KRUGER NATIONAL PARK - some Highs and Lows as I make my way to SATARA Camp | Season 2, Day 5

  • We check out of Mdluli Safari Lodge and head North, firstly to Skukuza airport and then on to Satara Rest Camp. Early into our self-drive safari journey, we come across a BUFFALO who has clearly been caught up in a snare. After phoning through the unfortunate incident, we continue on our way - with magnificent sightings of Zebra, Elephant, Hippo and Kudu along the way. I spend a peaceful afternoon at the SWENI Hide, before heading back to SATARA camp for the night, and witness a magical sunset on the way back home, along what has become my favourite stretch of tar road in the Kruger Park.

Hi Graeme. We are just starting to catch up on your latest adventure and as usual you have provided us with a great video. Your style of presentation shows your love of the KNP and everything in it, not just the animals but the landscape as well. Your choice of background music completes your video and we feel that we are sitting there with you, shame we aren’t!We think you did the right thing in showing the poor buffalo and good to remind us all that we should report these things. All the best Karl & Alison

Thanks Karl & Alison - great to get your feedback once again and thanks for the compliments. Yes - it was hard seeing that poor Buff limp off into the bush like that.
Glad you’re catching up on the few days you missed - you’re in for a treat with some of the episodes after this one. Enjoy.

It was most likely a leopard snare... Really frustrating. Thank you for showing us the park! The landscape is still awesome.

You may be right…and I agree, it’s really frustrating not being able to do anything (meaningful) about it there and then. I’m glad you’re enjoying the content. Kruger really is such a special place.

Another nice episode! You are certainly braver than I am just getting to the H6/H1-3 junction just after sunset. I’m always too paranoid about missing curfew. Love that area as well between Satara, Tshokwane and the Sweni Hide. Looking forward to your next installment 👍

Hi Max - glad you like the content and music!
Unfortunately no news on the buff. We called it in and got assurance that the section ranger would take a look. Hard to know if he ever found that Buffalo though. Would be useful to be able to log it online and get a ‘ticket’ that could be followed up on and closed out, but doesn’t work like that right now.

Thanks Steffen - glad you’re enjoying. I used the GoPro Hero 8 for this particular safari, as well as the Canon M50 MKii with 70-200mm lens. Take care in Germany, and keep watching! 😉

Hi . Sorry only seeing these videos now Graeme and Karen. Wonderful experiences watching these and lioved the long road stretches. Thought I was right there! Thank you. Can I ask where you got the song about the river flowing to the ocean. 'Dig a little deeper' as background music? Absolutely beautiful but can't find the artist or group? Look forward to hearing from you when you have a moment.

Hey Helen, thanks for your comment. Happy to hear that you enjoyed the content - we loved every minute of the Kruger Park and can't wait to spend more time there. The song you are after is called "Solitary Drifter" performed by April Moon, featuring Michael Jaffe. We also loved the lyrics and thought it would be a perfect compliment to a day in the bush - glad you found it appropriate too ;-)

We just came fron 2 weeks Kruger. Had much highs but unfortunately very much lows. Did the Wolhuter Trail and had 4 dead poached rhinos in one walk. Did not see a single alive rhino on the Trail - poaching got worse during the pandemic :-(

    • @graemecumming

That’s heartbreaking Mickey. All in one spot, or at different locations? Definitely puts a damper on things when the reality of poaching hits you.
