It’s because without an earth rod outside it’s impossible to have a true cpc. Hence why certain domestic electrical installations needs an earth rod driving in if it’s a TT mains supply, because the cpc needs a connection to true earth ie the ground
Graham for what it is worth, keep your head up, projects kick your ass and we bounce from it. You could not have foreseen the kit issues and over the coming days, once you clear your head you will have the answer. Your safety mindset and risk considerations are exemplary and should be adopted by others. I have to be honest and say I’m jealous of your skill set, Jack of all trades as they say. Electrical layout is looking superb. Keep it going. Rest up and come back stronger. Great work and words.
Thank you for the Kind words Gavin. As needs to happen, I have regrouped and begin the battle with Renogy. As I just said to Jamie They have already admitted their staff member was not accurate in his description. ("talked a load of .....") I am just going through the process now of waiting for communication from their legal department. I am also going to be talking to trading standards and the IET about Renogy. I have made it clear that they are endangering peoples lives with their lack of knowledge and false statements. I can and have tested all the electrical equipment we have bought. A lot of people can't and if they took Renogy at face value they would be putting their own and others lives at risk. Thank you for your words of support and for following our journey :-)
The only inverter I know comes up safe in a test like this is the Sterling Power Pure Sine Wave as I had a second hand one from a narrow boat for five years till it died when I replaced it with a Renogy and have this same issue until we can afford another Sterling inverter. It’s not a mains charger as well like yours. We have a separate Victron for that. I like to keep separates so you don’t get the whole lot go down in one go. Personal choice I suppose
Thanks for watching and commenting, if you take a look through my electrics videos you will see I nearky had renogy in court. In the end I settled with them and made the stand alone 2000w invetor safe running to UK regs. Thanks again 🙂
quite an intense frustrating time you seem to have had there with the renergy inverter but I understand it needs to be "right" for the van to function and support the family. I'm seeing lots of big youtubers pushing renergy but you never hear when it goes wrong. It was refreshing to see a different view. Thats what I like about you Graham. You tell it like it is. I know what it is to see an autistic spectrum child go full on" zero coping mode". In fact we have three children in our family who are autistic-one profoundly so and I've mentioned my nephew a good few times on this channel.. Everything needs to right.Everything needs to be safe and if it isnt, then you wont feel comfortable in Woolfie. On the plus side, I now know who to book to make sure my re-imagined electrics are spot on Graham. 😉 Much respect to you all as usual- Kenny
I know you get exactly what I am saying in not so many words Kenny, thanks for your kind words as always and always being one of the first to watch along and support our Journey. As always best wishes - G and the Taylor clan :-)
The Roamer 460ah are great aren’t they had one for about 18m now. If you had bought an non neutral earth bonded you could understand it as the outputs float, buying as a bonded and it not having that though is quite literally shocking and concerns you if further issues, had my hands burned (almost literally) with all in ones (not same make) so kept with separates all be it get the convenience of all in ones but once bitten and all that. Interesting video but sense how frustrated you were with it. All the best, David 👍
Yeah, fantastic batteries. I originally planned to import some eve cells and build a 560 Ah. The cost per Ah would be less but there would be no support and even though we had a great contact, there are some real horror stories of the quality of the cells that arrive. In the end we decided to work with a UK company and Chris over at Roamer was great. As for Renogy I am currently talking but communication is slow and they do not seem to understand the gravity of the situation. Their information could kill someone. If I wasn't so OCD about things and couldn't test what I was told, I could be in real trouble. Someone who wired it in to their instructions and pressed the test button on the RCBO would trip the switch and think it was safe. Unknowingly they would continue the install thinking everything after the RCBO was protected. Frustrated is not the word, I have made it clear to them I do not take a company putting my family in danger too kindly and will be moving to court action if we don't resolve through communication. I have asked them a number of times for the UK office address and informed them of the fact I can move to small claims court very easily. I will be making a video on the dealing with Renogy. Thanks David all the best to you and yours 🙂
Gosh Graham, you surly know your electrics. Was you an electrician? That wall you did was very good. Very technical I say Graham. I only know so much lol. But I have managed to put solar on my Talbot and a 3000 watt inverter. But yours beats mine. I agree about your son, about safety. That's what's it's all about. I'm speechless of what you showed us. Wished I was like you. Seem very brainy Graham. Can I have some brain cells. Lovely video . ATB....
Thank Tim, no not an electrician just a bit of a nerd when it comes to reading and learning. Grew up having two Granddads and my dad that all could turn a hand to things and then just carried on reading and learning. Can't spell for toffee, but science, maths and physics I always got on pretty well with. You are doing a fantastic job with your Van and you know folk who can answer a question if you ever need :-) Again thanks as always :-)
You're 10x smarter than me, so I assume you've done everything correctly. I have, though, seen a lot of people who are also smarter than me try to earth electrics to the chassis on top of the paintwork. Assume that's not the case in this instance, but sometimes it's worth the ask as it's easy to look over. 👍
Fair question, but yes I did sand back to a nice bear metal bonding point and checked continuity between all earth points on the meter. They have already admitted their staff member was not accurate in his description. ("talked a load of .....") I am just going through the process now of waiting for communication from their legal department. I am also going to be talking to trading standards and the IET about Renogy. Just as i thought. I couldn't agree more with you and i'm glad to hear you're pursuing that issue. This video in particular has removed Renogy from any sort of consideration for my van in the future. So thanks for the heads up. And good luck with the rest if the build. 👌
I would take a look at sterling power tbh, they are UK based. They produce a Combi ( Inverter charger ) and also a DCDC MPPT. They are probably less than Victron but more than Renogy. I have personally spoke to Ben over there and they know what they are talking about. They designed the machine the PCL design was ...... "borrowed" from (not very well it would seem) They offer a 2 year warranty and comply with UK regs. If I wasn't down the rabbit hole already with Renogy I would be installing there gear now. It was never really about price. The Victron gear wouldn't do what I wanted, the Renogy was supposed to. All the Cheap non branded and unknown brands don't even put the right specs up. If you want series Off grid setup with 50amp charger from shore, 30amp DCDC and MPPT charge controller for solar and 2500w inverter they have it. Again, just wish I had seen them before I went with Renogy.
No different to eco flow delta ,when i plug into van EHU tester shows fault. It does not have an earth from the 240v output.Their teq said its a floating earth or neutral and is correct
Unfortunately not safe enough for us. The ecoflow may have its own safety features, honestly I have never looked at it becasue the cost per Ah is so high and not adaptable enough for us.
Not a fan of cities ourselves, our little town is getting too big now. We would love to have some land in the middle of Wales. What city do you live in?
@@traveling-taylors Yeah wales is nice and land is quite cheep, a good place to invest in going off grid. I live in Leicester so smack bang in the center of the country about as far inland as you can get.
he has bridged the neutral to earth in the consumer unit I am not an electrician I just wondered if this would help you th-cam.com/video/MoppJKOkTUc/w-d-xo.html
Thanks Mick, just had a watch. Unfortunately that wouldn't work in a van as it is earthed to chassis and as such not a true ground. You would have to add an earth spike every time you used the system.
It’s because without an earth rod outside it’s impossible to have a true cpc. Hence why certain domestic electrical installations needs an earth rod driving in if it’s a TT mains supply, because the cpc needs a connection to true earth ie the ground
