    Both Bolens books were an eye-opener to me, and I agree that we should honor diversity amongst women.

    IS there a trickster goddess? As she said, Aphrodite is close, at least, because she has a sense of humor. A sense of humor is a major reason why my wife and I are still married.

    Not exactly a Goddess, but I nominate Baubo. I've heard her described as a "troll" who looked out at the world through her nipples and spoke via her vulva. She told dirty jokes to the Goddesses when they were depressed. She's the one who slipped the seeds of the pomegranate into Persephone's mouth.

    Gloria Steinem's other joke was that if men could menstruate, they would talk about how much and for how long.

    Very good! My only suggestion is that "Goddess" should be plural.

    Interesting that she left out Hecate the fourth member of the Greek virgin goddesses

      There's a fourth?!
      I only thought there were three.
      Hecate...sounds so familiar though... But can't place it.

      Nothing new under the sun, the same thing happened in the ancient world, men tried to take over every aspect of the human experience and became the goddess or the sacred prostitute

    Interesting and important as her work is, as a black, Afro-Caribbean Islamic feminist, I miss intersectionality. She seems to center the experience of the white American, cisgendered middle class woman as THE experience of all women. It's also ironic, in this context, that she only speaks of diversity in the context of different archetypes in women, but not of diversity in religion, ethnicity, skin colour, class/socio-economic position, etc. A missed chance to be REALLY inclusive.

    • @Biiku_
      @Biiku_ 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Which archetypes would you add in? Or how do these archetypes not resonate with your understanding as woman from your perspective?

    • @Biiku_
      @Biiku_ 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      also, I think the lack of diversity stems from the lack of diversity where she practices. Would it be ignorant of me to guess that middle-class white women who are socially accepted to receive psychoanalysis are the only ones who can afford it as a demographic?

      Yes you certainly have put yourself in a lot of boxes; pretty hard to see over that many walls; I can appreciate your confusion however it is you not this lady who has disenfranchised yourself. Shalom

      I don't understand how this excludes anybody who feels like a woman trying to find their voice. I'm not an American woman, I am Irish and I live in Ireland. These Goddesses are found within us, it's in our power to awaken them, so how is anybody excluded?
