Fun Fact #1: The shoot was done in an arid region close to Bhuj in Gujarat, where it had not rained for multiple years on end. The huts, ploughs, ox-carts, were all real, built for this purpose, and sourced from the nearby villages, which didn't have much modern technology at that time. The crew had to travel to and from the location by a chartered bus, and all the characters, including the Hero and Heroine, were on the same bus. The accommodations were built up by taking up a complex of newly constructed apartments, which served a lot in building up camaraderie amongst all the members of the cast.
Fun Fact #2: This was one of the few movies at that time, which used sync sound (sound and dialogues were recorded along with the video during the direct shoot itself, no dubbing), and it was hell to do it. Every time an aircraft passes overhead, the shoot would stop for 20 min. Every time the wind picked up pace, the mics had to be reinforced with foam to cut out wind noise, and sometimes the wind would be so strong that the shoot would pack up entirely.
Fun Fact #3: When the shoot of the cricket match got pushed back due to scheduling, the cast found themselves bearing the brunt of the intense summer of the Rann of Kutch, where the temperatures surged up to 45°C and more. The cast (especially the British actors unused to the heat) were really brave in enduring the heat and pushing through the schedule.
This movie was a challenge to make, both in concept and also in practicality. But the team successfully pulled off this masterpiece and made it happen.
being pretty honest , you guys should react to The legend of Bhagat Singh , starring Ajay devgn . That movie has got a different fan following and trust me when i say this that these are the legends we should celebrate and support . If you know gandhi . You should definitely know Martyr Bhagat Singh . You did react to the trailer of that movie years back . Please react to that .

@@curiousmonk7990 The Bhuj shoot had already wrapped up way before the earthquake, and the team shifted to the Coastal town of Mandvi and its fort for the remaining British sequences.
However, after the earthquake struck the region and displaced hundreds of villagers from their traditional villages, the cast came together and donated around 25 lakh rupees to relief efforts, with more donations through the remainder of 2001.
I liked Lagaan even without the music. But, ARR took it to a whole different level. No surprise there though... he's done it many times before and after!

Elizabeth and Sue were the only female "foreigner" characters that have ever nailed their performance in a Bollywood movies. And both were in Amir khan movies. Usually all of indian cinemas get the foreigners to play the eye candy.
Elizabeth did a very tender act in Lagaan, I really felt bad for her in the end. She grew up with no friends, fell in love and that was it for the rest of her lonely life. Poor girl.
I think the actor who played captain russell really done brilliant job he actually made me hate that charector .

This movie is an absolute cult classic. The only Indian movie to be nominated for an Oscar for a best film category in past 20 years. This movie shows at what level Hindi cinema was at one point . It deserved the Oscar.
If only the committee didn't care for British sentiment, Sardaar Udham would have won.

and yes that's why a bad song like Naatu Naatu won. It isn't even the best song of RRR and you probably know it too.

'Lagaan' was clashed with another movie 'Gadar ek prem katha' on the day of Threatical realese, But unlike other clashes both the movies got the same HUGE response from the audience 🤗
Those were times people would watch both movies back to back. Cinema didn't cost a fortune either.

Andrew, you should have seen Syntell’s reaction to this movie.. especially when the white girl Elizabeth tells Bhavan she’s in love with him… our man Syntell just lost it & flipped out.. he was like, pretending to be Bhavan and said something like - “get your Snow White behind outta here.. I got important things to do, places to be. Don’t have time for this nonsense” or something to that effect. It was hilarious and amazing to watch Syntell. Brother was not feeling any of the love the girl felt for Bhuvan. He just shut it down 😂

Hi, I want to inform you that this movie lagaan's production designer Mr. Nitin Desai sir passed away around midnight 2nd August. sadly he committed suicide due to financial crisis. But we can never have such a great artist (production designer). Please note that he did approx. 300 movies as production designer in 30-33 years of his career in hindi- Marathi films including devdas, hum Dil de chuke Sanam, Jodha Akbar, lagaan etc. R.I.P. to nitin Desai sir🙏😔💐

I still remember Syntell (my fav reaction person from the Jaby family) reaction to that. It was an out of the body experience to see Syntell flip out on that. It was hilarious to watch. Syntell is usually funny during the movie and then turns into a monk at the end and delivers life altering philosophies in providing his commentary on the movie, but this movie I specifically recall Syntell not feeling the love for the White girl 😂

Andrew! You will like this fact, Lagaan was loosely a spin off of the American film "The Longest Yard". The main differences being, instead of Indian peasants playing cricket against Britishers, the American film is about poor Americans who play American-Rules Football against their landlords.

This movie teaches us the value of perseverance , it teaches us the importance of fighting till the end against all odds. This movie teaches us how to live life. Watch GADAR next, it released on same day as this Lagaan. We could watch Gadar then, I was teenager back then. Then watched Lagaan on TV, and I was so surprised, we joked before that Gadar is better, who watches cricket movie.. But both great movies, diff genre.
