I just love how open and vulnerable you are with your family and your PERSONAL business. How awesome that you can help teach or lead someone in the right direction for their own family. I personally love genetics, think they are just the most interesting and even loved studying it in school. This kind of stuff fascinates me so much and I'm very thankful you have chosen to share this part your family for the viewers. It's raw, its real life and its authentic.

Knowledge is power. Its always better to have more information about yourself. It’s brave and vital that you did all of this testing. Not to mention historic that it’s being documented. You handle all of this beautifully and I love learning from your videos. Most importantly you lead with science and then share new information as it comes available/changes.

I have a hard time commenting but I would like to say that I would be incredibly grateful for a video concerning your journey with being evaluated for autism as an adult. I won't go into details about myself but I think that hearing the perspective of an adult going through the process -as an adult- would be incredibly valuable to me as well as others. Thank you for your videos.

Autism, ADHD, sensory issues or not, you're kids are all great! Knowledge is power, and it's great for them to have this information going forward (just like it is for you to have this information now). The most important thing is that they're healthy, happy, and taken care of, and you're doing a great job with that!

the main reason I'm watching this (and a bunch of your other videos) is I recently came to suspect that I may have level 1 autism or ADHD, so for months I've been watching a pile of vids on the subject. I'll really appreciate any videos you do on the subject of your experiences and autism assessment. I'm 18, starting college this fall, and hoping to get some sort of assessment from university psychiatry services as I know they do ADHD assessment and it's not very expensive.

Yeah and I think if she watched and found out she did have ASD, she would see that autism isn’t some tragic disease, it’s actually just having a brain that’s wired a little differently, and most people we consider creative or scientific geniuses have the exact same wiring. Autistic people can have full amazing lives

When I see your videos I feel much better 😊

Happy Birthday Stephanie. I hope you have a great birthday.
I feel for you guys alot information and knowledge is power but can't be stressful and emotional too.
I love your channel and your guys positivity and realism and just acocating for your kids yourselves on Austin rights and for so many other ppl even ones you don't even know.
That makes you guys so cool and awesome. And your raising cool awesome ppls too.
I am older than you my birthday is now in 4 days on thrusday the 30th and it's Sunday the 26th.
But you and so many others give me hope that ppl who have ADHD or Atuism or both or anything can be brave postive and have good postive happy lives and be successful in ways that matter most.
I feel like you and others alot like I've always been differnt than other ppl my whole life since I was a kid and feeling werid or strange etc in bad negative ways because ppl even when I was a kid treated me negatively for things I couldn't help. Like I didn't ask to be born with what I have and stuff.
I have a referral to a neurologist now and still on to a Neuro psychologist. To be screened for Atusim and to get correct mental health diagnoses to just con firm my depression aniexty and ptsd. And reveals to differnt places to find out what's causing alot of my physical chronic health stuff too once and for all. Andi think I should have that genie array test. Esp since iam working with my Dr to be screen by a spieaclist for Elos Danlos syndrome. Maybe that's were the Neuro logist comes in. Also getting more stranger headaches more often and was in the er recently and they ran lots of tests and a chest x-ray and a head and a separate adbomenal ct and nothing major is wrong or detected be live me they would have told me. And most of the test came back showing nothing which is very good very tension relieving postive news. It did showed I have a very common embarssing thing a UTI. Sigh. But they also tested my thyroid so I should get that back soon.
I mention Ellos Danlos because I have hyper mobile joints and it's a disease that affects the colangen in the human body. And it has like 9 differnt types and sub calories probably more. It's a very complicated thing like Atusim and ADHD and other stuff.
And what my many extra things I have that seem separate and not connected are. And I wonder what chromeasomes it affects too and where and etc.
    Even more complicated stuff.
Yeah it's exhausting and alot for some many other ppl to hear and deal with and me. So imanion how I and others feeling dealing with it. Like we all didn't ask to be so extra etc with health stuff and I feel educated and tired with it and of it. Be live me.
And iam not excuse ing myself or feeling sorry for my self. I just want clear answers so I can know where to go forward and have a plan of action and to get and do better and just maintain and not lose any more than I have.
I know I sound so obsessive and very unhealthy. But I try really hard not to focus on my stuff or and issues and work hard to do other stuff and I care more about others than my self and even iam sick of this negative frame of mine.
But it's hard not to be when stuff causes my problems and I have ppl in my life just punish me and treat me with hate because iam so differnt esp my own family. I don't have love and support from them and really did not ever had. And that's sad. And on them but I still have family and real good true friends and ppl who are my family now.
So yeah it's a mixed blessing. But iam ok going to be ok and things are most good and iam good . And I just couscous on the positives more and more and just take things as they come and keep moving forward.
But iam so glad there are family's who are awesome and value there family members and who are good postive ppl in every sense of the word and have channels and advocate on rights for everyone esp children who have spieal needs disabilities and differences.
You guys give your children strength and love and the will suceed and shine for it they all ready are.
God I don't want to bug ppl out and I don't usually open up about my self so much.
But my mama wad a very good person and a good judge of character and a fierce mama bear and really fought and advocate for me and my older sister so we could have the best lives possible and alwanted the best because she loved us unconindialy and fully accepted us that way too.
Like me and tons of human beings she was flawed. And things were never perfect but they were real and positive and good and when I became and adult we grew even closer and became friends.
She's been gone 51/2 yrs now. And I esp miss her around important dates holidays and birthdays.
Yeah iam a little sad wistful and still grieving.
But iam ok and and I know iam a good person though flawed and a kind care human being all things good and postive because of her and other good postive ppl personally in my life. And that's very very important. Some ppl don't have any of that at all. And there should just be more of it and Gueine real and good and postive kindness and aceptness more. And more ppl doing that and etc.
Yeah I do have problems and challenges to overcome always that's life. But it's how you look at it and deal with it and treat ppl and handle yourself and move on toward under around above or threw things that matters.
Yeah when I get talking I get excessive one of my adhd behaviors.
A gift it gives me iam very creative and artistic. Not a expert in one certain thing but good in lots of differnt arts and arts and crafts. I like to make things esp to dectorat my home but to bring lots of pops of differnt colors and textures and designs to my home and change it or rotate every so often and I keep stuff that has meaning to me and tense the rotating.
And I have a good eye for design s and patterns and color corindation. Those are part of my strengths and making good photos and beaded Jeweraly etc mainly necklaces.
Even buying things on sales at stores taking them home and apart and reusing the beads etc in New ways and patterns.
It's fun and soothing and I got to get back to it.
So I thought I'd be brave and open and share and be postive and even show how some of my stuff gives me such great tremonus gifts I treasure and will so always.
And I might not ever know the answers to why I have my stuff or what it even is. So this like other hard things iam learning to deal with and let go of too. Like lots of just old bagged and stuff from the past that has kept me stuck and held me back as an adult.
Love all that I have now and the amazing ppl and critters in it mainly my 2 cats.
And have an awesome birthday Stephanie and latter Danielle's sweet sixteen later in the week.
It's so good to see you all loving your lives now what you have and all the amazing ppl and maybe critters in it or not.
Thanks everyone have a great afternoon or what ever.
P.s. please excuse the mis spellings bad grammar and even wrong words. I have problems with spelling and language mechanics to start off with and have ing to deal with tech issues. Including my phone that has an auto correct program. That has not ever acted right or apporraitely and makes me even more embarsed of my spelling and language mechanics problems. Thought I should let everyone know this. Again thanks.

Finding out you carry a genetic abnormality can be devastating. I have three children Jordan 20, Ashley 19, and Alyssa 15. When Jordan was four we found out he has duchenne muscular dystrophy, and I am the one who gave it to him. His diagnosis came after I had my two daughters. I get the question too. "why would you have more children?" I don't know if I would have chosen to have more children if I had known. Feeling guilty is a daily emotion for me and only feeds my anxiety and depression. Also my daughter's are carriers of the gene too. I chose to have them tested before 18 too. Education is everything. I am so glad there are places for families to get answers and talk to others about these things. You are an amazing mom and do everything you can to help guide your beautiful babies through this difficult disease. Knowledge is power💚You are an inspiration to me and my family💚

Yes, can you please do a video on adult and your process on getting evaluated and what did they do to you so they can determine if you have autism. I have a 2.5-year old who has autism and my 9 years old falls on the spectrum but they do not consider him autistic because he only falls on 2 out of the 3 categories. my 9 years old also has ADHD & ODD and I myself found out about 2 years ago that I have ADHD. I actually was shocked. So I think this would so be beneficial. I also am getting my 2.5-year-old genetic testing but due to COVID, it was put on hold. His name is also Liam. Watching these videos are so educational and I am learning a lot. Thank you so much for these videos. ;) You have an amazing family and God bless each and every one of you guys. I have 4 boys myself. ;)

I found out after my daughter's birth that my mother's aunt was autistic but since it wasn't known or named , they came up with the lie that she poisoned herself drinking kerosene. I met her in a home when i was really young.
After being verbally abused by my family saying i had a flawed body, my aunt and cousin told me the truth in cousin. I thought back to my aunt. She made the same sounds as a way to communicate and other things that is now apart of the new and growing science behind autism.
Overtime, it became clear with my son,who was with another guy, and my younger cousin's diagnosis.
Due to the crap i went through speaking up for my daughter, It helped others down the road. My son and I most of all.I was recently and properly diagnosed with ADHD after decades of being treated for bipolar. Something i always denied.
And because of people like you and your family, you have allowed others to know that we are not alone and there is hope for my kids and myself in the future. Thank you so much.

Lena Annis that’s just a bs excuse to be mean and nasty. Just because someone puts their family on TH-cam doesn’t mean they deserve to be subjected to rude treatment. And I totally disagree about the question; it is nosy, and in no way a legit question to ask someone that you don’t even know.

100% agree! Sadly people feel like they have a right to know every aspect about people's lives and to criticize especially when it comes to those that have social media, especially vloggers. Just because someone puts a portion of their/family's lives online does NOT give anyone the right to know everything about them. They should be able to keep certain things private and viewers shouldn't judge. It is just a lame excuse to use that "they put their lives out there so they should be used to criticism". It's honestly rude.... This actually brings me to myself. I am disabled and always wanted children even before becoming disabled. I have 2 children, Irish twins. My oldest will be tested for Autism mid Sept and my youngest was born with a heart defect. If I decide to have anymore children it does NOT give anyone the right to judge me. They do not financially or physically support me. Can they ask in a caring way like, "were you scared to have another child? Are you scared that it will become too much?" But to straight out say, "why in the world would you have more kids" is rude....

Genetics are so interesting! We had our son tested (he just turned 4 - walks on toes, hand flapping when excited, mild speech delay) and he’s adopted. He has 4 birth siblings, one of whom is in the spectrum. That child happens to have a different birth dad than the other 4 though! Developmental pediatrician doesn’t believe he’s on the spectrum.

My son I mean she doesn’t believe is. I still worry. But it’s interesting - is the birth sibling a random case or was it passed from dad? Who knows.

Since I have started watching your videos I have been thinking about having myself checked as well. Maybe even my children and grandchildren. I do not see how it can hurt anything. I always had a hard time in school and I had to take speech therapy and so did both of my children. My dad didn't start talking until he was 7 years old.. do you have any advice for me thank you in advance. Oh yeah my dad and myself have a hard time reading. The way we read hard words is spell it out loud than try to say it. There are other 5hings as well. Probably to many to list here.

I was diagnosed with social anxiety however I am a preschool teacher and have worked with many children with Autism and started to understand it a bit more (not a professional in any way) but now I am starting to wonder if I am on the spectrum. I am pregnant with my first child and have been wondering about getting evaluated as an adult. Just to know if I have potential to pass it down to my children.

I'm absolutely fascinated with genes and chromosomes, I think because I have an extra chromosome in my 23rd pair, thus making me trisomy 23. I love figuring out what information each gene holds. I was in speech therapy for a few years and recently started realizing that I'm a bit different (never been diagnosed with anything but I think something is up).

We need to take in account that science doesn’t know which gens exactly do cause autism, recently they have identified some that are very likely to be related to cause it, it is believed it is more than one, but it is still unknown if any external influences may interfere too or other factors meaning that to answer your question we really need to wait science and medicine to advance more, in any case gens modifications are involved for sure. Love from Holland.

Why would people ask you if you feel guilty??? A friend of mine had a grandmother who had a malformation of the heart. My friend´s mother had lots of siblings and only one aunt died from a heart attack in her early 30s. So before having children, my friend got herself tested and found out she had a genetic abnormality that could lead to this malformation but she wasn`t clinically affected by it. If she had a child, the chances were 25% they would have the genetic abnormality but that didn`t mean they`d have the heart malformation. She had two children and unfortunately they both have the heart malformation... and they are both happy, wonderful kids. And it would be so unfair to ask her if she "felt guilty" for having them. People... :-/

I'm wanting to try to have a baby and I've been struggling basically since I was 12 with the idea that I could give my children special needs and they will have to struggle with being different like I did. I've been back and forth with it for awhile. I always have felt guilty like it would be all my fault and my kid would hate me. I have always planned on adopting my children but as I'm getting older I kinda wanna try to experience birth as well (I have severe PCOS and might not be able to be pregnant) I'd love to hear what other people think.

    • @CaitlinAMcCaslin
      @CaitlinAMcCaslin 4 ปีที่แล้ว

You don't get genetic testing to see if you have autism, because you can be autistic and not have any known genetic abnormalities, and you can also have genetic abnormalities that contribute to autism and not be autistic. But sometimes a link between a genetic abnormality and someone's autism can be established. To get genetic testing, you should talk to a primary care doctor about it. They might be able to get the genetic testing done for you, or they might refer you to a geneticist to get it done. I believe the test that Steph and her family have gotten done is the Chromosomal Microarray Analysis, but I'm not sure.
