@@anjeloambi6425 What ??? They were supposed to just accept all the atrocities that the british and the other invaders were dealing out, quietly? And say "yes sir, no sir, thank you, sir". Nope, the chinese should never be "pissed off" even after decades of being "trampled" in their own land, but the occupying foreigners had the right to be "pissed off".
And how many Chinese officials have they killed too ? I guess chinese names are not worth remembering, but one english ambassador need to be recorded in history books.

Wow imperial Chinese architecture is exquisite and other-wordly. I love how Buddhist and Daoist philosophy is integrated into the designs, as it gives each space additional meaning. A person not just exists in the space but relates to it on a spiritual level.

Trust it is the new way to travel for combining f2f and virtual experiences when the new normal comes post covid. About 20 years ago CCTV made a documentary about the history of the Old Summer Palace, I played Lord Elgin, the leader of the expedition that burned many of the buildings in 1860. Now there are not many buildings left but it is still a beautiful park, people go there for a spot of boating or to find a quiet place and do taiji. I always like to remind people that when Elgin burned it down it was the private property of the Emperor and common people were definitely not allowed in there.

    I can't tell and you wouldn't say,
    but deep in my heart,
    I shall never forget!
    that my country's premium
is now in the British Museum
    and our ancestral treasure trove
is relocated to Musée du Louvre
    Tears blur my sight,
    at the sun's bright,
    Sadness soaring
    from deep beneath
    Fists clenching:
    I cannot breathe!
'cos looters are still at large,
    without the slightest of guilt,
    harassing, bullying,
    and bending my will!
    Somewhere from afar,
I hear my Indian brother's sobbing.
Well, at least on my own land
    I am still standing!

Interesting I have been to china several times on business. The people I have met have a different view one that is more about reflecting on the past and rebuilding there heritage , physically and spiritually. The look at it as knowing where they are from so they know where to go in the future as there homeland now is part of the global culture and economy. These people refer to china as "The new China" in a attempt to present there culture and country in the light as opposed to the china of the past. Making a comment that reflects your belief and presenting it as the opinion of a nation that is just being narrow minded, unwilling to think or critically think as a independent person. Try thinking as a modern and educated individual in that people around the globe have respect and a interest in Chinese culture. Dwelling on the dark past will only fuel and recycle the hate, this will prevent a culture from moving forward and promoting peace and harmony. @Xiao Han

Are you Chinese, or are you just pretending to be one? If you are Chinese, study your history and be proud of your birth heritage. China is the only country in our world that has a continuous ancient civilizational history for over 5000+ years!!! If you are a foreigner, then also study history. Give up your colonial and imperialist mindset. Yuanmingyuan existed physically and there is no dispute that foreign powers, mainly Britain and France, were involved in it's destruction. This is not "bs", as you say!!! This is what the Chinese refer to as their "century of humiliation" when foreign powers literally divided China into sections like cutting up a pie! This is NOT "a load of bs", as you say!!! Due to high tech, it is so nice that they have been able to show the beauty of the Palace, which unfortunately we, humans from all over the world, are unable to physically witness now because it was brutally destroyed!!!
