Q. Where can I buy CDs?
Our CDs are available on iTunes, Google, Amazon, CD Baby and just about everywhere; you can also buy a CD in a jewel case from Kunaki: www.voicesofmusic.org/cds.html
Q. What is Early Music performance, or historical performance?
A. We play on instruments from the time of the composers, and we use the original music and playing techniques: it’s a special sound.
Q. Why are there no conductors?
A. Conductors weren’t invented until the 19th century; since we seek to recreate a historical performance, the music is led from the keyboard or violin, or the music is played as chamber music~or both
Q. What are period instruments or original instruments; how are they different from modern instruments?
A. As instruments became modernized in the 19th century, builders and players tended to focus on the volume of sound and the stability of tuning. Modern steel strings replaced the older materials, and instruments were often machine made. Historical instruments, built individually by hand and with overall lighter construction, have extremely complex overtones-which we find delightful. Modern instruments are of course perfectly suited to more modern music.
Q. Why is the pitch lower, or higher?
A. Early Music performance uses many different pitches, and these pitches create different tone colors on the instruments. See goo.gl/pVBNAC
In 1705, eager to make his mark as a composer of both opera and instrumental music, the young Vivaldi published his first set of twelve trio sonatas as Opus 1. The last sonata, which is a highly virtuosic set of variations on the "La Follia" dance pattern (titled only "Follia" in the print), is one of his most famous works; Vivaldi takes Corelli's variations on the same theme-and-bass pattern from Corelli's Opus 5 (1700), which was already a famous work, and adds figuration of even greater complexity.

iam sure Mr Goya and Velasquez are enjoying this from heaven ,! Best channel EVER!
10 Years from now on this still never gets old because I love Classical in Baroque style
Thank you
I find the art of baroque ballet truly beautiful
A wonderful, rousing performance of La Follia, by Vivaldi. The dancers turn a baroque music into an almost flamenco dance. It's unbelievable how a church may be transformed. Besides, "Follia" allows to be interpretated madly. Grazie per questa splendida, travolgente esecuzione.
The Flamenco angle is an interesting one...
Everybody who has NOT seen and heard this piece does not know what art is. Absolutely fantastic artwork.
You could call anything art if u want.
The taste decides what art truly is to someone.
The best channel on TH-cam. I have never found another which comes close to this quality of art. Thank you. This video is a gem.

@@wolfwingenfeld5200 Gracias. No lo conocía. Por lo que veo muy bueno!
i'm from indonesia and i just noticed that the dancers are wearing mask carved from bali! we're so proud and thank you for choosing our local product😍🙏✨️
They sure knew how to do a beautiful courtly dance back then. These are incredible, intricate steps.
Good heavens! Brilliant! Inspired! Ingenious! Masterful! Sublime! Thrilling! Transporting! Magic!
Thank you!
Oh! 10 years ago I discovered this interpretation of Vivaldi, I imagined the dance a little different, but no less brilliant and elegant than this, remembering the first time I heard it, I liked it so much that I repeated the video several dozen times, a few more later that my neighbor shouted: There are more videos on TH-cam! 🤷
Yrs ago (well, decades) I dated a dance critic in NYC. She took me to a concert of early ballet which evolved into what we know now. This brings back that pleasant moment. Thank you performers and musicians!
They remind me of a pair of birds of paradise , displaying to each other. Very beautiful.
They are doing Sevillanas in the end!! Perfectly fits the rythm
This is an absolutely astonishing performance! I am now madly in love with the La Folia!!!
Technically, La is, grammatically speaking, an article in of itself, so putting the and la together is redundant.
@@gaopinghu7332Well no, "La follia" its a title, and without the article, it could mean anything.
@@ThePuppetMaster429 Let me ask you this: would you say "Let's listen to the "The Wall" by Pink Floyd"?
Putting the "the" of the sentence together with the "The" of the title sounds wrong even if it's a title.
@@gaopinghu7332 Yes, but if you say "Lets listen Wall, has no sense, the article its super important.
Let me ask you now, you say: "Vivaldi Four Seasons" or "Vivaldi The Four Seasons.
@@ThePuppetMaster429 as I said, La is already an article, and that's why it suffices.
As for your question, I would say "Let's listen to "Le quattro Stagioni" by Vivaldi.
Of course, that's because I know italian, something that not everyone knows, but it's still correct.
BRO! The footwork is absolutely astounding! And the music, heavenly!
We were in Venice last month and heard this played in a concert by Interpreti Veneziani. A superb group of baroque musicians. This group of musicians and dancers are remarkable also. I love Baroque music.
Where was this performance. The music, the dancers and the setting, how marvelous!
That was amazing. I have never seen anything like this before. So elegant!
I had read somewhere in YT that all the different versions of La folia were based on an Italian folklore about the dance of a mad young girl. After watching the exquisite performances of the dancers and musicians it occurred to me that it was about a lovestory between a noble man and a pretty young girl ( pretty in all senses especially seeing and hearing). The exquisite dancers and wonderful musicians have converted the Vivaldi gem into much more beautiful piece of artwork. Gracias.
Our pleasure.
Some 150 composers used "La Folia": en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Folia
This may well be my new favorite VoM video
agree
Semplicemente stupendi!!!!
Grazie.
Captivating performance. Bravo!
This couple is a great and very gifted pair. Dancing to this beautiful music made it more exciting to watch. Bravo!
La Folia of Vivaldi, dance of my Spain with castanets. _Very beautiful interpretation; very Spanish._
Thanks so much!
Italians used castanets in their dancing as well. Which this is of Baroque Italian period. Venetian masks etc.
@@kellyhenderson9972 Dance of Follia is origin from Spain and Portugal, aren't Italian. In period baroque half Italy ruled for Spain. Naples, Sicily and Milan dominated for Spanish. Castanets are Spanish percusions used in dance Fandango of Boccherini too.
Glück en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Folia. Those masks are Venetian not Spanish. This Is Vivaldi ‘s version. Which is Italian.
@@kellyhenderson9972 Vivaldi was Italian and this music is Italian too, but this dance in video represent Spanish dancers; "torero", "esgrime", "dress of Goya", "zapateado" and "castanets", only for a marks are Italian?. I understand that you aren't European and you confuse, I know well dances Spanish and dances of Carnival of Venice, this dancers represent Spanish people not Italians, greetings from Germany. lol
Ah, as soon as I saw the dancers, I thought, "brilliant!" Adding baroque dancers is a great, great idea! Thank you for posting this video! Damn, I wish I could have seen it live. Bummer! Mesmerizing, riveting. Music and performance are superb, but the baroque costumes are fantastic! My favorite period of history in art, dress, architecture, and most of all, music. Plus it has JS Bach!
Love the castanets! Nice touch and a perfect addition.
Adorable cette performance! Très espagnol. Je l’adorais.
I love the fact that they are wearing masks. It gives the performance an eerie, otherwordly feel, like two Meissen figurines come to life. Excellent !
Peter Karargiris it makes me think of the movie "Eyes wide shut" though
Agree it looks stylish, but spare a thought for the dancers who probably don't feel all that comfortable having to dance with a mask on. Hats off to them...
Venetian masks.
Agree. very appropriate in this Age of the Corona.
@@hanwenhengliu3776 No, the man is a very well known dancer, as is the young lady.
The dancing is marvelous, but it tends to overshadow the fact that the musical performance may be the finest version of Vivaldi's "La Folia" on youtube.
Apollo's Fire does an absolutely jaw-dropping interpretation of this piece as well (no ballet, though - just music).
My life is now complete, thank you.
La Folia is a dance spanish.
¡¡VIVA ESPAÑA!! no it isn't it's a classical song for classical dancing Spanish dancing is more faster
La Folia with castanet very Spanish.
Absolutely stunned. An incredible performance!
This is the first time I Can really see the Follia executed by dancers.
Great.. Thanks for this marvelous channel !
You're welcome!
Masterpiece!
This should get more attention😉
What an absolutely stunning and gorgeous performance! I love how an entire story was told so clearly through both the dance and the music! Wonderful job to everyone involved!
Thank you so much!
Fantastic dancing, thank you so much!!!
You are very welcome
How featly they foot it; such exquisite, elegant dancing; i just love it as the one of the best things I have seen on you tube.
No words to describe this interpretation. Thank you for sharing!
the occasional tapping scared me :D
beautiful!
"Fu**... Fu**.. oh damn.
This is my short story.
Castanets.
Dancers did a marvelous job; beautifully done! The musicians did an equally impressive interpretaion of the Vivaldi...bravo!
Breathless. Stunning. Just during my lunchbreak.
bon appetit!
Maravilloso.
I am astonished that there are actually people who have registered a dislike for this! Once again I om in awe of the musicality and professionalism of the musicians and especially the dancers on this video - definately one of my favourites!
Art is polarizing....
Beautiful music from the red priest❤
Belleza absoluta.
Grazie.
Beautiful music and amazingly talented dancers. More of them, please!
Thank you! Will do!
Fantastic music with the charming dancing .
Imagine this live right there, awesome
this makes me believe in time travel!
marvellous, both musicians and dancers. thank you.
He is very good at the castanets!
one of the best musical performances I've seen on TH-cam!
Fantastic performance -- sublime music, elegant and admirable in every respect
¡¡¡Extraordinario!!!
That's just AMAZING! Please, continue performing these masterpieces! Congratulations from Brazil
We will continue!
The sound of Spinet is simply most glorious!
Amazing performance. Thank you very much!!!
Weirdly beautiful! was totally fascinated by the dancers - wow... never seen flamenco like this! An absolutely brilliant performance by all.
This is not Flamenco, not even close, so it is only natural you've never seen flamenco like this, because this has little to nothing to do with flamenco.
Interpretazione eccellente... Vivaldi, il mio preferito! ♥️🥰🤩
I love this instrumental. I always inspires me.
göttliche Musik....Danke für´s Hochladen
I was able to see them in Hartford CT, beautiful performance and the vestuario is fabulous, Very happy to find this video

Grazie.
Wonderfull...Superbe Maravhlioso.....bellissimo
Bravo! la Folia dance of Spain.
Folias are from Spain and Portugal originally. Which is why they always sound so Spanish regardless.
In fact, during the Baroque and Renaissance period Spain and Portugal were the most powerful countries on Earth. So the Iberian influence on the era is clear. Hence the name Baroque, which is a Portuguese/Spanish word.
Hermoso su arte. Muy emotivo.
A most passionate and beautiful dance. Their masks would fit in quite well during the rule of Coronavirus. Love it!
An important message for me.
I remember this La Follia song when I'm sad or when I'm happy and cheerful!
Enjoyable and fun to watch. Love the story that was unfolding through dance and music. You don't see that everyday!
4:56 that fan snap was so fierce gurl

Estupendo espectaculo
Most excellent
That was amazing. Truly amazing.
Your music is wonderful, I listen you everyday 🙂🙂🎻
BRAVO! BRAVO! BRAVO! LINDO!!
Stunning!
excelente.
Pure European elegance at its finest.
Muhteşem dinledikle çok güzel oluyorum. İşte bu sanat... Doğmak ve ölmek gibi
You are the best baroque musicians group ever I saw and I believe that you will be best forever 🎉🎉🙂🙂🎻🎵
ahhhhhh❤❤❤
