In a sense I agree with the sentiment because all “defensive” navies like the ROKN and JMSDF have either “de facto” carriers, and helicopter carriers/ amphibious assault ships, like the Dokdo and Izumo class. That will take years though, but I can’t believe in the 80s Korea started building “indigenous ships.” Once we do that it’s only a matter of cost.

Although it is true as you say in the video that the A-29 was indeed designed for low threat environments at first, doctrine developments have shown it can be used even in enemy controlled airspace when using the "strike package" concept. This has been demonstrated by the interest Ukraine is showing.
This is because the Super Tucano isn't an armed version of a trainer plane, it's a completely new design specifically for this role. It's the only plane designed for the light attack role available in the world. People usually get confused because Embraer did start the project from the T-27 Tucano trainer (and also kept a similar name) but the plane was completely redesigned for the new role. Not a single part is shared between the two planes.
The A-29 is not a trainer! Even the Brazilian Air Force doesn't use it as a trainer. They use the Neiva Universal T-25 for basic training and the Embraer Tucano T-27 for advanced training. The A-29 is only used for 'Advanced Training' as a brief last stage before fighter pilots start flying proper fighter planes, so that they get used to a 4th generation glass cockpit without having to learn it while also minding other aspects of a fighter plane like a negative stability index.

The super Tucano is an advanced plane good for close air support. It looks old-fashioned because of its front propeller, but it is a High-tech plane though. It can arm with various weaponry like GPU 5A 30mm gun pod the same ammunitions A-10 thunderbolt has. So, we don't need to buy an A-10 warthog because its operation cost is way high compared to the super Tucano.

Indonesia has 16 EMB 314 / A-29 Super Tucano aircraft ordered & delivered since 2012. One was lost in a crash in February 2016. In March 2012, Indonesian Ministry of Defense informed the possibility of a future joint production, further modernization and sales in the Asia-Pacific region. These aircraft based in Air Squadron 21 at the lanud Abdul Rachman Saleh air base in East Java.

the EMBRAER A-29 Super Tucano light attack fighter should be armed with the 25 MM GAU-12/U Equalizer rapid fire rotary cannon instead of the .50 Cal!!! ofcourse this would require reinforcing the A-29 front fuselage & wing roots to sustain the recoil of large caliber rotary guns!!! in addition to the 25 MM rotary cannon, would be great if the A-29 Super Tucano could also be armed with three AGM-88 HARM II (Block 20+) anti-radiation missiles on interdiction fire support missions behind enemy lines & two AIM-9X Sidewinder air-to-air for self defense!!! and yes, the EMBRAER A-29 Super Tucano turbo prop light attack fighter is better than the TEXTRON AT-6C Texan II light attack fighter in more ways than one!!!

The dimesions and performance of the super tucano is comparable to that of the P-15 mustang, one of the best fighter planes of WW2.
its not the mustangs top speed is 703 km/h Super tucano's is 593 km/h, Super tucano's range is double the mustangs, and they have totally different engine, the mustang is a piston engine and the super tucano is a turboprop (its a jet engine that drives a propeller)

One thing is sure, if you are the enemy and undestimate this thing... you will be probably dead.
This is a great acquisition considering that it's cost effective however new unmanned combat aerial vehicle (UCAV) are completely changing the dynamic of warfare making this type of aircarft unreliable when drones are much cheaper, last 10x longer in the air, much safer for pilots, being able to provide Persistent-Close Air Support(P-CAS) while performing reconnaissance, surveillance and target acquisition, perscision airstrike and shelling tasks at the same time. Combat drones should be the most important component for anti insurgency operation. Last year alone (2020) we have witnessed massive use of combat drones of Turkey in Syria and Libya giving them decisive victory in just a short period of time and Armenia became the first country to surrender in a war after decades. AFP should consider this instead if they wanted to purchase additional units.
Too bad, there is no UCAV on the AFP's shopping list.. but i think, if we get one, it will probably be made in China(infamous LOONG/Rainbow) lol! Of course, PAF/DND is fully aware of this emerging trend in modern military warfare & even studying or considering it.. heck, US, israel, turkey & china offering their fancy ucav for a long time.. but PAF have their reasons that we(civilians) can't fathom/understand.. For me, there are still advantages in using the s. tucanos compared to ucav, like it has more speed/maneuver/fear factor, can carry more heavy weapon payloads(mixed variety)plus 50 cal. gun pod, it can also be use as a trainer bec. for its 4th gen avionics and capable of senseless deep diving on a taget(PAFs fave!)
@@fkelaomster2583 Chinese UCAV Long/Rainbow are actually very popular, many countries have hundreds of them like Saudi Arabia a close ally of US. That's right currently A29'a edge is that it can carry more payload and fly faster than most UCAV but not for long. Turkish Bayraktar Akinci is one of the upcoming drone that PAF can consider as it can do better than A29.

Since early last year 2020, There had been numerous news internationally of UCAV drones being used as military equipments 4 several warfare. Why not used this modern type drones in our counter insurgency, against abu sayaffs, illegal drugs trade transit, human trafficking etc. In short, more practical and COST EFFECTIVE 4 the AFP compared 2 using or buying more super tucanos.

Tucano means "Toucan", name given to the forest bird with big beak, by brazilian indian tribes.
The A - 10 Thunderbolt has a powerful canon and its structure manage fire that a Super Tucano A - 29 can't. But, the A - 29 can perform 70 % of missions of A - 10 with very low cost. One hour of flight of A - 29 costs 700 to 1000 dollars. One hour of flight of A - 10 costs 12000 to 17000 dollars.
An A - 29 can be 12 hours flying without refueling if it is with two new support tanks on wings.
The plane is brazilian, created by the world famous hungarian aircraft designer Joseph Kovacs.

There's several investors in Embraer and the four biggest investors are Brandes Investment Partners (US, 14,4%), Mondrian Investment Partners (United Kingdon, 10,1%), BNDESPar (Brazil, 5,4%) and the Blackrock (US; 5,0%).
That explain why US and United kingdom armies are using the Super Tucano at their aeronautics.

The Philippine Air force must have at least 2 to 4 squadrons of these type of aircraft for reconnaissance missions for our country' archipelagic island nation and vast sea water territories and it was cheap or low cost to operate! Theyre planning to get the used Kooryong multi-launch rocket system from South Korea first. Perhaps in the future we can get the HIMARS along with the LYNX system from Israel. The Lynx can launch the Delilah missile which is considered as loitering munitions, which were proven effective during the last Nagorno Karabakh War.
I am not confident about the Super Tuscano just like the Italian S-211 or SF-260 which figured in the bombing of our own troops in Marawi. I try not to forget that the Americans fought Spain during the Spanish-American war and that creates a dysfunction especially when "spiritual imposibilities" come up. A JTAC from the air force should be in order to make sure where the ordnance will fall. Smoke grenades and other ways to make sure the drop is accurate to a 100% no less. Take time to drop it.

They might want to use infrared beacons, one each for two teams for easy triangulation of the target in danger close situation (200 m).
