Finish looks great in the thumbnail

Thanks a lot! I'm not 100% happy with it, you'll see how I was struggling with it in the video.
Usually the Tru-Oil will make the colors even more vibrant, but I was able to take this picture in a very good light even when it was dry already.
This is pretty much the colors I've seen in person when I was staining it and it was still wet. This is always a good indicator how it will look like when a clear coat has been applied.
I'm always amazed how these water based stains I'm using change colors depending on the light, though.
I've also attached pictures of the guitar in sunlight in the end of the video as well and you'll see how they get extremely flashy,
and that's not due to the camera, that's how it actually looks like in person as well.
      Cheers,
      Martin

Looks pretty cool Martin, I'm sure your daughter was happy with the result. Your quick, that would have been at least a 3 day endeavor for me. Looking forward to the journey. 👍

Thanks Rifff! I'm sitting at 21h of work on both guitars currently. Without that grain filler, I would have certainly had 15h less work. I didn't face this with the first kit I bought from them.

I've read that applying a sealer prior to staining will assure the wood more evenly takes the stain.
Really Cool, your Daughter is gonna love it.
Right now I'm making two (2) guitars for my Son, I find building guitar is so very satisfying.
    Thank You for sharing

Thanks, I do my very best, so she has a reason to. :)
I don't see how grain filler would have that effect with water-based stains. Those work in the way that the wood fibers are soaking up the stained water and the pigments stay there once the water is evaporated. If these fibers are covered in plastic, which is what most grain fillers are, then the stain can't be absorbed by them. That's exactly what I'm experiencing here. What you said certainly applies for paint and lacquer, maybe for some other kind of stain but not water-based ones. I'm sure your son will also cherish the guitars you're building for him. I agree, building guitars is extremely satisfying. I just wish there wouldn't be that grain filler/sanding sealer on these kits. They easily cost me an additional 15h of work with the methods I'm using, and I will have to figure something out for the sides as they are not taking the stain at all and the grain pattern there is in a way that it really got deep in the wood. There's no way I can sand there enough...
      Cheers,
      Martin

@@LMGuitarCorner Imagree with you 100% about how stain works, I’ll try and find the source that states that and forward it back to you, as well as do a little more research myself.
As for the body/finish issues you’re dealing with, that really is the result of the manufacturer of the kit being less than careful with glue and sealer clean up. To date I’ve had all my guitar bodies professionally finished, however I do have a Strat I’m building that I plan to finish myself. I’ve only worked with solid body guitars that don’t have the glue up issues a more complete semi-hollow body guitar has.
Have you ever considered one of “Precision Guitar Kits” build? They are amazing and typically of same or better quality than a Gibson USA instrument! Over the years I’ve had to rebuild guitar kits that friends have attempted to assemble. My biggest issue with the less expensive kit guitars has been the frets and poor fret installation. I personally can’t see spending all that valuable time on a kit guitar that’s weakest link are the frets (IMHO). I’ve seen frets lift after only a couple years of use, very frustrating for sure.
      Thanks again for the content.

You're welcome. I try to show everything as good as possible, including all the struggles. I might consider them in the future. I don't really care for the frets on these guitars either, as I'm going to send the guitars to Thomann to do the stainless steel Plek job. But yeah, the frets are the major letdown on these kits. I managed to get dents in the first one after just one year.

Vielen Dank Micha!
