- A-29 Super Tucano aircraft arrive on the flightline at Moody Air Force Base.
The aircraft will provide the Afghan Air Force air-to-ground capability and aerial reconnaissance capabilities to support its counterinsurgency operations.
The aircraft, also known as Embraer EMB 314, is manufactured by Embraer S.A., a Brazilian aerospace conglomerate.

I find this airplane extremely, aesthetically pleasing
Contrary to what some people think, the A-10 and the A-29 are not competing, they are complementary.
The A-10 is perfect in large-scale war operations against regular forces, but it is very costly. The A-29 was designed to operate in insurgency and guerrilla situations.
The A-10 has an approximate cost per flight hour of $ 17,800. The A-29 has an approximate cost per flight hour of $ 750.
If you plan to sweep away regular enemy forces and conquer territory, A-10 is your choice. If you need to fight irregular forces like insurgency or guerrilla warfare for a decade or more as a new democracy consolidates, the A-29 is the best option. Otherwise your budget will not support the prolongation of the conflict. You will tend to cut costs, the war will escalate and you will lose all the work done.
For every problem on the battlefield, you need a specific solution.

I love this plane, my country's airforce have some of these and a lot of them are stationed in an airbase near my home. I love hearing them and especially when they pass above my house, it calms me down for some reason.
The only A-29 currently in civilian hands, flies in my part of Colorado cow country quite often. I was lucky enough to get a few pics when it was practicing low approaches.
That 1600hp will rattle you to the core.

From what I've seen, these are much lower cost than the fighter jets the US currently uses, they would not replace them but would play an excellent complementary role. Pilots are not that hard to train, and you can have ten of these for every dog-fighter jet.

..eu sou brazuca tbm. O S Tucano é uma excelente plataforma. Está pronta. Mas eles tinham uma plataforma que tinha um potencial ainda maior, que era o OV-10 Bronco. Mas por questões jurídicas de projeto acho q não foi pra frente.

This whole A-10 replacement controversy is so foolish. If I were in charge, I would march down to a company like Gruman and slap down a copy of the A-10 blueprints. I would say " This. THIS is what I want. Only bigger, stronger, faster, BETTER. You have 24 months. Make it happen!"

I noticed the design has the oil/coolant radiators are behind the propeller like the old P-40s. I have never understood why so many were located underneath. It cause engines to cook why they taxied.
