This episode was beautiful. Obviously the visuals (so many of the stills could be in a museum), but the messages, the symbolism, and the throwbacks were absolute top tier. One brother chose to dull his pain with hatred and surpassed his limits. The other brother found a family and then discovered inner peace. In my opinion, this episode wasn’t as entertaining or as hype as some of my other favorites, but it was one of the most incredibly satisfying and heartfelt. Also, Dabi’s voice actor deserves an award. Even two episodes ago in the Monoma 🐐 episode, he was the standout.
Great video and fun fact: Dabi's new white outfit is based on Japanese funeral clothing - just in case people didn't get sad enough from the episode lol but Dabi has the best story in the show in my opinion and I loved your commentary on him and this episode!! :)
WHAT AN EPISODE!!! studio bones is absolutely crushing it this season, I'm genuinely so happy with this episode in particular. what did you guys think!?
You're the first reactor to say it. This is by far the most tragic part of Dabi's story. Toya LEARNED his lesson. He basically died and saw the gates of Hell and realized "what Endeavor wants from me is not attainable". Dabi was going to apologize (mainly to Shoto and his mom) and work something out with his quirk. But he gets home and sees Endeavor didn't learn A THING. He drove Toya to the brink of death then turns right around abuses his third son. In a sense, Toya's death meant nothing to Endeavor. And that's why Dabi wants to destroy his legacy.
Furthermore, Touya had just woken up from a coma and found that he was weaker than before. Seeing his father still hell bent on quirk training probably made him think he had no use there and was going to be pushed aside again.
@@hkaayaakuu Who the hell was he going to explain what he felt to if he had absolutely no one listening to him? Did you read the manga with your eyes closed or what?
@@Agustina-sp6ys there is a good amount of fans who interpret it as Toya wasn't upset with abuse, he was upset with replacement and that he was weaker after returning home and shoto would become the favourite because of his better physicality
Something I’ve been saying a lot lately is that it’s honestly super sad that Shoto feels the need to carry all of the family’s hardships on his back when none of this should really be his responsibility. Unfortunately, Endeavor spent the last month or so completely neglecting Shoto and Touya, so he’s gonna have to fight All for One now instead, which sucks since Touya seems to really want to talk to him instead of Shoto, and I can’t say I blame him. Still though, I hope that Shoto can get through to Touya in some way. Touya may not want to admit it, bit they’re more alike than he thinks. Something I can’t say enough is how I couldn’t imagine being in Touya’s place in those flashbacks. Like, he burned himself up, and the next thing he knew he was several years older and looked completely different and had a different voice. And then he went home, only to realize that his father had essentially just continued on. All of Touya’s fears had essentially come to life then. And what sucks the most is that Touya was likely ready to come back with a whole new outlook on life.
@@Misaki_Mei504 you’re right! I was just kidding hahaha - I do not condone the horrible things he’s done even though he was treated so poorly as a child! we still have to be accountable for our actions
@@sailorkaylaxhonestly I really like that you added in "Dabi isn't redeemable" at the mid point because he just isn't. Like Shoto said, those awful things happened and Dabi made his choices. It's just freaking tragic and awful. So many little things could have changed his life (and obviously the big ones).
Yes, even I don't condone it, but think of it from his perspective. This boy believed that he had just DIED and was brought back to life. Waking up in a place full of strangers with no clue where his family is or HOW he survived. And after being told that he couldn't leave, he panicked, wanting nothing more than to go home to his family. And like he said before, his flames respond to his emotions. He couldn't control it. And all of his crimes later, that was basically him believing that his life didn't matter anymore, and had no other purpose other than vengeance and hatred
Agreed! It sucks how so many people hate and severely misunderstand Dabi/Toya's character and bash and mock him for things that aren't even true. It's a shame, since he's such a good character. So many people claim that he was just born a psychopath and that nothing else influenced him to become the way he is now, that he cares about nobody and never has even as a kid, that he was the one that burned down the facility and killed the kids there and that he is just a whiny, annoying brat with daddy issues and has no excuse to act the way he does and that it was his fault alone that the Todoroki family fell apart, that he was the one that made his parents snap and who is to blame for him burning alive and turning into Dabi, no one else. It really baffles me because that's not true at all. Toya was a kid who just wanted to be loved and praised by his father and wanting to make him proud and be seen, just like any child. He knew that the only reason why he existed was because of his father's goal of becoming the number one hero and surpassing All Might and that as soon as he shows any weakness, he would be abandoned and ignored like Fuyumi and Natsuo and that's exactly what ended up happening. Suddenly, he was no longer the ideal successor and child of his father and was just another failed attempt of Endeavour's dream project before being replaced by his perfect and ideal youngest sibling. It makes complete sense that he spiraled until he broke down and even then the first thing he wanted to do after having burned alive and waking up from a 3 year coma in a creepy facility was to immediately go home so he could apologise to his family and Horikoshi confirmed that it wasn't him who burned down the facility nor did he harm any of the kids.
@@Kalakeiko preach! If only Toya knew how to communicate what he felt and not internalize everything he was thinking he had to do.
