    Ticking noise (eventually found by holding the valve with engine running) driving me mad and P0171, swapped over the PCV and problem solved, great help thanks Andy

    Hey. Just a little update. Changed the same thing and my ESC light and Engine light stopped showing up for a week already. Was a bit hard but replaced it myself. Super-happy. Code no. P 0171. Not anymore 🙃🙃🙃

    Thank you Andy! It took me an hour to find the problem and 15min to change the valve. I was able to blow the air through old valve and it means it was broken.

    That valve at back of the engine on the little rubber mount is the fuel tank breather valve. The pcv is built into the rocker cover. You have a hose from the lower crankcase to the rocker cover where the pcv valve is and that then links back to the inlet.

    • @junkendriven
      @junkendriven  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there, unfortunately it's got a name that gets mixed up often fuel ' purge control valve' so you're right pcv is normally positive crankcase ventilation valve, in this instance I'm referring to the fuel valve!
      Very confusing thanks for the clarification

    • @pinpointvehiclediagnostics7497
      @pinpointvehiclediagnostics7497 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@junkendriven The part you have replaced is the Evaporative Emissions Valve or EVAP Valve which as you say is the fuel tank breather. EVAP is how the scan tool refers to it. The PCV positive crank case ventilation valve is built in to the rocker cover. both are common failures but with different symptoms.
      the EVAP valve should make a ticking noise when its operating. it only dose that sometimes when the ecu decides its appropriate to vent the fuel tank.
      If you can blow through it when its disconnected its faulty, stuck open.

    Struggling to take the thick tube bit (on the right) off. Its very tight on there, any ideas?
    EDIT: I managed to do it thanks to some WD40. If you are struggling yourself, get a small flat-head screwdriver and first pry it into the edges of the hose to slightly loosen it then use it to wedge open a small gap and spray in your wd40. Then with a bit of twisting it comes right off

      Tiny spray of silicone lubricant might just help free it. It'll just be heat cycles on the rubber and plastic causing them to bond

    Hi Andy, many thanks for the video. You look very experienced and I am lost to be honest. I would like to ask your opinion. There is an Astra H 1.4 petrol ecotec with rough idle and when I accelerate the throttle jumps to 100% (elm327 + torque pro to monitor), no power, when lose the pedal a bit, only a bit, then throttle goes to 20% ish and get the power. I have replaced the throttle body, cleaned it before the installation, replaced the electronic throttle pedal, used op-com (no obvious error code)... It starts on first button, but the idle rev is good until the engine is cold, then rev goes to around 830 and engine starts shaking. I hear (?) a hissing noise from the right side on the engine, but can't see any leak. Do you have any idea? Could be a surging valve? Thanks, Rob

      Suction there is bad for the engine, it means the breather isn't working or clogged. These are engine ventilation pipes and breather in the rocker cover that does fail on these engines and needs replacing, that sounds like the issue you're having and needs replacing/cleaning

    Hi there, I don't know if this account is still active, but if anyone could respond would be great. My check engine light has been going on and off for the last 2 months now, when it is on I can feel a loss in power and the engine runs a lot quieter. I have plugged in a reader with the code reading that it is fuel system lean. I have looked it up and this is one of the things so I'll have ago changing it and see what happens!

      is this the same as a Breather Valve, fuel tank

      It could be related. Is it the same petrol engine? As could be other things causing fuel too lean, was it all cylinders or just one? If all then could be fuel pump or fuel line issues

      @@junkendriven I did the checks you did no vacuum under the cover where the spark plugs are or the oil cap. But I have also been experiencing the cars fuel consumption being very poor

    Do you think I have the same problem with my 2013 Corsa 1.4 SE Automatic? I've made a video of the misfire here: th-cam.com/video/KDtl6ZeVGog/w-d-xo.html
    Thanks in advance :)

      I appreciate this is 3 months old, assuming it's still happening, wait until you hear the sound and then open the hood and disconnect the power (as seen in this video), if the sound goes away, its your Purge Valve. If it's not it could be lifters/tappets or timing chain.
      as your video says could be the coil packs or the spark plugs
