Apparently Vesper asked Axel and Bae for song suggestions (see clip "Vesper had Help from Axel and Bae in Choosing His Cover Song" from "Rayzorexe"), and this was one of Bae's suggestions. Vesper said that he was looking for a low difficulty song, and that Bae's response after he picked "Shinigami" was along the lines of "That's actually the hardest one. I just included that one cause I liked it."
I think Vesper has a unique voice that stands out against his peers. It's light and airy but full bodied at the same time. It's a beautiful cover! I hope he sees your review. Also, fun fact: he didn't listen to his own song until it premiered because he was so nervous about it!
Vespapa sings for us LMAO. He did amazing. He mentioned that Axel and Bae were helping him since the start, and that this project actually started back in Oct/nov. Bae gave him a bunch of recommendations, and he just happened to pick the HARDEST song from her list. His reasoning being that he vibed with it.
I honestly wasn't expecting much from vesper after hearing him talk about his singing skills, but I'm so pleasently surprised with the genuine banger he's produced here. I didn't know about the original, but hearing those beginnign chords immediately gave that Grampire vibe, great choice. Feels weird to say, but I'm kinda proud he put himself out there like this and it paid off.
I think he discussed in a short stream right after this released, he talked about Bae gave him a list of songs that would be easy for him, but also tossed this one in for fun. He listened to them all, and decided on this one, even after learning it wouldn’t quite be easy. He does plan to do another song eventually, but not any time soon. Then like an hour after than he, Bettel, and Bae watched Barbie movies, where he downed about 5 bottles of beer during the first half of the first movie. That was a really fun stream to listen in on at work :D
thanks so much for this reaction video! I was fully prepared to just like the song because it was something fun my oshi made, but I am so in love with it for its own merit. Makes me even more excited to think what we could get from Vesper as he develops his vocal skills over time! I definitely think he has a very unique voice within the company and I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to see him learn to take full advantage of this. He certainly had a great team supporting him and helping him get the most out of his voice, but I hope he can learn to give himself more credit because his vocals are still the raw material for the song and he clearly did great especially for his first effort. I've seen many people praising his crisp pronunciation too!
vesper definitely undersells his ability! just comparing his lines from Top of the World, Bad End Night, and YATTA, you can tell there's so much more confidence in how he delivers the lines here. i agree that he picked a great song that was firmly in his comfortable range while still showing off his hard-earned progress. even if we only get one cover from him a year, i have faith in grampire's growth!! also, the fact that axel and vesper both released covers of kenshi yonezu songs within two weeks of each other is a real son and pops moment, lmao.
i'd even say i like his version more than the original, his warm tone just... "fills" the song more for lack of expression, when i listen back to the original, it feels "cold and empty"

But of course...😂

This cover's been stuck in my head since it came out
Vesper vocals fits well with Shinigami.

How low can you go?
Vesper : "yes"
I think this was a genius choice for Vesper because the entire vibe of the song itself perfectly sums up his zatsudans.
