Thanks for making this! I got the game set up, read the rules and it all was simple enough, but the game is so open it’s hard to decide what to do at first!

This is one of the few games where the basic rules are actually (anecdotally) the most preferred. I don’t think you’re missing anything.

It’s called the “Trans-Mississippi Theater” in the game because it was called the Trans-Mississippi Theater during the actual Civil War. There was also a Far West Theater that involved what is modern day Southwest USA.
Re: Militia Units: they’re placed in resource/objective hexes that are friendly controlled and not isolated (17.2.1). So they have to go in the hexes that have the big black dots. The only one that stands out as needing to be moved is South Carolina.

Thanks, I missed the SC militia not being in a resource/objective hex. I will correct that.
I get why it’s called “Trans-Mississippi”, it just seems weird to my modern brain. Kind of like calling the Allies in WW2 the United Nations.

Thanks so much, this is super helpful. I’ve worked through the rulebook 4 times and I’m still bogged down in minutiae, so this is great!!

Thank you! That's why I make these videos, I want to help people learn to play. I do make mistakes so be sure to scan the comments. I also will talk about any errors that are mentioned at the start of each video.

Glad you're playing this, I believe the action card can only be used in the theater that is on the card. The Richmond fort should've used the 'any theater' card.

You are correct, my only defense is that the Player Aid card fails to remind us of that! 🙃

5:43 I really like cards with the sequence of play. As an alternative, I like documents that have SOPs with check boxes and also lists, within each turn, the exceptions present in each turn.

    I think:
    - Lyon is in Limited Supply because he can trace a LOC to Tuscumbia, which is Union controlled because Missouri is Union controlled at start.
    - the SP that attacked Charleston (WV) is not in Full Supply because he is too far from the Ohio River *without* a Port.
    - to build a Fort, you use an Special Action Card (for the Theatre, or 'Any') , but it does *not* cost an Action Point

Thanks for the clarification, that's what I was puzzling over too - it's taken me a long time to parse full vs limited supply!

Looking at my gaming for the year, I’m thinking I should give this a try in 2025.
