The clothing, the hair, the dancing, i like everything about this violinist.
You can tell this guy really loves his job
I've just discovered Olivier Brault, what a Renaissance man for the 21st century !!
Ha ha... I'm making the sound of the castanets with my heels ! I was thinking too much about the pride of the Spanish dancer. Intonation issues, rosin not sticking much, some notes missing... but many added for the spirit :)
I loved it honestly. It gave such nice touch to the performance :)
I love you Olivier. :-)
You play beautifully.
Glad to find you again!
This is, by far, the most passionate performance of Follia I've ever heard! I can absolutely hear the pure joy of playing it! Thank you all! Mr Brault was so into it he almost started to dance😊 Wonderful!
Thank you Marija for so generous and joyous a comment! Ive passed this on to Olivier.
I loved it a lot, if it is not the best interpretation of "La Folia", I could say that it is one of the best. Congratulations.
Gosh Im so glad you liked it so much. Ive shared your note with Olivier and Loretta. Thank you.
Olivier has great screen presence. The hair, the clothes, the charisma, the virtuosity. I'll bet you he dose'nt sit home alone on Saturday nights.
The theorbo lute, the foot tapping, the feeling, I ❤️ it all.
I love how much fun he was having with it!
I studied Arcangelo Corelli in college in my Music History classes. I told my professor how much I enjoy the compositions by Corelli. His return answer was "a lot of people do!" The performers in this video are well studied in discipling their playing r to the best level they can attain. I think they have done a magnificent job! Thank for sharing Corelli's wonderful music with all of us.
thank you so much for your kind and encouraging comment!
Fabulous in the true meaning of the word. Bravissimo.
Amazing. Its like I was being transported back in time.
M. Brault - I've seen you perform Jeannette Sorrell's arrangement of Vivaldi's "La Folia" (aka "musical caffeine") in several TH-cam videos, now I get to see you play the Corelli version. Thank you for making my day and inspiring my writing.
My favorite Baroque violinist!
Ditto.
This variations are top, thanks...
Thanks!
Thank YOU for writing to us and saying lovely things!
@@andrewsappel thank you. however, do you understand my language?
We tenderly and carefully restore baroque dance from the sources, and Mr. Brault reconstructs baroque music with the same fervor and accuracy.
But we are far from the fervor and heat of the affects with which he performs it. He moves better than us, dancers.❤🎉
Magnifique.
Great energy. A pleasure to hear the imaginative ornaments, and the spirit of joy the group all communicate. Well done!
Thank you David for your generous note here.
Gorgeous Corelli --intricate and embroidered. Olivier is obviously accomplished.
I love your dedication to the music, the age and desire to become at one with your interpretation.
formidable interprétation !
Oh my goodness the grandma played so amazingly well. Superb concert
Grande artista Olivier. Complimenti!!
This song literally took me to a whole new time period lol and I LOVE it
Excellent interpretation !!
Music to affirm being alive- Bravo!
Very very beautiful playing ! I was moved.
Olivier: Completement eblouissant!!! Bravo!!!
comme toujours
@@laffreuxjacobin6286 Corelli renaît dans ce merveilleux violoniste!
Brilliant. Saw this performed live by Apollo's Fire at Tanglewood and it was amazing.
Your playing makes my heart soar!
Excellent! I loved it!
Oh my dancing heart I AM in LOVE !!! 💐🌿💖
Beautiful.....thank you
I'm an obsessed La Folia fan, and I must say, this is the second best violin performance of the piece I've ever heard. Well done. Bravo!!!
magnificent. xxxx
Bravo!!!
The bow-wearing beau / Takes a bow for his bowing- / He's our Lord of the Bow / Is Olivier Brault!
So beautiful. 😊
Outstanding!!!!!!!
So nice and lively music! Great!

superbe
Thank you so much! It's really excellent!
buenisimo. Felicitaciones!!
Bellísimo!!!!!
Bravíssimo 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿
Piękne wykonanie!
I didn't realize how lively baroque music could sound as I've only really "read" through it on my own! Do you pick and choose what ornaments you use for each individual performance or do you just stick with your favorites? I've heard there is some very slight improvisation with baroque music and was curious.
HI. Thanks for your nice and appreciative note. Ill answer for the ensemble. We know that Corelli was a master elaborator and when his solo violin sonatas were published in Holland and in England they were published with the ornaments that Corelli added to simple and lyrical adagios and andantes. We aren't sure that these ornaments were really his but they are contemporary and give us an idea as to how elaborate Italian ornamentation was for violinists. I think that most good baroque players use these as a good guide post, playing them or inventing their own ornaments that seem in the ball park with them. We also have examples of other great violinists of the time printing their own ornaments to the Corelli sonatas. Each violinist brings his own character and art to the pieces. In this set of variations, Corelli does not add the elaborations he brings to the other sonatas. What you hear as ornaments are Olivier's spontaneous additions...always a delight to the continuo section from performance to performance.
Maravilhoso!! Uma interpretação divina!!
Parabéns!!
Maravilhoso!!!!!
You guys are a genius, an awesome artists, I love it, your performance 👽👽👽
Bravo!
Bravo, la meilleure version que je connaisse!
I have passed this on to Olivier and how lovely it is to read your assessment. Thank you for it.
Bravissimo
Thank you so much Mr. Reboiras. This makes all of us feel very good.
Bravissimi
Cool!
GEIL..😮
You wonder how some pieces become "greatest hits," as La Folia certainly was (and is). Corelli, Vivaldi, Handel, and now I'm seeing an arrangement by Fritz Kreisler.
Dont forget thE french as well... d"Anglebert, Marais, Couperin...etc--and finally, Bernstein whose AMERICA from West Side Story is a take on Folia as well
Bom demais
❤❤
Cool !!!!!!!!🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
The castanets add to it! And as to technical/mechanical issues, the original viol players probably didn't come close to your technical prowess. Stop worrying, we're enjoying your performance.
I agree on both the castanets and the execution.
Corelli would have appreciated.

He’s using a proper baroque bow? Lovely.
yup.. the bow is proper and Baroque. :-}
Sounds like the strings are period, as well.
@@SerafinDrake Yup, as much as we can, everything is set up to be historically coherent and right. The sensuousness of Baroque music wants gut strings!
What’s the name of that edition of la folia I can’t find it anywhere every other version is different
This is a facsimile of the original Italian version of Opus 5 sonatas for violin and continuo. They Were also published in Amsterdam and London with added ornamentation but this Italian edition is the first.
@@andrewsappel ah okay I see so does that mean there’s no online copy’s of the sheet music or anywhere online to purchase this version
@@cristophersanchez6287 go to Imslp and you can find it under Corelli. I would not call this a "version." It is exactly as Corelli wanted it to appear, as he published it in 1700.
This is hilarious!
Folia is a bass line and harmonic progression that was set by countless composers. Corelli's, published in 1700 is a cornerstone of Baroque chamber and violin music. Vivaldi's came a few years later...but there are variations on Folia by Marais, d'Anglebert, Couperin, CPE Bach, Liszt, up to Bernstein's America from West Side Story which is a take on Folia. Cheers ANDREW
Is that a lute or a theorbo?
It is a theorbo--which is a lute with the added long bass strings that are simply tuned to the low notes you want and never stopped with the fingers as the lute part of the instrument is. However this reminds me of a funny story I heard from a fine viola da gambist. She had played a concert for music lovers who were not particularly savvy about original instruments and after the concert was over a member of the audience came up to her and asked if that was a piano she was playing. She told me that under such questioning, the best policy was to be agreeable and she said yes.
@@andrewsappel Thank you. I was sure I had seen one in David Munrow's book!

That "lute" is a theoorbo, isn't it?
yes it is a theorbo.
This is not the version I have lol
What version DO you have! This is the Italian version, controlled and published by Corelli on Jan 1, 1700. The somewhat later versions have the addition of ornaments. They were published in London and Amsterdam and boast the elaborations as performed by Mr. Corelli. Best regards! Andrew Appel
Corelli didn't write the noise with the shoes!
Corelli wore carpet slippers!
They are all rugby players
You are entirely wrong. In fact every evidence shows that all adagios were ornamented Look at each movement from opus 5 and the published elaborations. Look at the school of Corelli and how the real style requires elaboration all the time. Even allegros were freely embellished. Back to the basics with you.
I eliminated your other comment as it was sour and out of place here. It seemed to come from envy rather than collegial exchange. Mr. Brault, whether you like his interpretations or not, is worthy of greater respect.
