    good for Lex. some kids thrive in school and being with their peers. Lex probably feels better knowing he’s with kids his own age and is wanting to do what their doing. it’s going to help with his social skills.

    I have ADHD as well and my mom was given similar options. I stayed in my original grade and it was the best thing for me. I was at an independent school but had academic services which helped me a lot. I loved hearing this update. Lex is such a little light!

    • @KatTheTruth
      @KatTheTruth 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@SittingPRETTY727 you definitely can! You can also get your own evaluation done independent of the school district. As a kid, my parents were always asked by my school district if they wanted me to skip 2 grades and go straight from kindergarten to 3rd grade but my parents knew it was a bad idea because of my at the time undiagnosed autism, I had trouble making friends and they knew that having a 7 year old with 10 year olds would be a bad idea in my personal case. I currently run a company with over 50 locations across the us and have a well paying salary. Just wanted to share a similar experience and how well it worked out for me.

    I'm in a special ed unit at my school, all the time. I can't cope in the classroom, and honestly, I can't cope in the kind of special ed they offer where I live either. I've always had issues with school, and for the last few years, I've been absent most of the time.
    I was always good academically as a kid in most subjects I could pay attention to. Generally developmentally and academically, I was ahead a lot as a kid (not with everything, though) and was seen as quite mature, but at some point things kind of stopped, and now I would probably be considered immature for my age, and behind academically. Feels like my life has consisted of an early sprint then getting too tired to finish the race.
    Currently I'm for the most part not attending school; they took away my 1 to 1 (somdtimes 2 to 1) assistant and blamed that on funding (which really shouldn't be an issue, the school has all ability to get help from other instances easily) and that in particular has really screwed me over. There are also a whole bunch more students in my class, the area we are in has been completely renovated, there are new teachers and new stuff on the timetable, and it's all just not okay for me. The school doesn't seem to care, though.
    There have been meetings where things like this have supposedly been discussed, but nothing's come out of it. I want to go to school, but I can't. I end up sitting in the hallway waiting to be able to be picked up, I can't cope. Hopefully something will be sorted out soon, but as its looking now, I'm not sure it will.

    Aww! I’m so proud of Lex! He is super smart. Do you think if Noah had gotten services earlier he would’ve been like Lex? I can’t help knowing that Noah seems like a very smart kid. He’s also reading good too. I remember when you had him read some books on the channel. He did so good. He is a great kid. And so is Lex. I’m glad they say good stuff about him at first in the IEP meeting. With my mom in my IEP meeting they didn’t do any of that. They just started in on her and tried to say the school wasn’t a good fit for me. I went to a Montessori school first in Kindergarten and then I went back in the fifth grade. The teacher wasn’t a very good teacher. She loved me the first semester, but she hated me the second semester lol. Can’t get crazier than that. And other people have said that she is crazy too. I’m like, “It’s obvious she’s crazy.” She’s gotten several divorces because she doesn’t get along with her husband lol. I tell people to beware her. But I survived her lol. She doesn’t bother me anymore. She tried to say I hit somebody on purpose with my lunchbox in the hallway. I did not. I was swinging my lunchbox and I just happened to hit somebody with the lunchbox lol. Check the camera lol. That’s what it’s for. Still, I loved my experience there. I loved my experience at every school. There were remnants of people in my life that helped me get to where I was at in life. And I am so appreciative of them. Well, thanks for sharing! Have a great day!

    Are you teaching any of your other kids to read? I learned to read at age 3-4 in a self directed way, but I also think from eavesdropping on my sister (2 years older) being taught to read or just wanting attention too so hanging around listening or something. I started kindergarten at age 4 due to already being able to fully read. The age was a huge problem later, because I think waiting a bit longer would have made math and social skills easier for me. I also have ADHD and maybe ASD but my mom didn't want me tested as a kid or labelled... When I had my own insurance at age 26 I went and got an assessment for ADHD only and treatment finally.
    My potty habits sucked at age 4 haha... I'd ignore it for too long until I couldn't hold it anymore. I also was afraid of interrupting in the classroom so held it for too long and fully peed pants once or twice in kindergarten due to being afraid in class to ask or just run out. ...often had dribble issues due to waiting too long :(

His parents put him into ARVA and it did not take long for the special ed lady to see what was going on, even his kinder class teacher. Sorry for so much info. I’m really sorry you had such an awful experience with the special education team in Florida. I’m a Florida general education teacher and starting out IEP meetings with something positive about the student is supposed to be best practice. I always make it a point to start out any communication with parents with something positive about their child. Unfortunately, some teachers don’t have the same philosophy. As a parent of a neurodiverse child, public education is a tricky landscape. It’s not set up for neurodiverse kids and sometimes people don’t appreciate how hard navigating a system that isn’t set up for you can be every day. Hopefully, things continue to move forward and people will become more knowledgeable about neurodiverse kids and how to best accommodate them.
