I have been a calligrapher and illuminator for more than 30 years, this is perhaps the most inspiring talk on the subject I have had the pleasure to have listened to. Well presented. Wish I had seen it sooner.

I fell in love with Illuminated Manuscripts when I was in high school, after I saw an art show and exhibit at the Wichita, KS Public Library. Recently, while recuperating, I bought animal skin vellum and used ink, pen and acrylics to do replicas for friends of mine. They loved them, and they are "okay"but my talent pails in comparison to the Medieval scripts done by the artists of centuries ago.

Thank you very much for your answer. I'd also like to say that, in addition to the educative content of her lecture specific to the subject matter--quite fascinating, really--, doctor Dormer has tought me a lot about the art of delivering a clear, entertaining and well structured exposition.

We are preparing the lecture videos now and they will be online soon [11th June 2012].
The transcripts are already available on the Gresham website (address in the lecture blurb).

Thank you for uploading this lecture :)
One of the courses that I'm attending now (Germanic Philology) focuses just on this subject. Having been studying for a few months now, I knew the majority of the things that were said, but it was interesting to hear them nonetheless! This Dr. Dormer has such a calming voice and she really looks like she's passionate about the subject, people that are passionate about their field of research or their work are a blessing :)

You can also buy single pages at auction and reputable dealers. I would avoid eBay though.

since this lecture is about a visual topic of great beauty{Medieval Manuscripts},there is no reason to so rarely show the slides. The narration would work better if the slides were shown continually with more supporting visual information. There is no reason on TH-cam,to present a lecture exactly as it is performed in a lecture hall. The very visual nature of TH-cam works perfectly with a continual visual flow....not a lecture dominated by a static figure...but the dynamic of illuminated visual forms continuing to enchant us with their visual beauty & "illuminated" also through the verbal explanation but not dominated by it.
