  • @superlive98
    @superlive98 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    As I pointed out in my SUPERCOP comments, Hong Kong films of this era tend to either overtly or metaphorically reflect the anxiety over the 1997 Handover back to Mainland China. DRUNKEN MASTER 2 is among the most blatant in the original Cantonese version. The Stolen Chop plot includes an expository speech by Master Fu ranting against Chinese traitors who sell their nation's cultural treasures to foreigners. This is clearly directed to the thousands of Hong Kong bourgeois and intelligentsia who migrated (or planned to) other parts of the British Commonwealth. Nearly every aspect of the movie ties into that rant. Wong Fei-Hung decides to break up the smuggling operation so that his unborn sibling will grow up as part of a China with an intact historical legacy. The chop itself is a symbol of Chinese sovereignty and keeping it out of British hands is an allegorical statement referring to Hong Kong. The mad rush of people trying to board the train are refugees fleeing warlords fighting for control of China during the anarchic Nationalist period. The scene parodies the aforementioned emigration of Hong Kong bourgeois in the 1980-90s. Even the end fight in this film is highly symbolic: a westernized kickboxing capitalist versus a traditionally dressed Wong Fei-Hung using Chinese kung fu.

    As a blackbelt in both Ryukyuu no justu (Okinawan martial arts) and a blackbelt in Tae Kwon Do. I can confirm that trying complex martial arts techniques while inebriated is always a bad idea trust me I have tried and it never ends well.

    honestly fratboy as an amercanized version of the drunken master or a super hero parody would be a pretty great name comedic and gets the point mostly across.

    Jackie Chan movies are so much better when they are actually about Jackie Chan, and not partnering him up with someone else for no goddamn reason.

    Plus you know the Jackie Chan really crawled backwards over a bed of coals. That adds a lot. If it were CGI, I wouldn't care one bit.

    Fun fact, Anita Moi was one of Jacky's leading ladies in his early charier. To see her get demoted as her step mom is a little sad though, but no body would have been able to top her performance in this movie.
