Just a heads up, TH-cam allows us to choose up to 3 thumbnails for a video. I selected 2 styles for this one: Traditional and "Mr. Beast" style. After some time, TH-cam will display which thumbnail performed better I personally like the traditional style more, however in order to grow I understand I may need to switch things up occasionally Let me know which thumbnail TH-cam showed you and which you prefer!
I had the Fixing my Nissan Skyline with the car on the left and your face on the right. To be honest, the thumbs with a face DO grab my eye a bit more. That said, thank you for not resorting to "TH-cam face" just yet -> 😲😲🫨😱😱🤯🤯
i got the one that said "instant refresh" with just the skyline, i like these traditional ones more but if you started to use the "mr beast" style i wouldnt mind. especially if that gets you some growth on the channel!
people are probably going to say the traditional one and i definitly prefer that one too, but all in all.. its just a Thumbnail, if it brings more views i say go for the one that gets you the most views.. People that are subs will watch eitherway
I personally really like your traditional style, but I would understand why you would switch to the Mr Beast style thumbnail for a while, but only real ones will still watch your videos, with goofy thumbnails and edits, or not.
I think I speak for all of us when I say we are really proud of how far this channel has come, you never seem to take a loss Mike. And when you do, you turn it into a learning opportunity, really good stuff man :)
Hey, don't know if you'll see this but here's my input on this exact engine from my own experience, maybe it will be useful to you! I put an RB20DE Neo like yours from a 1998 R34 into my R33 GTST. I mated it to a manual big box from an R34 GTT, all bolt on. This motor is REALLY rev happy and loves timing. I put a twin scroll Holset HX35 on it and kept all the stock intake manifolds, butterfly valve and swirl valves in place. I'm running a standalone AEM V2 ECU and controlling all the solenoids and valves just like the factory ECU. You can tweak the opening of these valves to suit having a turbo, which can greatly help spool and low-mid range response. Everyone loves to throw this manifold away and run front facing but for that you need to slightly port the head ports as they differ in shape. The factory plenum is big enough (and the throttle body!) to allow for a decent amount of airflow through it, so don't be afraid to keep it and test it out. Sometimes a feeling of sluggishness or lack of power can be felt in the 20 Neo and even 25DE Neo motors when one of these valves and their solenoids stop working or opening when they should. I have tested it manually and it's awful; best to visually confirm if yours are opening and closing when they should (specs can be found on the R34 Service manual). Also check the vacuum lines and canister (under the manifold) for leaks or tears. Keep in mind, if you leave the top butterfly actuator unhooked, it will keep the intake plenum open acting as a short runner manifold (this will make it feel sluggish from 0-3650 RPM, then it will feel more peppy). And if you leave the lower swirl valves actuator unhooked from vacuum, it will keep them open at all times which would make it run a bit quicker in reality (air going through main port rather than the two smaller ports) but it will make your fuel economy suffer. Usually those swirl valves remain closed up until 3000 RPM for an automatic car then they open up. Keep in mind neither of these valve systems should ever feel like a "vtec kicked in yo" type of feeling, but the tone of the engine and torque will change. Also, these engines really love a set of NGK BCPR7ES plugs especially if you're gonna be boosting it. It's a cheap plug, but it's proven to work! Also I wouldn't run 10-30 oil in it at all. The aussies have long proven that the best oil to run for any RB is 10w-60 oil, period. I live in a country with very similar weather as in your state, and I run Motul 10-60 in it. Holds amazing oil pressure and no knocking on cold starts. These heads have solid lifters and shims, they can take a beating. They also have a single gapless compression ring on the pistons, which handles boost very well. Their compression ratio from the factory is 9.5:1, and with its two liter displacement, a good tune and properly sized turbo such as an HX35 working in twin scroll, I start making boost at 2000 RPM! Oh and be warned, ACL don't offer conrod bearings for this specific engine. The big ends are 42mm wide compared to regular RB20DET which have 45mm big ends. So your only option are factory NDC bearings. For the mains, they are the same as all other RBs so you can get ACL ones for those. Also the only available head gasket is the factory one, no other will work with this motor (but it holds boost fine, I'm on stock gasket and bolts, holds 15 psi no questions asked). I think with some nice supporting parts and a decently sized turbo, you can make a pretty cool sleeper out of this Skyline. I'm already pushing 350 HP and it can do even more but I'm only tuning based on the factory knock sensors so I'm limited by that. Good luck and I hope this info is useful to you. You can hit me up on my IG @skpro_jects . I have my entire build posted up there. I'm keen to see what you'll do to yours!
Insanely great information, thank you so much I will note, I verified the operation of both valves, both seem to open an close normally based on engine load. I couldn't find any vacuum leaks, even did a brake clean spray test to verify. Good to know about the oil weight and plugs! Adding those to the list. Still unsure what would cause it to bog at idle and cruising speeds. Has no problem at all accelerating with 50%+ load Appreciate the info 🙏
@@PrizzaMike No sweat! Also check up on the VTC solenoid right near injector #1. It's a simple on/off type (not variable like some people say). The intake cam is by default retarded by 20 degrees and once VTC switches on, it "advances" it back to essentially 0*. Sometimes when that is not working correctly, it would lead to similar symptoms.
Hey mike! I had a question for you, so December 17th through the 20th, I will be in Chicago, I have a buddy of mine graduating from the navy, And my Supra should be up and running, I figured we could maybe meet up and I could show it to you? You've been a huge inspiration for my car and rebuilding it, if you aern't up for it that's ok! Because I could always come to a meet you're at and show it to you then, I won't have it painted or interior swapped or anything, but if it's gets me there on a 5 hour drive, that's all that matters, but hey thank you for making all these videos and being such a big inspiration for not just me, but for everyone subscribed and all the members of your channel, or just random viewers who stumbled upon your channel, I really can't thank you enough mike, and it's so good to see your channel grow and all the progress on the cars!
Hey man! I wish you safe travels on your drive I'll check and see if we can make that time frame work for something. I'm just hoping it's not snowing by then 😬
@PrizzaMike yeah same here man, and thank you for the safe travels! But yeah no RWD does not mix well with snow 😂, we may end up taking my fiance's truck, and if we do I'll make sure to get pics and videos of driving it! Have a good one mike, and again, thank you for the inspiration!
10:08 well, how did you think drifting was invented 😅 19:33 Hawthorne Heights Looking forward to a road trip montage in the next video. The R34 looks great; it has probably one of the best looking factory steering wheels. Congratulations on getting this cool car 🎉
Polishing headlights is one of my favorite things to do. I lowkey get stoked when my friends pull up with crusty headlights haha. It’s such a satisfying job
Last two videos have been super great! I love the idea of a new chassis to the channel. Especially it being a skyline and it's stock 😮. I already know it's gonna end up awesome. Can't wait to see the transformation.
2 months ago I bought a 1999 Hr34 rb20de neo 5speed manual with 33,000 km and no rust 🙌🏻 just waiting for insurance to be ironed out and she will be on the road. Mine bogs when cruising but if I get above 3500rpm it gets a lot better
Japan uses a different octane rating scale (RON) than the US (AKI). 98 RON (Japan) = 93 AKI (US) The fuel smells different because of different additives and/or different requirements for the scent additive than the US. If the octane difference was that big, almost everybody with a JDM import would be blowing up engines as soon as they made a pull on their first tank of American fuel
FYI here in Australia the 25DE NEO engine is a cheap engine that responds very well to boost. I have an unopened one running in my drift car NA+T makes 390hp at the wheels with just bolt ons 15psi tuned on a link ecu, zero blow by 💪
The first oil change I did on my Mustang I had to stick a screw driver through it for leverage to get it off, it also had a Fram filter on it that was smaller than the OEM filter
I think every pizza fan is gonna agree when I say I hope you keep your retro and laid back fun style you hav now I hope your projects stay just old clapped out cars that you make road worthy and have fun with , we love these kinds of builds just in the garage not a huge budget it makes it feel available to people like us keep it up dude you’re doing great !
so excited for your plans on this thing. love how all the projects have turned out so i cant wait to see what the plan is for the skyline. glad to see you reach goals. motivates me so much to keep going!!
NICE!! when it comes to headlight restoration I usually wet sand with 600 grit and put a good clear coat on it, it lasts longer than polishing and looks just as good..
ITB high Compression 5speed, dang man. If I would have not spent 15 plus grand on my E46 I could have a really nice S15. PS I really like the 4 door R34's

This is my favorite video of yours only because I was born in New Haven and lived in East Haven part of my life. Have family still there. Pepe’s pizza is the best in the world as far as I am concerned and I would almost kill for a Foxen Park White Birch Beer Soda even though I haven’t drank soda in over 4 years. Great content!
Mikey, you are going to need a mall parking lot soon. I am stoked to see the progress on this beast. Every time i watch , i want to get a project car and dig in.

I restored my old jeeps lights and forgot the protector.. 😅 they later started cracking BAD.
I really like those wheels on it too! Would not take a whole lot to get this looking the way I would want it. All the coolest cars are getting old, unless you pay top dollar for perfect examples they tend to have some character, cosmetically or mechanically at this point.

R34 4dr is a dream car. They just look so good kitted (bonus points if they're wingless).
Living in Japan here (driving a 90s Bimmer), regular octane is 89-90, high octane is 96 - 100 so definitely smells different than gas in the US.
