Well Seal Teams use them so that blade would have to do quite a bit in the field for them to utilize them. I carry same knife now for EDC, but I am on the tall side at 6`5"... I carry 2 EDC`s knives, pocket Microtech and belt Winkler anyway, along with a SS P365 XL comp... The old rule... “It's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.” Like the wood grips but I have sculpted micarta on mine.... The knife can do a lot more than you think, carry it for 3 years and find out. Good review visually.
I'm about to get a Winkler Forest edge and it will be my 4th Winkler. I've had the Blue Ridge, Standard Duty 2 and the Huntsman. The fit and finish of them are 2nd to NONE. Someday I'll try one of the hatchets
If you want an edc from him check out one of the "Standard Duty" knives or maybe Blue Ridge Hunter. The Blue Ridge is around the size of that spyderco, but it's still a thick boy
I wish I had an extra BGM Knife I could send you, that's one you need to handle/use. I prefer his hollow grinds, and the edges are super slicey. These Winklers look very cool, too bad I'm not in the market for any more fixed blades right now. Thanks for sharing.
Great review, I really didn’t think is was that big, but it’s a nice knife. I might have to get the next size down for EDC and this one for backpacking and camping. Sheath is next level, inside is suppose to be felt, and it retains up top to minimize blade scraping and scratching. The whole set up is gorgeous and I love it. I paid 390.00 for that knife, and that on the higher end for non tomahawk and hatchets which winkler also makes and does amazing work on. These knives and tomahawk’s were in the Chris Pratt movie terminal list. Winkler is known for making knives and tomahawk’s for Special Operations Forces.
I grew up in the small town in Western NC where Daniel Winkler is based...He was an early American reenactor & in the '80s & '90s (before Last of the Mohicans) he sold & made knives at local craft fairs etc...I would dress up in my best Daniel Boone gear just to visit his booth & drool over his hatchets & knives...U should check out "Primitive Woodsman" if u haven't....Another maker from the NC High Country
I've seen these before and thought I'd like to own one for day hikes. Never knew what the blade steel was, some other TH-cam channels have been ragging on 80CRV2, but I'm good with it. Good video. Thanks
I love it. Winklers are phenomenal. I have the belt knife version. I want to get the daily carry EDC one next.
I was looking at that one, looks awesome
Looking through their site, this company has got it goin' ON with the fixed blades!
Thanks, Dood!
If possible. Id love to see you do the viper handy or if anybody knows about vipers heat treat that would be cool
The viper handy is a sweet knife . Good call . There’s so many good knives out there right now imo .
looks like it can get the job done- love the handle
My Winkler Crusher Belt knife with rubber grip, is my best blade!
Pretty sure its felted kydex internally with a leather outer. One of the best sheaths on the production market.

I’ve never tried this still so I have no opinion. But I guess I’ll find out when I do the cut test!
Love my Winkler knives. The smaller EDC version is the SD-1. I have one if you would like to check it out. I’m happy to send it over.
Send it on over! I’d love to check it out. Hit me up on IG
You need the SD1 or SD2 ,the standard duty is smaller.
The smaller one is the blue ridge hunter. A great knife also.
Heavy Doody
Absolutely
The Blue Ridge Hunter is a shrunken down version of that knife pretty much
Sounds like that one would be perfect for me
OK , Little Jelly Now !
Welcome to the Fixed Blade Rabbit Hole!!!
That is suck a BADASS KNIFE!!!!!
the Crusher is a lot. but far from Bushcraft Knife.
If I had to, I could easily sell off my other knives and keep just my Winkers (my Chris Reeve knives would be AWFULLY hard to part with, though).
