@@markcooper4876 naw its always a shocking part and you are just so ready to have Coin die you dont think about it! That means you watch movies in the moment!
Gale may not be well versed in art of war… But he’s an expert hunter… great with trapping prey. He helped design the double bomb that killed Prim… he may have not thought it will be used against people he loves, but his device killed both friends and foe. Katniss having kids showed that she has finally accepted that they are living in a world where there is no fear of reaping for the hunger games. 😊
War takes innocent lives. It sucks seeing it happen in cinema because we're so accustomed to the 'happily ever after' but this series was never meant to follow that cookie-cutter design. As soon as Prim's name was called, she began racing to her death. That poor 12-year-old girl went through multiple cycles of thinking she was going to die only to be spared and then go right back to thinking she was going to die. The reaping: her name gets called = death. Katniss volunteers = Prim is saved but it immediately goes back to death since Katniss is the provider of the family. Katniss wins the Games = saved. Katniss goes back to the Games = death. Katniss destroys the arena and District 12 gets bombed = almost death but saved by District 13. Coin allows the far too-young Prim to train to be a doctor = saved. Coin makes everyone think Katniss is dead, then allows Prim to go to the Capitol where the two-tiered explosions will happen = death. The worst part for Prim was the few seconds before the second explosion went off. Finding out her sister was still alive and she had been lied to (the lie of her sister being dead which is what likely pushed her to want to go help as a medic.) I might be thinking about that scene too much but the actress that played Prim appeared to go through around four different emotions. Shock, confusion, realization, and anger. So basically, the one time she would not have been expecting to go to her death is when she was killed. The worst always happens when it is least expected.
Suzanne Collins' editor tried to talk her out of killing Prim but she refused because that was the one thing she had decided from the beginning. Prim was always going to die. Also, the editor forced her to include the love triangle because the book was marketed for teenagers. Gale was originally meant to be Katniss' cousin which is referenced in the books. Finally, Katniss never wanted to have kids because of the Hunger Games so she has them at the end because she finally feels safe enough to. It takes about a decade so we know their society is actually evolving well. I highly recommend the books: so much more backstory , lots of stuff that got cut, and many more details. The movies did her mom dirty and Katniss herself is really smart and observant, a survivor through and through and you get that with her narration. Also, her dad's influence on almost everything that helps her survive. Overall, the movies are great but the books are much, much darker so it's also a matter of being able to stomach even more evil and tragedy.
It's war. People die. Totally randomly in many cases. The books do what they were designed to do - teach 12-18 year old students about politics and war. Susanne Collins is a brilliant writer.
As sad as it was to see Prim die, especially as Coin's pawn to brutally devastate Katniss to the point she wouldn't be a threat to Coin's presidency, it made sense for the story. Every move Katniss made was to protect Prim and, at the end of it all, she still couldn't. It also showed Gale how such extreme apathy towards the enemy's civilians can backfire and hurt your own people. I hate that Rue died, but it kickstarted Katniss' rebellion in the 74th Games. I hate that Boggs died because he was honest with Katniss and saw her for who she was, not just The Mockingjay, but it made sense because he needed to pass leadership on to her. .. I hate Finnick's death the most, though. It broke me. After everything he went through with being the youngest winner of the Games at 14, being pimped out by Snow, falling in love with a very mentally unwell Annie, getting reaped back into the Games, losing his surrogate mother/mentor Mags to poison fog (and knowing since she volunteered at the reaping that he wouldn't be able to protect her to the end), being re-traumatised by it and by Annie being captured, finally getting to marry Annie (albeit in less than ideal conditions), choosing to fight for what's right, trying to help Peeta recover the way Annie did, then dying at 24 years old in a horrific way. He could have narrowly made it and they could still have used the Holo to blow up the Mutts. The other deaths, while tragic, all served a purpose. His didn't. It felt like that one was just to hurt the readers/audience. Lieutenant Jackson and Castor had already been killed by the Mutts, so he didn't need to be as well. .. That aside; outstanding story from start to finish. I wonder how you'll feel about Snow's backstory in BOSAS, if you watch it. I think it was really good, but some folks miss the lead up to him becoming who he was and find it jarring. I think you're very observant, though, so you'd probably be putting it together as it happens :)
Finnicks death destroyed me more than any other book characters death! I literally bawled. I think though that was the point of his death…the pointlessness of it was the point. That’s what happens in war good people die deaths they don’t deserve and it happened ultimately for absolutely nothing because the mission was a failure.
@@FirstNameLastName-wt5to - beneficial and necessary are not the same thing. There are many ways the cost of war is shown. His death adds to it, but isn't necessary. With Rue, Prim, those blowing up the dam in D5, PTSD, the injured bombed in D8, the others killed with Prim.... Finnick's death wasn't necessary, but reinforces it.
@@essentiallyinvisible3572 Keeping Finnick alive would’ve lessened the cost of war. Real war doesn’t spare people because they’re good and loved. It just takes and takes. Prime. Was not supposed to be in the front lines of the war., she was too young, she would’ve needed permission from the high up for example, coin. Coin specifically put prim in the front lines on purpose.
Done just in time for the prequel! If it makes you feel better, Prim is not the character sent to talk to Peeta in the books. Gale joined the army of District 13. They didn't make that clear in the previous movie. Katniss' plan to join the fighting is also not as dumb in the books. She has to train to join the army. Her and Johanna do it together. But Katniss beats the final test (Coin doesn't believe she will follow orders) while Johanna does not beat hers (her fears of water after being tortured in water). Then Katniss is assigned to Boggs' squad because her and Boggs are tight (I was sad they cut some of the her and Boggs bonding bits from the last movie just because I love Mahershala Ali. Even just the one joke he makes about Finnick in the bookwould've satisfied me). Though he doesn't say so, he knows what she wants to do and supports her. "Mutts" are Panem slang for mutations. Anything the Capitol created in a lab, basically. The dogs from the first movie, and even Peeta are called "mutts".
Those things are not included because the movies didn't need it. Books need to read well -- movies need to flow well. Books have the liberty to be more grounded but movies are all about the spectacle and sensationalism. Same story, different approaches. It's quite fascinating from a creator standpoint.
Yeah I liked all the movies overall...but its pretty disappointing how the Mockingjay got two movies instead of one...but they still left out a lot...my biggest complaints off stuff they left out is 1) The humour between Boggs and Katniss and the rest of their squad and how Boggs death was a surprise moment when they actually all had a moment to laugh and forget the war...and then bam explosion. (Actually I think he was the one that died in the net in the book 2) The capital girl Katniss kills in her house. It was a self reflective moment for her and showed her as flawed too 3) The ending monologue Katniss gives explaining why she chose Peeta over Gale...that could have been so easily included and I don't know why it wasn't. 4) I wish we got the one book death where the light caused the guy to freeze and then have his skin slowly melt off...instead of the fast and more sci-fi one we got. 5) I wish they better demonstrated Katnisses immediate reaction to Peeta planting roses as her thinking Peeta was having another episode and was planting roses to taunt her like Snow did...but then he tells her its Primeroses. I really liked how Katniss immediately went into shock and angry and fear over Peetas actions...but then he tells her it's a Primerose... Anyways those are the left out/changed things from the book that I wish were in the movie.
The term "mutts" refers to "muttations" which is how the word "mutations" has changed over time in Panem. So, it just refers to an organism that has been created or altered through science.
I have a bone to pick with Suzanne too...of everyone who died, Finnick is the one left me questioning why. Prim was a tragic irony that I eventually accepted but Finnick to me, really deserved to survive. I would have rather lost Gale than Finnick to be honest 😭😅 but Gale's fate is worse than death. He has to live with his decisions; knowing he was partially responsible for killing Prim and severing any chance of any kind of relationship with Katniss
I mean, it's war. One of the things I respect most about this series is that it takes the horror of dictatorships and war seriously. IMHO the Hunger Games would be far less powerful if no beloved main characters died unpoetic and senseless deaths.
The fact Suzanne Collins even said herself that she regrets killing off Finnick makes it all the more devastating knowing that his death was so unnecessary to the plot and very much preventable

i’m sure you’ve gotten this suggestion already, but i would LOVE to see your reaction to the new hunger games prequel. i think it’s an amazing movie and there are so many connections to pick out!
Please react to the movie from this year. The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. Also Prim die because of Coin, she was to young to be a doctor but Coin send her anyway knowing about the second bomb. Also I think Gail understand in that moment the thing that Katniss say to him 'all kiling are personal' something like that when they were with Briane
They did an amazing job on Peeta, dont know how they made him look so decimated. So happy Peeta and Katniss end up building a family. Even tho we dont have reapings we still send kids to war. I remember in the early 70s, kids as young as 14 were being drafted for Vietnam. But as with this film and many others kids r resourceful, smart, braver than most all adults and truthful to their causes. We adults could learn a lot from kids, including avoiding war. As with Prim, I couldnt agree more with ur frustration. Really enjoyed watching the series with ya, Thanx so much, Peace
Criminal that you haven't reacted to a Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes yet. I really enjoyed watching this series from you. The Hunger Games series has been a favourite of mine since I was a kid. I hope you got a chance to go back and read the books because, as most of the comments are saying, there truly is so much more lore in them. (Especially with the announcement of a book based around Haymitch's game on the horizon.)

Mutts are genetically engineered monsters, In the first film, the dog things shown were different in the books. They mixed the dna of the fallen tributes into the creatures so each creature looked like a different tribute. So the capitol was doing some crazy stuff, hence why Peeta thought Katniss was a mutt becauae of the mind jacking, so even though it looked like Katniss, he was convinced she was a monster. It's also why yhe creatures in the sewers looked humanoid, they probably had some human dna in them.
UGH YESSS FINALLYYYY UR WATCHING ITT Edit: I need to have my notifications on cus how tf did this upload an hour ago?? Edit 2: you should watch the maze runner trilogy it’s so good
New to your channel, 💖 your Hunger Games commentary. My suggestions aren't series films, but they're dark like HG 1. Hunt For The Wilderpeople (manhunt on walkabout) 2. In America (Life, Death, 3 wishes) 3. Memento (Christopher Nolan's best?) 4. Inside Man (a different kind of bank heist) 5. The Martian (loneliness is a luxury) 6. Intacto (what would you do for Luck?) 7. Triplets of Belleville (trippy animation, fantastic score, and nuance) 8. Celebration (Danish film, wicked twist, satisfying ending) 9. Power of the Dog 10. Magnolia 11. Snowpiercer (a different kind of dystopia) 12. Man Called Ove
i can't believe you said just Kill Peeta the dude got tortured and send on a mission when he was clearly not mentally ready for it so no try to keep him on a watch but killing him it's extreme.
Tbf he was a liability and literally killed one of their team. I love Peeta and I’m glad he didn’t die, but keeping him alive was a legitimate risk to their safety at a certain point :p
5:11 and THAT right there is exactly why I don’t hate Gale 💁🏽♀️ Gale has always had a brain for war and always wanted a revolution. Katniss takes issue with the violence required for change and I get that that makes her more relatable. But nah. I tend to agree with characters like Gale and Joanna
I mean he designed a bomb specially to kill healers. I know he didn’t know it’d be used on kids, but killing nurses is literally a war crime. They’re there to help save as many lives as possible, side doesn’t matter to them.
Really like watching you react to this and I subscribed to your channel 😊 if you're looking for something new and you haven't already seen it I very highly suggest Band of Brothers! People have probably already suggested it to you but it really is a great show that will make you feel just about every emotion. I'm watching it with a few other TH-camrs right now and I'd love to see your reaction as well! Also the Band of Brothers fans will show up that's for dang sure LOL I myself have watched it at least twice a year since it came out in high school if not more and I know there's a lot more like me out there LOL whatever you pick I hope you enjoy it!😊
Oh please watch the Maze Runner movies next! There is no dystopian era without this trilogy - great visuals (with less cgi than you might expect), great cast & acting, sense of realism - it stands out compared to the Hunger Games and it's a pretty entertaining one to react to 🔥 it will keep you on the edge of your seat the whole time!
also: - Jumanji (1995) - Big Fish (by Tim Burton) - Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind - Lemony Snicket: a series of Unfortunate Events --- *the movie* (not the netflix series) from 2004 with Jim Carrey they would be great ones to react to imo.
Chernobyl is a 5 part series, true story, that would be good to react to! I The Hunger Games series are the first time I've watched your channel, and I subbed -- thanks !!!
Bro spent the entire series talking about the realities of war but failed to understand the lack of information and fast pacing was Katniss's, a child with ptsd, perspective during active war. And then complained that the realistic war time ending where people die and politics are in volved was a bad ending 😂
Nah not really. I just liked prim and Boggs so wanted their characters to live. I also wanted more from snow. He spent most of the last 2 movies behind a screen so as the main antagonist of the franchise i don’t think I’m crazy for expecting more from him in the final act of the finale. But yeah, not a bad ending, It just fell short in some elements
Yes! I've been waiting for this There is a prequel coming out Friday please react to the trailer it takes places 64 years before katniss. The book was great and I'm excited for the movie. It's called the ballad of songbirds and snakes.

edit: literally clicked on your frozen reaction after commenting this and 2 minutes in you mentioned how to train your dragon ... lol pls feel free to ignore this 😭
Mutts are genetically engineered monsters, In the first film, the dog things shown were different in the books.
UGH YESSS FINALLYYYY UR WATCHING ITT
Edit: I need to have my notifications on cus how tf did this upload an hour ago??
Edit 2: you should watch the maze runner trilogy it’s so good
Your reaction to Prim, Finnik and Coins deaths were the same as mine....instant follow for the great reaction!
when i first read the last book i cried for fucking daysssss.
New to your channel, 💖 your Hunger Games commentary. My suggestions aren't series films, but they're dark like HG
1. Hunt For The Wilderpeople (manhunt on walkabout)
2. In America (Life, Death, 3 wishes)
3. Memento (Christopher Nolan's best?)
4. Inside Man (a different kind of bank heist)
5. The Martian (loneliness is a luxury)
6. Intacto (what would you do for Luck?)
7. Triplets of Belleville (trippy animation, fantastic score, and nuance)
8. Celebration (Danish film, wicked twist, satisfying ending)
9. Power of the Dog
10. Magnolia
11. Snowpiercer (a different kind of dystopia)
12. Man Called Ove
This was so good to watch you react lol hope you go watch the new movie this week 😢
You need to watch the prequel!!! It shows snow start to become what we see in the trilogy
i can't believe you said just Kill Peeta the dude got tortured and send on a mission when he was clearly not mentally ready for it so no try to keep him on a watch but killing him it's extreme.
My fault I'd never kill Peet, I get too immersed sometimes 😂
peeta literally says to kill peeta. it is a reasonable initial reaction
Tbf he was a liability and literally killed one of their team. I love Peeta and I’m glad he didn’t die, but keeping him alive was a legitimate risk to their safety at a certain point :p
I really hope you watch the prequel. It is missing a lot of context from the book but it gives you more insight into why Snow is the way that he is
5:11 and THAT right there is exactly why I don’t hate Gale 💁🏽♀️
Gale has always had a brain for war and always wanted a revolution. Katniss takes issue with the violence required for change and I get that that makes her more relatable. But nah. I tend to agree with characters like Gale and Joanna
Yeah but Gale's mentality is exactly what lead to Prim dying.. and lots of other innocent people. It almost makes him just as bad as the enemy
Also the Band of Brothers fans will show up that's for dang sure LOL I myself have watched it at least twice a year since it came out in high school if not more and I know there's a lot more like me out there LOL whatever you pick I hope you enjoy it!😊
Have you watched the Broadway musical "Hamilton"? If you're leery, listen to the Hamilton Mixtape, then check out the play. It's freakin AMAZING.
are you gonna reacte to the prequel?
Love this, but am i missing something? Where is part 1 😭
It's on the channel just trying to iron out some copyright issues
Oh please watch the Maze Runner movies next! There is no dystopian era without this trilogy - great visuals (with less cgi than you might expect), great cast & acting, sense of realism - it stands out compared to the Hunger Games and it's a pretty entertaining one to react to 🔥 it will keep you on the edge of your seat the whole time!
I’ve already seen these sadly :( but do recommend any more you have in mind. I take note of everything everyone recommends
@@Kay-Pee oh I would recommend *Heathers* (1988) !✨ I don't know if you like dark humour too but this is a classic :)
also:
- Jumanji (1995)
- Big Fish (by Tim Burton)
- Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
- Lemony Snicket: a series of Unfortunate Events --- *the movie* (not the netflix series) from 2004 with Jim Carrey
they would be great ones to react to imo.
upvoting Eternal Sunshine 👍
I hope you'll watch Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes!
I still feel sick about Finnick’s death.
From your reaction to the underground tunnel scenes in the Capitol, you need to watch The Descent
Are you going to watch the ballad of songbirds and snakes?
Are u going to watch The Hunger Games a ballad of songbirds and snakes??
Also if you like horror i would love to see what you think of The Menu!
Yes! I've been waiting for this
There is a prequel coming out Friday please react to the trailer it takes places 64 years before katniss. The book was great and I'm excited for the movie. It's called the ballad of songbirds and snakes.
Trailers are trash, and total spoilers. They do that just to hook more people in.
@@MoMoMyPup10 yeah but the book was good so I know the movie will be.
FOR THE HOLIDAYS please oh please watch Pocket Full of Miracles
I suggest the Harry Potter series next. It sounds crazy but trust me, it gets better with each movie (there’s 8 bro)
Am I tripping or weren’t you reacting to JJK fight for season 2
Have you watched the series Wednesday?
I hope you read the books
looks like plistine to me
Sorry but I’m with the Old Testament, eye for an eye group!
Nooooww, you have to watch the Latest film released, hunger games: the ballad of songbirds and snakes
HARRY POTTER NEXT! TRUST YOU NEED TO WATCH!
love your videos dude, keep it up :-) can’t wait to see your next reaction!
Great series reaction! FCK GALE.
FOR PRIM!!
