  • Trevor finally got fed up with his 285/70's rubbing on his body cab mount. Or should I say he finally convinced me to take care of that pesky problem.
    Metal Tech 2014+ 4Runner Body Mount Chop Kit is super straight forward and completely DIY, as long as you are familiar with minor fabrication work.
    Some metal cutting, some welding, some grinding and bingo you are done.

      Trevor’s rock sliders on the 4Runner are actually Victory 4x4 and he hates them. They flex too much and won’t hold up to a big hit.

    The solution is for Toyota to get their heads out of their a**es and stop advertising vehicles as "off road" and you can't even put 33's on it.

    • @AdventureBuilt
      @AdventureBuilt  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well technically it can go off-road and does fairly well. Of course you are correct, the ground clearance is horrible.

    • @AdventureBuilt

      Hunter Aleman thank you very much. We try to get it all in there. We have the outside a really good coating of paint. Obviously the inside is bare metal but it’s completely welded so there shouldn’t be any way moisture can get in there. Cheers.

    Was the angle of this cut correct? I feel like the angle was supposed to take more material off the FWD side of the mount as opposed to the side?

    • @AdventureBuilt
      @AdventureBuilt  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I assure you we took off as much material as we could to still be able to get the inner bushing back in. It works perfect with the 33” tires.

    • @RadioReprised
      @RadioReprised 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes it will and at an angle that gives more clearance than this....and you don't need to weld a ''cap'' on it as the piece is high strength steel that is more than strong enough to support the cab. The reason this mount is long is it is there for wheel intrusion in a crash to meet crash tests. Cut it with a sawzall at a angle like the tire makes as it swings through it's arc, hit it with black primer and walk away. Took me 20 minutes per side and no removal of mounts because there's minimal heat with the saw.

    Why not just get rid of the spacers?

    • @AdventureBuilt
      @AdventureBuilt  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The spacers on the body mount. Then your body will sag where you removed the spacer. Your cab is being held onto the frame evenly with the body mounts and those rubber spacers are there to absorb shock from the frame to the body.

    • @static_skill8162

    • @AdventureBuilt
      @AdventureBuilt  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@static_skill8162 Gotcha. Trevor needs the wheel spacers in to keep the wheel from rubbing the UCA. He got new method wheels and they still would have rubbed. The front cab mount is completely in the way of the wheel travel on any side 33" or larger. Its a terrible design.

    For someone who does not have welding experience is it really necessary to add that piece of medal to close up the cut? Or will the bushing be fine if left exposed?

    • @AdventureBuilt

      Structurally yea you have to add the metal back after the cut. There isn’t enough support in the bracket with a huge hole in it.

    As a welder. little tack stitch welds never look good anyway. I know Im gonna get called out for being an internet expert😂 but wouldnt it have been better to jack the body up to separate the chassis and mount. avoid all the time consuming cooling

    • @AdventureBuilt
      @AdventureBuilt  4 ปีที่แล้ว
