Man this Docu is the best I watched about Retros so far! These old amazing days...miss them! The outro-music of your video threw me back into the realm of Kunitoki! Awesome 👍
What a great job You did, man!!! 👍👍👍Thank You so much for this phantastic documentary! Last Ninja 1 + 2 also are my most favourite C64 games ever. Superb graphics and gameplay and these awesome soundtracks still give me goosebumps. Thanks again and all the best from Germany. ✌️
The river crossing scenes were tough, and lets face it a bit frustrating, however I quite enjoyed the difficulty and eventually mastered that skill quite well. The music and graphics were excellent, it really pushed the C64 to it limits!
What a fantastic documentary, thanks so much for putting this together. Brought back so many good memories with the last ninja games being my faves growing up.
Loved this doco! Didn't spend any time playing IK or Ninja, but was ALWAYS a fan of the music and the graphics! So glad you got so in depth with the back stories and the artists involved. It's so funny how we, as kids and young adults, attached so much emotion to the artists, especially the musicians, and their involvement with the games, and they might be like "yeah, I guess I remember doing that" lol
Thank for checking it out . It was so hard to find something useful that Ben Daglish said in any interview .. he was so chill about answering questions 😂👍
Same here. But I did play a bit of Last Ninja (1 and 2) and it was OK, but I was a fan of IK series, that game I played for many hours with my friends. I remember one friend destroyed 2 joysticks playing against me... And ofc Bangkok Knights was awesome. Melbourne House Way of the Exploding fist was also good (not as good as IK somehow though)... But their Fist games (Fist II specially) was a masterpiece of suspense, good graphics and the music... oh that music sends chills to the bone still...

Brilliant documentary - grew up in the U.K. as a kid with the C64 and previously VIC-20! Great memories of System 3 Went to quite a few of the CVG events and others. 😃
Wow, great documentary, thanks! I will never forget when I first saw and played The Last Ninja - from that day on I was hooked on Action Adventures and the C-64 :).
loved this video. made me subscribe to your channel. the last ninja 1 + 2 were the pioneering games of the 1980's and the industry in general. i love playing the last ninja games to this day. thanks for the nostalgia. please try and do a video on the several different ports of the last ninja including the seemingly il fated reboots on several generations of consoles.
Thank you so much for this documentary. I played about half of their catalogue with Ninja Remix the odd man out. I played that at a friend's house. Ninja 1 and 2 I played so many times but I never finished Ninja 3. It was just too hard. Finally I watched a longplay of the game on youtube after nearly 30 years. 30 years, has it been that long.....?
Cheers thanks , yeah I played all their games back in the day from 1985 onwards anyway , Yeah Last Ninja 3 just didn't have the same magic too it , its still good but lacks that bit of ninja magic that made the others classics .
@@BastichB64K Yeah. You got that right. Regarding IK+, I played I.K. a lot but when IK+ came out something happened to me. I became so good at that game that nobody of my friends could beat me. I remember at a "party" - you know LAN-parties, the thing that came before - I played 1 to 10 (or 12). I beat them all at IK+.
Great Story and video, i had Last Ninja 3 original Cassette (with beautiful package) and i loved than the first - the 2nd i play only on friends home -. Thank You!
Fantastic Documentary of one of the leading groups in C64 games industry with exceptional and brilliant game , i enjoyed very much to watch it !! hope you can do a documentary of Ocean group as well if you have the time and efforts. cheers!!

Explaining to his mother that he had used the money from mortgaging her house to hire exotic dancers must have been interesting... Ton of fond memories of The Last Ninja games. Thank you for putting this together, it's a fascinating watch.
Awesome work! You had details that even I didn't know about, and I've contributed a lot to The Last Ninja Archives :-) PS! Strange you didn't mention that Matt Gray worked as a song writer and producer with Xenomania, who wrote songs for a whole bunch of famous artists and groups.
The last ninja archives is a great site ! Love it . I couldn't mention everything about every person the docu was already 98 minutes 😂👍 kinda have to stick to the stuff that relevant for the games
Another brilliant documentary I realize that I missed many system 3 releases by being in America, but for the games I got I always held them as one of the top companies for my dear c64!
Fantastic doc.!! Being system 3 fanboy myself. I remember going up to there office harrow-on-the_hill and showing my game to phil. A lovely hot-blond secretary opened the door... They were really friendly and we could show our game. I have alot system3 articles from C+VG / The one. I whish i knew I could send them. But great doc enjoyed alot with some beers too :-)
@@BastichB64K Me and my mate worked on AtariST game called Spherical platformgame with balls. We took the boot to London.. We just knocked on the door at system3 and they let us in :-) Unfortunate ST/Amgia markets were coming to end. Due to Concoles snes/MD That's the whole story.. .
Fantastic doc.. watched it over a couple of very enjoyable weeks. I get the distinct impression that Robin Levy really didn't like Chris Butler much. :)
Thanks for watching and yeah I think Robin and Chris simply had different working styles , he definitely respected him but maybe didn't enjoy working with him 😂
Jeez, this is the first video of yours I've seen, and the time and effort that you must have put in to make a feature length documentary on your own is admirable. I'm often too damn lazy to move limbs to scratch them, I'm really impressed.
What a great documentary, it was worth the HYPE. You mentioned a few guys passed away at the end. Did these guys die young? I though most old school C64 programers would only be in there mid 50's by now.
Thank you for watching . Yeah they all died over the last 10 years or so , Ben had Cancer , Antony lees died in a car accident , Im not sure about Tim Best .. info on him is is real slim. I would have liked to have him mentioned more but he's in none of the photos or interviews so it was hard to make him a "character" in the video. And yeah so they all died relatively young probably in their 50's
Okay, finally finished the video. What an awesome informative and compelling documentary! Bizarrely, I missed out on ... uhh ... _all_ of these games. And it's not like they were obscure in the USA either. But like ... well, for whatever reasons around here we loved Way of the Exploding Fist and just stuck with it. Dunno why? I guess it was mainly my brother who got games while I just incidentally played whatever he was into. For most of that time, he'd switched to the NES. In retrospect, the C64 hardware should have been able to do stuff better than the NES, but it would be a long time before demo coders really mastered the techniques. But as it was, the practical reality was that the actual games you could buy on the C64 generally didn't look as good as what was on the NES. But of course, the C64 had much more flexible capabilities, and these would prove to fascinate programmers for decades. The way the NES works is rather inflexible. Of course, there are other computers with interesting capabilities, but I kinda feel like the C64 gets more love since most of them have godawful sound. I find it hard to get pumped up for developing on a machine where I know the sound will be ... not good.
@@BastichB64K hahah couldn't wait so watched it last night; excellent, man just pure nostalgic laced entertainment....kudos to all the effort and research you must have put into making this...all the details and anekdotes most of us would have never known otherwise...
@@marceltiel7919 awesome glad you enjoyed it , yeah that was a LOT of research and writing lol 😆👍 ... Drove myself a little mad while making it but survived 😂
Ah...1987, last ninja year of release...my neighbour asked me to a 'pc convention'. I (10 years old) was expecting a big hangar size congress centre with of rows of computers and stands, but it ended up being a sleazy underlit basement-like venue, with guys selling homemade fast load cartridges and more the developper/ technical stuff which I wasnt interested in as a kid. But this was where I bought my original c64 tape copy of The Last Ninja. Fond memories...
Great video! I didn’t know they had so many good games beyond the Ninja series. Can you do more videos regarding the best games for the Commodore64? I rely on an emulator to play them, but there are so many, I don’t know the names of the really good ones. Games from my childhood such as Beach Head 2 and a handful of EA games stand out, but there are so many others that I missed as a kid. Thanks!
Yeah I'll be making some more Top 10s in the future , check out that playlist for tons of good C64 stuff th-cam.com/play/PL6INIIutFTerac2lS6OvJdVwwnKB5MYpF.html
I am bewildered. I thought I'd know about 98% of all Commdore 64 software. System 3 certainly became known with International Karate. But there were games made by them before 1986? Hard to believe... but probably correct. Thanks for sharing. Above is my original comment after seeing the first half. Seeing the second half, I have to realize how ignorant I was and perhaps still am. I got my Amiga in April 1988 but was still collecting C64 software. Seeing Tusker, Myth and all the rest of it... jaw dropping.
That Last Ninja C64 Music Collection at 26:34... What exacly ist it - a CD, a download, a whatever... - and where can I buy it? All of that you will tell me - TELL ME NOW!
just so you know, the C64 trench parts on Death Star Interceptor are glitching in the version you're using. Almost all of them do in fact it seems apart from the tape version which runs flawlessly
Didn't realise that to be honest , the last time I played this besides for this review of course was about 1985 so I didn't even remember that .. I did have a cracked copy on disk which may explain that 👍✅ thanks for the info.

Thx a lot , glad you liked it 😃✅
Great video. You can tell you put a lot of time and effort into it. Well worth it.👍
Thx , it was a monster to put together 😂 but thx for checking it out
Brilliant documentary - grew up in the U.K. as a kid with the C64 and previously VIC-20! Great memories of System 3 Went to quite a few of the CVG events and others. 😃
Thanks for checking it out , cheers ✅
I've watched this 3 times and probably will watch it more
Awesome insights dude
Thank you sir , much appreciated
awesome watch, a sneak peek behind the epitome of my childhood, the c64 and the last ninja series by system3
Thanks for watching glad you enjoyed it
Cracking watch, really interesting content! System 3 games were class with Myth and LN 2 personal favourites.
Cheers thx , LN2 and Myth are both brilliant ... I love System 3 games
Wow, great documentary, thanks! I will never forget when I first saw and played The Last Ninja - from that day on I was hooked on Action Adventures and the C-64 :).
Thx , what a classic game .. absolutely loved it !!!
Great work as always. Really enjoyed this.
Thx , glad you liked it 😃
loved this video.
made me subscribe to your channel.
the last ninja 1 + 2 were the pioneering games of the 1980's and the industry in general.
i love playing the last ninja games to this day. thanks for the nostalgia.
please try and do a video on the several different ports of the last ninja including the seemingly il fated reboots on several generations of consoles.
Cheers thank you for watching and subscribing it's much appreciated 👍👍👍
Thank You!
It's a cool trilogy , so many good memories for me . Thank you for watching
Fantastic Documentary of one of the leading groups in C64 games industry with exceptional and brilliant game , i enjoyed very much to watch it !! hope you can do a documentary of Ocean group as well if you have the time and efforts. cheers!!
Thanks for watching , I will do Ocean in the future 👍 not anytime soon though I'm still recovering from this one 😂
Great video. The camera dolly among the boxes is 👌. LN2 music by Matt Gray is in my opinion THE best music on the C64.
Thank you , that dolly was my cell phone strapped on top of a batman hotwheels car 😂👍 . Ln2 soundtrack is epic !!
@@BastichB64K even the pros use tricks like that 😂
@@kloakovalimonada 🤣👍
Very well done documentary, enjoyed a lot, thank you! :) Long live System 3
Thank you , love your Clyde avatar from Creatures 👍👍👍
Lovely trip down the memory lane!
Thanks glad you enjoyed it
This is how to do a retro game documentary, awesome video Bastich!
Cheers thx , System 3 done ✅
Just an incredible doco. Thorough with a deep appreciation of their contribution to us all. Just wish I could figure out how to run the multi part roms on the c64 Maxi!
Well ✔ 👍
Thank you for watching , much appreciated . I have a whole series of videos dedicated to the c64 maxi with tons of info that may help
Explaining to his mother that he had used the money from mortgaging her house to hire exotic dancers must have been interesting...
Ton of fond memories of The Last Ninja games. Thank you for putting this together, it's a fascinating watch.
Yeah I'm sure he didn't tell mom about the dancers 😂. Thank you for watching 👍
Top shelf doco. 👍 Does the subject matter true justice. The personal connection is very cool too.
Cheers thx for checking it out 😀👍👍
Blimmin heck! Death star interceptor, that thing gave me nightmares!
🤣👍
Super super fantastic documentary well done mate I fully enjoyed this episode ❤️👍👍👍
Thank you very much 😀👍👍👍👍👍
Awesome work!
True. And who wants to take responsibility for Cher's "Believe", anyway 😄
🤣👍
Another brilliant documentary I realize that I missed many system 3 releases by being in America, but for the games I got I always held them as one of the top companies for my dear c64!
Thanks for watching , yeah it's a pity the Activision deal ended so North America lost out on 3 years of System 3 C64 classics
Yet another awesome documentary
Thx for checking it out 😀👍
Excellent, great work, thanks!
Cheers for watching 😃👍
Fantastic doc.!! Being system 3 fanboy myself. I remember going up to there office harrow-on-the_hill and showing my game to phil. A lovely hot-blond secretary opened the door...
They were really friendly and we could show our game. I have alot system3 articles from C+VG / The one. I whish i knew I could send them. But great doc enjoyed alot with some beers too :-)
Thanks for watching , wow ! You went there to show a game !!! That's super cool 😎 I'm impressed
@@BastichB64K Me and my mate worked on AtariST game called Spherical platformgame with balls. We took the boot to London.. We just knocked on the door at system3 and they let us in :-) Unfortunate ST/Amgia markets were coming to end. Due to Concoles snes/MD That's the whole story..
.
one of the very best! great documentary
Cheers , thank you for watching
Excellent video as per usual mate
Thank you sir 👍👍
OMG! This is top quality content!
Thx 🕹️👍👍
Agreed!
Great work. That must have been a lot of work.
Thank you and yes ! It was a lot 😄😭 but I think worth it in the end 👍
@@BastichB64K Absolutely!
Excellent video here, love to hear about the old UK devs back in the day. Some of the best games around at that time.
Yeah they made some real great ones 😀👍
Great video B, very informative 👍
Thank you sir , cheers for watching
Such a great video, thanks 🙏
Awesome, thanks for checking it out 😀👍
Great job on this 👏
Thanks a lot and cheers for checking it out 😃😃👍👍
Fantastic doc.. watched it over a couple of very enjoyable weeks.
Thank you sir , much appreciated 👍 please check out my other vids I got tons of different style shows plus more Documentaries .
Shout out for American Ninja!! Loved those films!
😂👍
I love System 3 and their games! Last Ninja rocks, man!
I 100% agree 🕹️
I find it hard to get pumped up for developing on a machine where I know the sound will be ... not good.
Awesome insight cheers and again thank you for checking it out 😀✅
Great documentary 👍
Cheers thank you for watching
Last Ninja 1-3 is my childhood and one of the best games ever !
Love those games , epic !!!!
Awesome, I have to plan to watch this (1 hr, 39 min) but have been looking forward to this one ;)
I know it's a beast , when you eventually get the time lemme know what ya think? , cheers
Lol, you can take a break now ;)
Good man: the Last Ninja is epic!
Yes it is 😀👍👍👍
Ah...1987, last ninja year of release...my neighbour asked me to a 'pc convention'.
I frequented a few places like that back in the 80's and early 90's 🤣👍 a good hot bed of piracy 🕹️
Thanks!
Yeah I'll be making some more Top 10s in the future , check out that playlist for tons of good C64 stuff

Thx for watching , System 3 had a long and rich C64 history.. it wasn't just a couple of games that most people remember . Thx for checking it out
That Last Ninja C64 Music Collection at 26:34...
What exacly ist it - a CD, a download, a whatever... - and where can I buy it?
All of that you will tell me - TELL ME NOW!
Thats just some fan compilation , just all the c64 compiled , you can't buy it
@@BastichB64K But.. but...
Ah, crap!
Thanks anyway.
Excellent documentary!!! Thks!!! P.S. Would be nice if you activate Closed Caption Subtitles!!!
Thx for watching , I'll check out that option 👍
Video impeccabile,di alto livello.qualita' top
Thank you 😀👍
just so you know, the C64 trench parts on Death Star Interceptor are glitching in the version you're using.
Great job!!!
Thank you 😀👍
