!
rip robbo may you spray all the walls in the afterlive or whatever
Amen 🙏
In Melbourne we celebrate street art (including writing), we have a lot of places in the CBD where you can paint legally, artists travel all around the world to paint here. This is pretty interesting to watch.
Maddi Holmes Well, You guys have Sofles, one of the greatest graffiti writers in the world right now.
I'm glad they left out the tribute to Robbo from Banksy because it's totally insincere.
I'm quite shocked that so much of Banksys work is a rip of of Blek
Definitely disappointed
Fuck banksy long live king robbo

This is actually a very well executed war. Lots of very good points on both sides. RIP Robbo, I'm a fan of you and Banksy.

They're both very talented, but only one of them is really capturing the essence of this type of art. And I'm sorry to all of the people who like to go write their name on stuff, it's not robbo.

The "BIGGEST" ! factor in the price of art often isn't quality or effort - it's "BRANDING"!! Branding yourself is probably the single most important thing one can do to monetize. !! or be known. Good artists copy great artists steal.
real writers never give up! They just take breaks....
RIP Robbo
Robbo shouldn't come of like that . He's not entitled . He got pissed why ? Cuz Banksy didn't know him ?. Wtf ?. That's stupid . But different style

Freehand is real art to be honest
Robbo & Banksy are very different artists so there is no comparison to be made ! The feud was theirs and theirs alone . Now the real genius was Blek le Rat 👍🏻 way before his time and good on the French for recognising this street art as street art back in the day ❤️ is Banksy a copycat ? Yes for application and execution only , his depictions are his own .
I loved this when it came on the telly
THEY DIDN´T SHOW THE MOST IMPORTANT PART IN THE WAR BETWEEN THEM BOTH!!! In the end, Banksy has restored the graffiti of robbo to show him respect after all.

@@CMDXuXa141 In the movie I didn't see the one where Banksy repainted a monochrome version of the original 1985 Robbo, with a spray can candle. He did this while Robbo was laying in the hospital in a coma. I thought that was really respectful..

Writing and street are different entitites.
Different rules apply. The media keeps on trying to blend the two together. Give it up, real writers will always be around. Believe that.
@Nipha Ahtlantashah sure you do tough guy. Hahahahahaha....
