Great footage Horst! Depth perception can be tricky. A friend of mine flew his foamie Corsair right into a big oak tree since he thought it was a lot closer than it was.
Thanks Jeff. Sometimes sh*t happens. Most of modellers have been in the same situation. Wrong "measurement" easily can end in a disaster. In this case the damage of the Corsair looks very bad but "only" minor deformations occurred. The plane will be repaired and airborne again in 2016

UNBELIEVABLE !! We are fortunate to see the "real thing" every year at the MAAM WW2 Airshow and some clips in the video; you cannot tell the difference!! WONDERFUL VIDEO :)

I crawled in that beautiful bomber at the air museum in Seattle Washington. At 6’4” you don’t have much room. I was amazed it was not as big as I thought.
No.Not good memories for Germans. The US and Britain's civilian bombing strategy was a war crime. At least the Americans tried to hit factories before Dresdin. Germany is one great ally and friend now (and, ironically , Japan.)

Such a shame about the Corsair. As another viewer has commented, depth perception can be very tricky, I recently destroyed a model for this very reason! A thing of nostalgia and beauty, the Fortress. Fantastic footage Horst, as so often - love those close-up ground shots. The sound of 4 Kolms just made it. You could almost blink and think it was the real thing. Great seeing the fighters up with it... plenty of smoke. :) Pity about the Corsair - I think I have landed on corn at least twice! Could have been worse I guess.

Yes. You can enter them from inside the plane. The guns point straight down and the hatch will open to the inside. When I was with the Yankee Air Force I got to fly in the Yankee lady out to Iowa and back for an air show. It was one of the most awesome things I've ever done. I also got to fly in their B-25 and C-47.

Drives me nuts when I see people trying to lift off before they have enough airspeed. It looks so bad. As for the Corsair, radio failure or asleep at the stick?
I noticed in many videos done in Europe the pilots stand in the middle of the runway during takeoffs and landings, its no wonder the corsair pilot crashed into the corn field...you don't see that over here in N. America , its not allowed.
+Steven Daly You're right. We have other rules here in Europe, but this was not the reason of crashing the Corsair. He just miscalculated the distance and altitude of the plane. Nothing more, nothing less.
What troubles me is that the Corsair pilot was standing right in front of the beginning of the runway which, for one, is very dangerous having your plane coming almost right at you and second from that point of view he could not see where the ground was, having to look up at the plane, therefore could not see ahead/below where the plane was heading so it doesn't surprise me that it ended up in the corn field. Is he a new pilot? Cause he looks like to be very inexperienced, maybe he should fly easier /cheaper planes and practice those landings first :P Btw great video, loved the B-17!

Leider musste ich schon ansehen wie eine B17 als Fesselflieger durch gegenwind zu fall gebracht wurde. Frage an RC Scale. Wird Fesselflug eigentlich noch betrieben? Oder ist es gar ein Ostdeutschen Phänomen?

Because aerodynamics and gravity function the same for an RC plane as they do a real plane.
they're war planes, they have a very high stall speed. they don't glide well at all. this is why they say don't make a warbird your first plane.

+MoSs TThe position of the pilot was not particularly well chosen. The two pilots in the previous landings were in the same place, but this was not the reason of crashing the Corsair. He just miscalculated the distance and altitude of the plane. Nothing more, nothing less.
No, he's not a newbie and he is able to make mistakes like you and me :)

Leider musste ich schon ansehen wie eine B17 als Fesselflieger durch gegenwind zu fall gebracht wurde. Frage an RC Scale. Wird Fesselflug eigentlich noch betrieben? Oder ist es gar ein Ostdeutschen Phänomen?
+Toreus1 Es gibt noch ein paar Modellflieger, die den Fesselflug beherrschen und auch öfters fliegen.
