I can't even imagine... 1. getting a photo of a perfect Kylo Ren on a comic con 2. finding out later that was Adam Savage I would get multiple heart attack...
it's ridiculous how many layers that outfit has, all for it to look like a glob of blackness. And now i'm picturing Kylo Ren having Stormtroopers assist him in getting dressed and throwing a tantrum over it
Ibs well I never did myself but as far As similar attire my mom taught me the different ways you can take a bed sheet and form a 4 different ways of dressing. One of them came Cole's yo a Jedi dress code but not really
Senpai guys, guys. She put a check mark next to her name , normal people just have a dot, verified just have a check mark, since she has both that is how I concluded this.
Someone needs to do a mod of that helmet and get some speakers and a microphone in there to make his voice louder and sound the same as kylo's. Now THAT would be a crazy costume
When he said the costume got him into character it's because getting the thing on pissed him off a lot, By the time the director said action he was fully pissed and ready to go full Kylo-Ren on everybody!...xD
I also means that you don't suddenly expose a part of the outfit that is not supposed to be seen. The bear costume had hole in its armpits, for example. If you layer credible pieces of clothing over each other, you don't have to hide 'unfinished' spots.
Plus, the layers help to bulk him up. You can see how important that is when you compare him to the other Kylo at 5:58. He looks very skinny. Still, not a bad costume!
Mason S yeah because the other guy’s costume was really good, and it would stand out as a great costume on its own, but Adam’s made it look like something from Party City
I agree that it feels a bit incomplete, but only cause he should've had a holstered lightsaber. I think if he had a lightsaber with the blade part that lights up (like the other one had) it would've had a negative effect on what is otherwise an awesome costume.
Usually with costumes it isn't the weight that is an issue but rather how the costume insulates the body and restricts movement. These issues can range from bad (potentially threatening heat stroke and making it impossible physically impossible for an actor to perform) to beneficial (not needing coats when having to shoot in the cold and providing mannerisms for the character). Luckily for Driver, most of his scenes stayed clear of potential heat stroke and his character lent itself to more mannered movement.
the film costume was made in 4x4 stitching fabric, not as heavy as the stamped nylon hybrid on Savage's costume, but significantly most expensive, so I understand why he wouldn't use that and the pants and underjacket were made to be a tad lighter

James Edwards I don’t like their business practices but I don’t hate them either. They do business based on units that are limited per season of the year. For example they will sell 150 units before selling out and preparing to sell some next season.
It is truly fascinating how many layers go into that costume!! I also find it interesting how much of that layering isn't actually seen! Thank you for sharing this with us!

I don't understand why Adam has so many intricately detailed layers on the torso when it all ends up being covered up? If you don't see it then what's the point?
I was thinking the same thing a lot of layers you never see, BUT it makes the costume "fill out better" since this is a movie prop replica they copy everything even the what might seem unnecessary bits. you could probably have a custom outfit made that has only 1 part the outside you see w some sort of filler mats sewn into the inside and get the same look.
She's also Norm's fiancee. So hopefully she's around for a while. If you could identify her the last two years at ComicCon, you could have found Adam pretty easily

Like Adam said, I am guessing it's a lot about wearing something that actually matches what the character is wearing in the movie and having the same restraints put on you because of it. For a lot of cosplayers trying to stay as authentic to the actual props as possible is important.
After re-watching, that's not true. The bottom layer is for the arm folds He puts the neck folds on above that Then overlays it with a jacket for the body folds Then puts on a sleeveless fleece Then puts on the "gi" Then puts on the gloves Then puts on the Helmet + final neck wrap Each layer does serve a purpose. If you ever wanted to portray Kylo having some down time (like when he's in his chambers), you could remove some of the layers for something more minimalistic without sacrificing "the look" Edit: the balaclava is the only thing that doesn't "fit"
All the layers are worn in the film at some point. The one he walks around in during the con is the throughout most of the movie. The one underneath that with all the pleats is when he's talking to Vader's helmet & the one textured one under that is at the end on Starkiller Base :) But yes, mainly for authenticity. I don't wear the Starkiller layer when I go to events because it's insanely hot already.
It's a nice expensive costume... but it's not movie accurate.. it's close.. Im a 501st Legion member, who has an approved Kylo Ren costume. and the Anovos costume would need quite a few mods done to get approved.. it's nice though.. and my approved costume ran about $1000 total.
I'm not into cosplay at all but I enjoy these vids mostly because Adam seems like such an approachable and down to earth guy and his interaction with fans especially kids is fantastic.

I agree that it feels a bit incomplete, but only cause he should've had a holstered lightsaber. I think if he had a lightsaber with the blade part that lights up (like the other one had) it would've had a negative effect on what is otherwise an awesome costume.
+Torpington Agreed. The plastic lightsaber makes the costume seem less authentic, not more.
really depends on how good it's made. If it was just dangling on the side it could've looked awesome.

The layers below are not seen so why wear them.
authenticity
Like Adam said, I am guessing it's a lot about wearing something that actually matches what the character is wearing in the movie and having the same restraints put on you because of it. For a lot of cosplayers trying to stay as authentic to the actual props as possible is important.
Layering, the form would not be the same without them.
After re-watching, that's not true.
The bottom layer is for the arm folds
He puts the neck folds on above that
Then overlays it with a jacket for the body folds
Then puts on a sleeveless fleece
Then puts on the "gi"
Then puts on the gloves
Then puts on the Helmet + final neck wrap
Each layer does serve a purpose.
If you ever wanted to portray Kylo having some down time (like when he's in his chambers), you could remove some of the layers for something more minimalistic without sacrificing "the look"
Edit: the balaclava is the only thing that doesn't "fit"
All the layers are worn in the film at some point. The one he walks around in during the con is the throughout most of the movie. The one underneath that with all the pleats is when he's talking to Vader's helmet & the one textured one under that is at the end on Starkiller Base :)
But yes, mainly for authenticity.
Who else wants to watch the force awakens
True
Me. Oh comment too late, i already watched it.
I'm not into cosplay at all but I enjoy these vids mostly because Adam seems like such an approachable and down to earth guy and his interaction with fans especially kids is fantastic.
I love seeing these. It really must be like playing Where's Wally/Waldo at these conventions.
