Story 1, i was like ma'am no i maybe a sympathetic person but I'm not stupid enough to let some shit slide like that, even if the friend had cancer that should have been nipped in the bud then, because in my honest opinion that mofo was testing, the waters to see how much he could get away with then, And honestly op should not trust his behind what so ever, especially she was/is stuck with him, seriously at least op listening to a lawyer now, and yeah i agree op needs to get a second opinion from another lawyer, and if she can she needs to get help from her other kid etc to help dig through the office with her.
