The EA888 has been a stalwart for VW. It's all over VW and Audi. The CCTA variant had a Miller designed Valve system the restricted power to 184hp. This engine in the GTI makes 241, the GLI 228, the Arteon 268, the Atlas 254, the Golf R 314hp. It's into it's 5th modification. Shame on vw. Tbe tiguan I had was an R and with a map reroute ran 252 downpipe. It was a true pocket rocket. The last small Golf based 2017.
I’m looking forward to seeing it in person. It seems that VW is going back to their modern roots a bit, offering a bit more premium vehicle for the segment. Will the U.S. get a hybrid version?
Volkswagen needs to ditch those climate controls and use physical buttons/dials. Other than that, I like this look although I'm skeptical of the long-term reliability.
Ive had 3 new VWs in a row back to back. 2019 jetta with physical buttons, never a issue in 160,000km. 2023 golf r, had it for 4 months and it was in the shop 4 times for various touch button related things, now a 2024 tiguan. A mix of the jettas interior, but it has touch buttons for climate. Can you guess which buttons have given me trouble in the past year on this Tiguan?? Lmao.
I'm quite excited about this new Tiguan. I've been holding out for a while so hopefully this arrives quick! The wood trim is the kind of upgrade that puts this a step above the rest in my books.
The more powerful engine is a plus - but a very small one. 200ish horsepower from a turbo two-liter is weak. This should have more like 220-230 horsepower.
Thank god they made that armrest adjustable again. My wife’s current gen Tiguan lacks that feature. Also glad they have returned to REAL BUTTONS on the steering wheel.
Great review of a great car that will sell well in the US. My wife and I plan to buy one next summer. It needs a plug in hybrid engine. It is great that VW is returning to quality design and value.
It looks a lot better than I thought - when I learned the TIguan was basically going to be a rebadged Tayron I compared it to what Volkswagen calls a Tiguan in Europe and thought we were getting an inferior model because Europe’s Tiguan is also very nice looking. Nevertheless, they’ve done something to North America’s version and it’s very nice.
They did a great job. This is how you compete. This is how you put in real effort If a brands not going to put any effort in a new model, that makes their products DOA. VW though knocked it out of the park so this is most certainly not DOA
1:42 " A common complaint was that the engine wasn't powerful enough for the North American market " How is that ? In the States you can't go fast at all and in general much slower than in Europe. For what purpose was power missing ?
I'm not sure what you mean? There are plenty of 140 km/h speed limit areas in N. America and millions of km of roadways that are practically deserted. Also: it's a cultural norm.
@@AAutoBuyersGuide I think that the previous Tiguan generation had no problem reaching 140km/h easily since it's max. speed was beyond 200km/h. Acceleration was also quite sufficient, especially since basically nobody ever used the two seats in the very back. So I was wondering what exactly made the car feel underpowered.
I have a '19 and definitely prefer the simple, boxier look of it to the rounded/curvier design here... Not a fan of the light up logo either. The interior is nice and I get that larger tacked on infotainment screens are common, but I love that mine is embedded. I don't care if it's smaller. It's big enough. Also, it's interesting that they shortened it, putting it closer to competitors and their own Taos. I guess the upscaling is part of the value proposition.
I get why people call it the discount Audi but I get the feeling that VW is also trying to make the VW its own thing, thus the huge redesign to me it looks more like the VW beetle with id.4 mixed in, it so much more rounded than usual.
I’m on my 2nd Tiguan (2019 SE 4Motion, 2024 SE R Line Black 4Motion) some of the upgrades to the 2025 look great, but I would like to see what the SE trim level offers. The new wheels look awful on the vehicle in the video.
Forester Hybrid vs this will be interesting. Forester known: nice NVH, Toyota's Hybrid, Uncertainty: weak suspension joints, center console, acceleration, power delivery, price of the vehicle and maintenance.
Nice to see that VW learned some lessons... A real volume knob returns and the haptic fake steering wheel buttons are GONE! But the placement of the Engine Start/Stop button is bizarre. That's gonna get pressed by accident all the time.
US market VWs should sever all links with their Chinese market counterparts completely. However, VW may sell the new Tiguan Americana in markets outside North America and China (known there as the Tayron L Pro) namely Europe as the Tauber (named after a river where the German city-town of Rothenburg is located on). The Euro Tiguan could become the second-gen Taos in the US and Canada as compensation. Anyway, American VWs should be resynchronized with the European VWs big time.
Looks nice, but without that 3rd row, why not just buy a Subaru Outback that's probably more capable and has about the same interior, but has Subaru pricing for maintenance and reliability? Not sure if VW really has a good handle on the competition with this move. EDIT: I guess no massaging seats in a Subaru...yet. Still a 2-row SUV, let's see what the MSRP of that top end trim comes out to be.
Honestly with all the features and design, i don’t see point of getting an Audi besides the engine. The screen FOR ME is way too big and not flush with the dash. 12inch screen is more than enough
The wood trim is nice but its non functional. The big mistake is the recline on the rear seat. Its also missing the rear shades, but my biggest disappointment if the thigh support. At 6'4, its something that is of paramount to have for me. I also noticed no lining in the door pockets. I hope this is just a production model. Since those features are what swayed me to the car in the first place.
Wow, I’d written off VW from my horrible experience with a 2000 Golf GS. I just might take a look again. Yeah, watched more and unimpressed with rear seats. No recline and cheap plastic surfaces. I’d rather keep my Ford Edge. Far nicer and 250hp 4 cyl dual turbo. Costs about the same too.
The interior looks great, but the exterior looks bland and just like any number of the many Asian SUV's and CUV's. (I know its a subjective matter of taste, but the sharp-edged angular lines of the previous generation to me looked good and gave VW a nice brand identity..)
I think it’s gotten uglier, it definitely caters to the Chinese market and loses the brawn of the outgoing model. That 15” is nice, but it just looks taped onto the dash, that chrome border makes it stand out more as well…
32k u can get last year model Y .. this days is about the most car u can get for the money.. vw not great in reliability and definitely not cheap maintenance..
It wasn't just Volkswagen... which world are you in? vw,jeep, bmw, ford, mercedes, mitshbshi etc many brands cheated the emissions tests...And now Toyota is cheating on crash tests.
This looks to have one of the nicest interiors in the segment now, real wood is an awesome touch!
@@pine111 I think only VW and Mazda have real wood trim in this segment
Massaging seats in this segment is SHOCKING, quite impressed ngl
And proper massaging seats at that. My VW ID.4 technically has massaging seats, but it uses air bladders vs the kneading that this Tiguan has.
Yea wtf my X5 doesn’t even have that
The Mitsubishi Outlander actually has them too! It's still missing ventilated seats though

I’m positive about long term reliability.
It’ll be positively bad 😅
@@tjf7101 That good old classic German overengineering!

If you're preference is long-term reliability the buy Japanese, not German. nobody buys German cars for their dependability.
1:40 Just huge wheel arches 😮
Massive improvement. Finally Volkswagen, you pulled your head out of your rear.
Between this and the Atlas - VW is doing good things.
The Atlas was designed and built for the U.S. market. The Tiguan is their best seller.
I'm quite excited about this new Tiguan. I've been holding out for a while so hopefully this arrives quick! The wood trim is the kind of upgrade that puts this a step above the rest in my books.

This is the replacement for Europes Tiguan Allspace, which was our markets Tiguan. In Europe it is known as the Tayron.
Not quite. They made a few adjustments. The Tayron is slightly longer. Exterior styling is also slightly different.
I would love to have the euro specs
Looks good but any word on the volkswagen ID 7 coming to USA?
Being in a segment tightly fought, I think Nissan and VW are losing by not having a Hybrid option in thier Rogue and Tiguan line-up.
It depends on the cost difference and mileage difference.
Wondering what the ‘25 Audi Q3 will look like and have now.
bots out in force today!

I drive a 2021 Tiguan sel r line premium and while the engine is fine, I can see how it would be under powered if you are lugging around kids, etc

You’ve clearly never driven on an American highway. It’s all about getting up to speed quickly so you don’t get run over by a semi truck
In the USA, the Tiguan was on the slow side of the segment.
The gigantic tablet is a deal breaker for me. It's RIDICULOUS.

Can they make it reliable?
It is very reliable. I own one for 6 years now no problem with it.
When Volkswagen introduced the 2011 Jetta and started decontenting their cars, I stopped buying their cars. I’m liking this. I may be back.
Sedans are a dying breed. I'm surprised the Jetta is still around. My guess is because of the Civic and Corolla.
Car & Driver says the Tiguan is gaining an inch (in both length and wheelbase) instead of losing two.
I want to see the other 13 inch screen looks at 15 inch screen is entirely too large
needs more pawr!
Thank VW for selling the Tiguan R overseas and not bringing it to America. And now it’s discontinued.
It'd have been on my list if it was a hybrid.
The hybrid is coming but won't be til 2026 or 2027. It's a 268 HP hybrid with 60 miles of all electric. It's what they have in Europe right now.

It’s very nice, but for this top of the line SUV, in Canada? $60k!
Is it basically a VW Tayron?
Basically.
I hope it looks just as stylish and upscale at lower trims. VW has a habit of really punishing consumers at lower trims.
Very true. Good point.
You said horse power 201 but the letter says 2011
Wv make the lesson and fix the car on each segment.

wish it was 225 hp, wheels look tiny in those wells
My grand piano (finished in shiny “piano black”) scratches when you look at it wrong. Why do automakers continue to slather cars with this stuff?!
No hybrid, no sale.
Ok, now the Tiguan looks more competitive with Hyundai and Kia in terms of visual appeal. Much less bland.

Or Audi = Expensive Tiguan?
Looks way smaller then the current gen.
The last Tiguan looked like it was assembled with play-doh
now it really looks like vw is part of audi!!!! way to go in getting rid of that outdated backend!!!
Hopefully they fixed that awful Start/stop system-- we traded ours in because wife absolutely hated how jerky the on/off was.
There is a button to turn that off you know
Oh goody. We get the Chinese version.

honda will rip off the styling for the next generation cr-v

Don't worry, once the engine in this car hits 100K, you have to buy another one lol.
Audi interiors are renowned for being piano black crap. So you're saying this interior is crap too?
Diesel Gate. Don’t buy a VW.
